Speaking as the person who wrote the mushroom logs wiki page, that supposed 'optimal layout' you found on reddit is an affront to god and a sin of the highest calibre. Under no circumstances is that the best layout. Out of pure rage, I went and found the post you are referring to, and the explaining comment they left confirmed that there was no secret I was missing that makes this better. It's simply bad. If you are wondering what the actual best layout is, its simply rows of alternating tree, mushroom log, tree, mushroom log, tree, ect. The rows should be vertically spaced by one tile. You also need to add an extra layer of alternating tree, blank space, tree ect... one tile out from any log for maximum efficiency. The trees should be pine for highest profits but oak is only slightly lower. The new mystic trees do give more profits but by the time you get those you will probably have better money making methods anyway. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
Damn, I can't believe I was led astray. For real, thanks for the heads up. It was hard to find concrete numbers on what makes for the best layout, the one I used looks neat at least so theres that. This also means I had a better layout before I demolished it in year 2. Woopsies.
@@DPadGamer haha at least now you know. Btw should you ever attempt this challenge again know that probably the fastest way to complete this challenge in terms of in game time is to pick woodland farm and make summer and fall seeds, getting the ingredients from the naturally generating forage and bat cave. You can also get one from birch tree in the second half of fall for those seeds. rush foraging 5 to increase the rate at which your seeds multiply, and also rush farming 10 by saving all mixed seeds for summer so you can get the talent that makes crops grow 10% faster allowing you to get an extra harvest per season. Keep some rocks on your farm so they slowly spread from there so you can farm them more easily. Then using the mining exp gained from this and the farming level you have, repeatedly hoeing then pickaxeing ground in winter is a net energy gain due to the reduced tool cost and forageables you find from hoeing. Use this to farm food and clay. Food you will need for the insane amount of crops you will harvest in year 2 (also remember seasonal seeds dont need scarecrows) and whatever clay and stone you have should be turned into retaining soil to make your job easier. Then simply farm your entire farm of forageables summer and fall year 2 for a fall year 2 finish without bending the rules one bit! (albeit with a bit of luck required). This route was made in 1.5 and can probably be improved upon but i have not yet got around to that
Ahh, lots of good info. The repeatedly hoeing & pickaxing the ground in winter; I hadn't ever heard it explained like that. I'll have to try that out next time I do a normal-ish playthrough / challenge.
Btw tree seeds are still counted as trees by mushroom logs and you can also plant mushroom logs on top of tree seeds without the tree seeds growing and breaking the logs
Nice challenge! I’m working on my own remix of the hermit challenge: allow warp totems to certain areas but can’t leave them without passing out or warping back. Opens up fishing and caving, just don’t pass out in the cave. Having tent kits allow someone to stay in a place overnight. I picked the beach farm to speed up the process to craft a warp totem for the beach to get fishing and bought bait, soup, and all the rods I could before I left when I passed out from energy. I picked a dog for some good gifts as well. There was a lot of tree chopping but it finally picked up. Also, I hope you figured out you can scythe moss off of the trees.
Im just imagining being a villager in stardew watching this weird hobbit that refuses to leave his farm. Making a weird tree farm and somehow tamed an army of slimes
heard somewhere that if you dont reach fishing lvl1 by the end of year 1 willy will just come to ur farm and go "so.... saw u havent rlly been fishing...." and give u a free fishing level and the training rod. idk if u need to trigger the cutscene at the beach tho
This happened to my friend on our multiplayer farm at the end of spring! I’d never seen that before, but yes he got a free training rod haha, not sure about the level though, I think he had to actually (finally) fish for that. Worth noting is that we had already met Willy so maybe that’s why he got the training rod much earlier than the end of a year- who knows!
One potential thing i noticed that you are missing, is advanced slime breeding, different color slimes actually drop different loot, and because slime babies have a chance to mutate slightly, you can slowly get new colors that you cant even find naturally such as yellow slimes, and they have unique drops as well, for yellow slimes they can drop gold ore, and another useful one would be gray slimes that drop stone, or even brown slimes that can drop hardwood
After spending to much time on the wiki for this challenge I learned you can level up fishing with books and after a while crab pots which can lead to lighting rods without panning!
Great video, I loved the editing and the script kept me invested from start to end. I haven't really checked out 1.6 so all of these new cool ways of being self-sufficient were pretty new to me.
What if you sleep through year one? You can pet your cat or chickens, get eggs, check mail and watch TV, even lay paths to keep exits clear. But basically you get in bed by 7am every day and just sleep past all of year one, and start playing in year two. You'd have a few extra dollars and quests accumulated from the mail. You'd have higher prices at Clint and Robin's. You'd have more seeds available from Pierre. The dialogues for all the events would be different. Maybe you'd start with the quest board by the mayor's house? I'd say you could leave the farm for one day in Winter just to activate the Secret Notes, because that would also be funny to start your game with. Maybe you could also attend the Egg Festival, just because it'd be funny to start your "for real" game with some strawberry seeds! Anyway, the point is to let your farm get overgrown, and do nothing very significant until the start of Year Two, just to see how different it might feel to start the game there. Then maybe see if it is easier or harder to make it to Ginger Island and otherwise progress in the game. How much could you accomplish before Grandpa's return?
Wait one thing i just never understood or maybe the part of the video where it was explained completely flew over my head, was how did he had a pan for panning in the first place? I thought that got unlocked from the community center thing? I never knew it could be a starting tool for the farmer in any of the farms available
Oh no sorry I simply gave it to my character using cheats to make the run a little more interesting. That's what the throwaway line "and this pan I found" was referring to but I should have made it more clear

I have attempted this challenge with the 4 corners and if you use dig spots after summer 1st you can get beach and farm warp totems. You can use wood to repair the bridge and get foragables as well as a rod, I don’t know if this breaks any big rules
I just cheated it onto my character. Thats what the "...and this copper pan I found, it should open some interesting strategies" was referring to when I talked about making my character / farm. I probably should have made that more clear.
well now that it has been done twice this proves to get rich all you have to do is inherit(steal) a farm never leave it and go insane so you can watch the shadow creatures teach you how to build machines to make the finest wines the world has ever seen and trillions upon trillions of mushrooms
By "digging a hole" to his place, I have annexed the blacksmith, therefore its part of my farm. Aka I used a mod to teleport me there and back, meaning I benefited from absolutely nothing else. Also the mystery boxes didn't sway the ultimate gameplan for earning my 1 mil so I think it was okay.
OK I pleased with the final results year 3 is actually really good for Meadowlands farm heck you did better than me I did it on year 4 with my best time fall year2 on 4 corners farm so I'm impressed

Okay these videos are quality! I'm subbing.
