This band has released a lot of good albums over the years, but there’s something about Bless The Martyr that had pure aggression to it. Josh’s vocals on the album were absolutely just chaotic and raw.
most bands only have one good idea, and there's nothing wrong with that -- Norma Jean was a unique band in a sea of talentless christcore bands from back then (I know because I was there, and played in some) IIRC, they recorded the album live to tape, and that's why it sounds so raw

Thank you so much for posting this. I'm justin, the kid singing. This was a dream come true and ultimately lead to my music career. As I'm approaching 40 yrs old I thought this would have only been a memory. Much appreciation!
This album was my intro to metalcore. I'm sure I'll get 1000 responses saying this album/band isn't metalcore, but I don't care. It was something I hadn't heard before and it frickin blew my mind. Ahhh, the good 'ol days. And this must have been not long after Josh left. And to that, I note...how bout a Norma Jean tour with the Chariot? Please? Pleeeeeeease?!?!?
I've seen a few videos of the "replacement" singers they used after Josh and the only one that still stands out is the skinny guy who was in the Hellfest 2003 video. He might be the worst singer I've ever heard until I saw footage of Rick ta Life singing. But then again there's also Roger Miret lol. He gets a pass though
@@creekandseminole but that hellfest 03 footage was fucking fire though. That singer was throwing himself all over the place but he sounded like trash. Oh well the crowd loved it.

I was at this show. Before playing their first song, Norma Jean said they didn’t have a lead singer on tour with them, the crowd seemed bummed, some guy up front literally yelled out “I know all the words!”, they had him do 1 song, he killed it, the crowd cheered, and he sang the rest of the set with them. Makes sense bc he seemed out of breath, but it totally made the vibe of the show awesome. Cool to see this again!
I shot this almost 20 years ago, jesus.
Thank you for filming this.

SHOTGUN MESSAGE. Never really recaptured what made Bless the Martyr so fun. But we still get these. and Memphis!

It blows my mind how good a drummer Daniel Davidson is. Also is this the singer that was with NJ between Josh & Cory?
I think his name was brad. And then Aaron Weiss was in the band for a while
