      If I wouldn't have seen this video, I wouldn't have realized I've been doing this unconsciously for ages, and as for the short term consequences... fucking explains everything 😂 (though I don't nap because I don't have the nerve to nap at school, so I have 2-3hrs of sleep a day- I usually am not sleepy at nighttime too because I have insomnia)

      +Mohammed AlMajid ahh that's tough, my brothers doing Med school, that guy only gets 5 hrs of sleep too, sometimes only even 2-3hrs.
      I'm usually a 5 hr sleeper as well considering I'm going for engineering.
      college is Dmn stressful but worth it

      +ANV med student here too... however i can't function on anything below a solid 8 hours of sleep daily.. in 1 go. When i have to sleep less, it affects my concentration and mainly my workouts. I wouldn't ever recommend anything below 8 hours if you workout daily, as that seems to be the thing that suffers the most.

      ANV Thanks! I appreciate the kind words. Yeah, College will sometimes get to you but its all worth it in the end. I've got friends in engineering and they're enjoying every minute of it. As long as what you're doing lights a fire in your belly you'll find a way to excel in it. Good luck to you & your brother.

      Holy Howell I don't go to sleep then around 2.30 pm I take a five hour nap till 7.00 pm and eat dinner (I never eat lunch or break feast) then I stay up to 2.30 pm the next day and rinse and repeat. And I feal fine 😡😠☻👹

So there goes my oppertunity to sleep during the day and when i get home, i have shitloads of home works and readings so i go to bed by 12-1 and wake up at around 6 ...im fucking myself up but apparently that doesnt matter to anyone cause they all think its worth when it certainly not. :(

      Abbey Davis Same for me. I have insomnia so I can try to sleep a long time but I will just wake up in the middle of the night. I usually have to take naps in the middle of the day to get through it. It's a cycle.

      Blitzgang i feel that. I have insomnia and ADHD, but my body won’t take naps. I’m a teen (not disclosing my true age) and I’ve lived most of my life off a solid 4 hours of sleep maximum a night. Plus I don’t stay asleep, I chronically wake up every hour or so.

    you should listen to the doctor on this one. I have autoimmune disease and it has naturally put me into this type of disrupted sleep patterns. After hitting my 40's you would not believe how much of a vicious cycle disrupted sleep has become. At times it can take me 2 days to a week to even form a scab on a small cut. Then it can take up to a month to heal enough for the scab to leave. I know... gross she is talking about scabs but, think about how simple this task is for your body. You leak out some fluid that turns into a scab when injured. I can't even do that right anymore. Ryan that laugh attack was what they call PBA pseudobulbar affect. Fun stuff, your laughter and crying gets all tangled.

    I'd never be able to do that because I can't take naps, once I'm awake I'm awake for the entire day. Plus if I set an alarm for a 20 minute nap I'd probably still be awake by the time it went off cause I'd be stressed about falling asleep in time lol

      This is because you do not pass all of the sleep stages, you wake up when you are supposed to be asleep. same principle when you nap, do it for 30, not longer.

    I’ve been doing something similar. I sleep about 5 hours a day and 9 or 10 hours on the weekends and I haven’t had any bad side affects except at the start. It takes a couple days to get used to it but (as an artist and a TH-cam addict) I’ve done so much more in my day.

      While I don't "brag" about getting little sleep, I still enjoy not sleeping for over 8 hours, simply because I feel like I'm wasting so much time when asleep. Time on earth is limited and I don't know if I would ever look back at myself later and think "I wish I slept more...". I might just be weird but I don't enjoy sleeping as much as a lot of other people do

    I've downgraded to 6 hours of sleep every night (past month) with no naps and seem to be doing fine. It's a bit of struggle to wake up sometimes so I end up spending about 30 minutes doing my morning routine before I leave the house. Was thinking of trying to get down to 4 hours of sleep with two naps, one st lunch and one after work. I definitely don't fee like I'd have as bad of a reaction as this guy. Once I'm up and about I don't get sleepy unless I don't have anything to keep me stimulated and at that point you might as well sleep because there's nothing to do.

    4:54 gave me intense flashbacks to hell week in college, when I would take several short naps at night, then wake up and keep working on my research paper until I couldn't stay awake anymore. The utterly resigned feeling of "so this is happening, I have to be awake again"

      Adriana Anzelino glad you found something that works for you. Meanwhile I find balancing, multiple APs, extracurriculars, college essays, traveling, etc. a bit too much to just prioritize. They're all pretty important to me, I can't just pick and choose :)

    Many nights I got to sleep at around 12:00 or 1:00 and wake up at 5 or 6 for school soooo yea... Yay me?
