I found a cool little thing involving a tool (kind of). During KK's show, the villagers now hold a lightstick. If you hold a coloured lightstick, change the colour and then start the show, the villagers' lightsticks will match yours
I remember giving my villagers a net because around about the beginning/before 2.0 it was rumored making them things or giving them tools, like a net, would up the friendship. They ended up putting it in their house, on display, ruining furniture... so I'm really happy this is a thing now!
This has been in the game for awhile but I think they increased the chances of them actually using them, possibly also increasing the chances of villagers wearing hats and glasses you give them too. This is probably a no brainer but you can also give them flimsy tools which look perfect on lazy villagers.
It all depends on who your villagers are. With a number of lazy villagers this could work, though for others, there are better choices. For Stitches (my resident lazy for a long time), I'd be going for the Colorful tools instead.
i'd heard if you gifted your villagers golden watering cans, if they water black roses they could help spawn gold roses, but i'm not sure if that's actually true.
We just started playing AC about 2 weeks ago, my daughter visited a friend's island, planted every color of rose, beside gold ones. Next, I watered the roses on my island, no gold, visited her island, and watered her roses. Next day she had a gold rose. Not sure if this is just luck, but hopefully this helps.
It is true 🤣 especially if the villager prefers the color black, they will often choose to hang around black flowers. I learned this bc I accidentally gave Raymond (who likes black) a gold watering can 🤣
Oddly enough, I already discovered this feature somewhere within my first few months of having this game (I started playing it on April 2, 2020), and I've taken advantage of this. I like how Rodney looks holding a purple colorful net and fishing rod since it fits with his colors. They also fit Sylvana with her Sakura theme.
You can also gift your villagers a gold watering can and if they water a black rose, it will still get flagged within the game to spawn a gold rose. If you want more gold roses without much work, just plant black roses near their home or around the plaza. Villagers will water them with their new gold can and you'll start to see fresh gold roses without having to lift a finger.
Some villagers don't use umbrellas and just wear a raincoat and hat so I tried to give a villager a nicer raincoat once but they would only wear it as regular clothes and then swapped back to their default raincoat when it was raining. I could've sworn I'd also tried umbrellas and they didn't change it, but that was forever ago not long after release of the game so either I remember wrong or it changed with one of the updates. Because of this, though, I kind of assumed it wouldn't work with tools either but this is awesome to know!
I know you can occasionally see a villager actually doing something like watering flowers or something like that. However 95% of the time they wander around like zombies. You'll see them trying to walk through walls, you'll see them try to walk through each other, really weird stuff. Inside their own home they walk back and forth back and forth sticking their nose on the wall sticking their nose on the window back and forth. Zombies!
I'm talking about sleeping, why is it all the beds are made of concrete. Your character goes to bed and flops down on this hard, uncomfortable looking, bed. No covers usually not even on the pillow. No wonder the villagers fall asleep standing up! Lol
i started doing this a couple months after release! all my villagers get star nets, elephant watering cans, and colorful fishing rods in their favorite colors.
This is honestly the BEST cute little customization hack I have seen. I will absolutely be using all my resources to get all my villagers personalized tools
Cool idea Bob's gang giving tools! I'd never waste a hunk of gold on a villager. I've given umbrellas and clothes and furniture and foods and they love if you give them a gyroid. Customize it to match their house and they do display the gyroids.

I’ve been doing this for a while. It’s a shame they still can’t use ALL the tools though. I noticed you gifted the wetsuit there at the end & I’ve done the same but they won’t wear it. I also wish they could wear pants/skirts, shoes & masks that are gifted to them & use handbags and backpacks. It’s odd that only certain items are worn.
I knew this too but on accident soo in the late beginning of the game i gave hippeux an elephant watering can and he used it! He also placed it in his house but u can delete it but its still cool!
I've known about this for ages now, I gifted Punchy a normal net in blue and I often see him using it outside - sometimes he even has it on display in his house which is really cool. Yes, this isn't very well known so it's great that you've brought it to our attention because it's really cool to be honest, imagine Chadder equipping his 24 karat gold net even!
I don't like gifting them anything much other than fruits. I hate how Nintendo made it that if you give them something you'd like to change you cant and that whatever you give them gets displayed in their house...
@@malicahamilton But when we do and remove the item from being displayed do they still have that item as a gift? I just don't like the displaying of it, and would like the freedom to ask them to stop wearing certain things if you want to change it up.
@@MarkUnique In my perfect world there would be a menu to go in and remove whatever from their house and interchange their outfits out of their inventory like when we open our own wardrobe. I don't want total control over them just the option to easily remove things from their wardrobe and whenever we gift them clothes it never ending up in their house.

Came here from game rant they're sharing this video and they say that our villagers try to catch bugs and fish but they're never successful and I gotta say that's so sad why cant our villagers collect things too can you imagine fishing everyday to catch nothing eventually youd just stop fishing no wonder villagers get depressed and wanna leave the island
How interesting! I always gift new villagers the leaf umbrella and rainbow sweater when they arrive on the island. Considering I'm color coordinating items and clothing for my villagers to match their color scheme, I'll have to test out the custom tool idea! #bobsgang

I discovered this like back in 2020 when I accidentally gave Raymond a gold watering can because I accidentally clicked on the "do you want this?" dialogue option and I didn't wanna be mean and say haha jk. So I gave him the gold watering can. The fun thing about Raymond specifically is that he favors black flowers when he does frolic through them (i assume bc that's one of his preferred colors) so Raymond would often water my black roses with the gold watering can which produced gold roses without me ever touching them at all. 🤣🤣🤣

Could be a possibility but I only see that as a small percentage of happening unless the only flowers on the island are black roses.

Yeah I wish when they fell asleep in their homes, it was in a bed. And I didn't just walk in to find them sleeping completely upright. It's creepy. 😑😑

Many months ago I gave Muffy a star net and she immediately used it and I also gave to two types of umbrellas and she used them
I knew the one about umbrellas. All of my villagers carry around Orange umbrellas. Except for the frog, of course.

I’ve given golden watercans before and it does seem to spread golden roses.

When I started playing I gave them tools just for show, see what happens, they’ll hold fishing nets, bug nets and the flowering cans
