  • It is a good idea to adjust your shocks to match your weight and cargo. If you have a passenger, you may want to stiffen the suspension to compensate for the added weight.

    I've been riding my 05 for 2 years and never thought about shock adjustment. I'm 190 and felt the bumps. Why? I was at 2! Thanks for this. Ordered the tool and will adjust

    Funny! Literally, just 15 minutes before seeing this video, I adjusted the pre-load on the rear shocks of my Rebel. Thanks for the confirmation!

      Just out of curiosity, where did you get the information for shock setting vs. weight (setting 1 for 100# and add 50# per setting)? I can't find any reference to that in my owner's/service manuals. Thanks!

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ha! Glad you found the video. I read about it on the Honda Rebel Forum. Lots of people on there that have owned and worked on Rebels for years.

      @jaimeskiebel 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheFixitShed I read it there, also, but I have yet to find an actual official source for this info. It's not an issue, though. I generally set shock pre-load to what feels best to me given the load I'm carrying. I was just curious what Honda's take on it was. I'll let you know if I find anything in my weekly browsings.

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly. I looked and found what you found. Not much. This seemed like a reasonable starting point and people could adjust to their taste.

      You're welcome! My dad told me (40 years ago) that the Honda tool kit has every tool you need. I don't know if that is true, but the shock adjuster tool sure is handy.

    Thanks, just picked up a Honda Reflex scooter, and need to put a little more preload on the rear, and it has the same setup. Although it seems obvious how to do it, I didn't even think to look in the supplied toolbag for a tool that would do the job. And the other thing was, soon as I seen you do the first click, my thought was, that isn't gonna go back the same way it tightened, but then you showed how to go all the way to release all preload. Probably do this tomorrow, thanks.

      @TheFixitShed  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, if you are going to have a lot of gear (extra weight), you want to bump them up a bit, otherwise they are going to bottom out if you hit a big pothole or someting.

    My right hand side rear shock is too tight to be adjusted to different levels (only a few levels can be adjusted). Because of lack of oiling to that part of moving around or what? Have you experienced it before??? How to maintain it better to be adjustable smoothly to all levels from Low 1-2-3-4-5- High? Thank you for your video of solution 🙏

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not seen that before. I am not sure what might be binding up. You may want to try spraying with a penetrating oil like WD-40, to see if things will loosen up.

    Hey, the screw and nut fell out of my clutch lever. I was curious if the screw was specific or if I can mix and match ? If I need a specific screw how can I find it ?
    Thanks for the help your videos are very informative as I just bought a very used Honda rebel that still runs just needs work

    • @TheFixitShed
      @TheFixitShed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would use the correct ones. The bolt looks pretty specialized. It has a pretty long shoulder for the lever to pivot on. Check out partzilla.com. The ones for my bike would be about $9 plus shipping for the bolt and the nut.

    Could you possibly do a video on the stator and rectifier? How to test and make sure they work for the rebel.
    I'm having issues with a rebel and plan on replacing them but the stator/rectifier I bought online look like slightly different wiring then what I'm seeing on the inside.
    If you could open and showcase yours I would really appreciate it. can't find a video for those pieces on this specific bike

    • @TheFixitShed

      I am not an expert in this area. Have you looked into the Honda Rebel Forum? I just did a quick search and this (www.hondarebelforum.com/threads/am-i-looking-at-a-bad-voltage-regulator.7947/#post-84480) thread looks promising. I am a member there and find it to be super useful and the people are exceptionally helpful. I may do a video based on your request, but it will take some research and learning on my part, so it may not be very timely. In the mean time, the Forum may be able to help you out.

      If you tap the bulb with the HB switch on, does HB come on? I had a similar thing happen with car headlights, and I just needed to replace the bulb. th-cam.com/video/viG8n_gHNIE/w-d-xo.html

    is 6,0 to talk for a honda rebel i’m picking one up soon but getting kinda worried im only 120 pounds so im not worried about being to heavy on it but i feel like im gonna look like a dork on it lol

      What is important is that you feel comfortable on it. You could fet a crash bar with highway pegs to allow you to stretch out a bit on longer rides, and you can adjust the handle bars so that your arms are in a comfotable position. I have heard of taller riders riding Rebels without issue.

      I really don't know. I looked it up on partzilla, but it doesn't tell you the size, and my wrench doesn't have anything printed on it. I would just look it up by year, make and model of the bike.

      Looks like you can get the set on partzill.com for about $70. Maybe you can find it on ebay for less.
