That's one of the reasons I think Boardwalk Empire is a masterpiece. It doesn't try to hide behind a veneer of "The good life" organized crime brings. It puts it all on very brutal display. Not only that it covered a point in history I don't think we really see all that much in television. There has been something of an interest in WW1 in recent years (Probably because Hollywood has milked WW2 and later wars for all they're worth) but the civilian life here state-side tends to get left out.

Yeah. Don't tell someone who is not calm, or who is showing signs of agitation, to calm down, just be quiet, or show that you are there to help them. I have had times where I was agitated, and I was visibly and clearly calming myself down, and people knew that I was calming my self down, and some asshammer walked up and said "dude, calm down." Me: "Well I WAS calming down, until YOU DID THAT. SO WHAT'S NEXT?"
In most of these cases they are people who think they have either psychological power over a weak minded person or are confident in the hero's integrity and tolerance.
Yeah that show has its ups and downs but this is definitely one of the high points. Dude massively misread the situation, unlike his compatriot Meyer Lansky.
This compilation misses the most radical moment which is from Death Note: Matt: *gets out of his car with his hands up* "You got me, I'm part of this whole kidnapping incident, that means you got a lot of questions to ask...you won't shoot-" *gets absolutely shredded by everyone on the street*
He also missed the scene from Gundam where Kycilia points a gun at Gihren Zabi's back and he basically just tells her to stop joking around before she blasts a hole through his forehead.
I just realized Mass Effect 3 Citadel literally pulled that scene line by line. You hold a double agent at gun point, she flees and you can shoot her for the line "I never miss" or "not at this range". If you let her go, one of your companions shoots her and does a slight variation.
"What are you gonna do? Shoot me?" The problem with that question, that so many people have overlooked, is that once in a while the answer is going to be "yes."

The biggest failure of that show was that the Daleks were always mooks. At best they were a pitiful underdog that got routinely genocided by the Doctor because they had a horrible habit of not knowing when they were beaten. Yet everytime they're reintroduced they're hyped up as the baddest most dangerous thing since Michael Jordan with an empty ring slot. Pick a lane , writers!

According to police, there's a significant number of tough guys whose last words were "Go on! Shot me!" When people are in a panic and someone is threateningly shouting commands at them, they frequently do as they are told without thinking.
Just for curiosity's sake - what sorts of charges would the perpetrators of those shootings receive? Sure, they committed murder, but they still would have a very good argument that their actions were not fully intentional.

The True Blood scene actually made me chuckle because of how it subverts this trope. All the other victims are essentially saying “you don’t have the guts to shoot me,” meanwhile the vampire is like, “Dude, I can REGENERATE. It is literally pointless to try and shoot me.”
I'm very happy they ended up subverting Guardian Devil and not killing her off like in the comics. Always ticked me off when they did that in the comics, right after Nocenti finally made Karen a worthwhile character Kevin Smith comes in like "You know what would be totally edgy and cool? If we killed her". Ugh.
Ive said in another comment but I hated it. It was great for Karen's character arc but Wesley was shown to be smart and pragmatic up until that point, and even though he had access to Kingpins resources and men, after capturing Karen he just leaves her unbound with no guards and leaves a loaded gun in her reach. It seems so out of character and unrealisticly stupid, theres no trope I hate more than when the writers make smart villains act stupid so they can be defeated easily.

@@TheAnonyomusGuy I believe it falls under the jurisdiction similar to if you hear people crying for help, and COULD help them in an emergency situation, and choose not to youre guilty of not doing your moral duty or whatever. At least in the states thats a thing. If youre proven to have willingly chosen not to help people when it wouldnt put your own life at risk and you could have done so easily youre at fault for not doing the right thing. So its kinda the inverse I think there. There is active threat towards others lives, and they are not backing down/there is no clear way of disarming or deescalating the situation without lethal force, you are justified in applying lethal force to save those lives. Its possible the person threatening ie the "bad guy's" accomplices/family could try to argue that there were other options, you didnt need to kill, they werent actually capable of following through with the threat etc, but thats all case to case specific. So there IS potential legal discourse if these situations occured irl, but it gets a bit muddied and grey. Most the times in the movies they are very clearly evil people fully capable of killing the people theyre threatening and willing to do so. But Zaheer would absolutely lose that court case lolol, dude was an anarchist and just straight up murdered a royal. There is no law requiring action of ANY sort from a "bystander"; only designated, qualified response personnel are held legally accountable for inaction. If say, somebody was being blatantly kidnapped right in front of you, and you do nothing, you cannot be held legally responsible. First, because technically you didn't do anything, and since no laws require you to intervene, you are not responsible for the crime. Second, it prevents grief-stricken or otherwise emotionally compromised families attempting to take legal vengeance upon somebody that did not commit the crime in a misguided attempt to get some justice for their victim. There IS a "Duty to Rescue" law in some countries, being predominantly European and South American, with a bit of Africa. These usually at minimum require anybody witnessing the event to call the emergency number or fetch medical supplies; but they do not require further attempts. So in the same kidnapping scenario, you can just call the emergency number and no more is required of you. (Also about 2 - 3 USA states have adopted a form of this law) The United States instead has what is known as the "Good Samaritan Law", which states that people giving reasonable assistance to those they believe are in need of aid cannot be held legally liable for wrongdoing. For example, performing CPR on an unconscious person can often crack multiple ribs. This is actually VERY common, because you need to put substantial force on the ribcage in order to significantly compress the heart and lungs. However, without Good Samaritan laws, the person who you literally just brought back from the dead can turn around and sue you for breaking their ribcage, similar to how Mr. Incredible got sued by the man attempting suicide because he broke half his body.

Its always happening to other people. Car crashes,getting attacked by someone, having to fight in a war, dying in war, someone shooting people with a gun in public. I would say that is the main trigger for PTSD, because it breaks the view on the world you lived in. Like soldiers comming back from war having seen horrible things,experienced horrible things and done horrible things and now your supposed to just..keep going like a normal person.

That was from Miami Vice, the man with the gun is a vice cop named Crockett. The guy in the chair (Hackman) had killed Crockett's pregnant wife earlier in the episode. Hackman was a criminal who specialized in home invasions with a habit of killing any witnesses. Hackman was smug because he had fled the US and was on Caicos Island. Hackman had told Crockett that he had bribed the local judge and police and was going to retire here safe from extradition and there was nothing he could do.
"Did you see the sunrise" was such a groundbreaking moment back in the 80s... An unambiguously GOOD guy character. As the villain describes accurately, honor, sense of fair play. Someone who would otherwise NEVER sink to their level.. It was unthinkable that a character of that type would just say "fuck it, he's got it coming" and straight up murder a dude... But Magnum didn't even hesitate, and gave that asshole what he deserved. I remember watching that the first time and everyone was like "oh shit.. He fuckin did it."... It was very much a shock ending in that day and age.
Roughly 40 years ago and American culture has changed so drastically. Not for the better in my opinion since the cost of shifting away from those values costed American's common sense, integrity, and self accountability.
These people forget how easy it is to convince yourself for half a second to do something, especially when it’s a small single action like pulling a finger towards the rest of your hand.

It helps that it was emotionally charged for Bond. Elektra played right into his seduction techniques, getting him to hand-deliver both an escape route for a nuclear weapon and his boss to his current enemy of the month. She played him like a damn fiddle and deserved a line so cold-blooded, hell's frozen layer went "DAMN."

So--- Magnum is remembering the last thing his friend wanted to do, and, IMHO, kind of bumping up his resolution to kill lvan, Ivan has already gotten to do something he took away from Magnum's friend and will continue enjoying the things in life he took away from the friend. That final scene is a day or two later when Ivan is about to leave the country/Hawaii and Magnum and his friends ambush and grab him.

The Daredevil one is my favorite. Dude took off his glasses and stood up thinking "Awe this broad soft she ain't gon do.... 💥 AW WHAT THE FU-"💥💥💥 Like man, I'm glad Wesley got taken out cos he is a menace but he went out GOOFY. He really tried to tell her the heater was cold but she was like "Bullshit" and cranked that up to TOASTY.
The Daredevil one was CRAZY. The whole atmosphere of the situation made her shooting totally unexpected. I was in shock. 1:37 The stakes were so high for both parties given their circumstances but you'd never expect her to shoot given her personality (and her stakes again).

I loved when Frank ran up the stairs in The Punisher and the girl is like "I killed him!" and the bad guy is still alive-ish, Frank says ''You just shot him,Okay? .I killed him'' then proceeds to shoot him again.
The tone of that scene was great. It was a totally serious moment but the way Frank just kills him without a care in the world to comfort a girl was hilarious.

But its often fairly early on in more supernatural movies, where you only then find out that the person shot is a vampire/werewolf/demon. Usually ends up with a 'well now you've surprised me', and then them counter-attacking in some way.
The last clip from Magnum P.I. was the best one. I remember that episode, and how shocking the ending was at the time. Under most circumstances Magnum wouldn't gun down an unarmed man, but this was the guy who murdered his friend, and he was about to walk away, free to kill again.
The thing about 8:35 is... Frank Lucas actually just did that irl. MF simply shot one of his rivals in broad daylight, in harlem, on a crowded sidewalk and got away with it.
Not a gunshot, but the end of the superhero movie, Darkman, is similar. The hero is holding the villain off of a high ledge, and the villains goes "You won't drop me! If you kill me, you become the same as me! You'll never be able to live with yourself!" And of course, the hero drops him. And he says "I'm learning to live with a lot of things."
Also love how it turned the interrogation trope on its rear, too. Darkman has a low-level thug in his grasp, holding his head up through a sewer hole in oncoming traffic. The thug gives him the information thinking he's going to let him go. "I told you everything I knew!". Darkman then says "Yes, you did. But let's pretend that you DIDN'T!", thrusts the thug's head up for it to be squashed like a Mellon beneath a speeding car 's tire.
I like that there's 3 reasons why this happens: 1. The villain thinks they're powerful, important, they feel untouchable because they think the person holding the gun knows pulling the trigger will have consequences 2. They're close to each other, a parent, a relative, a lover, they think they can use emotional manipulation to get away with it 3. They underestimate the other person and think they aren't strong willed or violent enough to pull the trigger Thing is, everyone has limits, and when someone is so done with your shit and one pull away of getting you out of the way, well, all that stuff sometimes doesn't matter lol
That Daredevil scene is so amazing. The characters are just perfect for it. Page is scared shitless and Wesley can be an intimidating guy, you really believe she won't do it until the end.
That scene actually made me drop the series. The guy who is portrayed as the smart, calm and thought out right hand of kingpin just decides he is gonna kidnap someone on his own and then put a loaded gun in front of her while threatening to destroy her entire life. If you wanna kill a character off, fine. But it has to make sense. He acted so out of character, like he just decided to leave his brain at home that day. Sorry, but I gotta disagree with you on that one, I think the scene is pretty terrible.
The American Gangster one is definitely my favorite version of this trope. What’s even better is that Frank when he’s done shooting Tango in broad daylight he casually walks 50 yards back to the diner to finish his breakfast with his family.
The Daredevil one was shocking because I never in a million years expected her to actually do it and Wesley was known for finessing every situation he ever was in.
He always threatens people with Fisk's influence and resources, and in a position where people can't take immediate action against him. It was brilliantly written but makes sense that doesn't work when someone literally has a gun pulled on you, and can neutralize you in a split second. It's also an interesting comparison between Wesley and Fisk. Fisk actually *is* street smart and would have been able to handle Karen in that position.
Something I love is when the hero gets emotional and the bad guy is like, 'You're too scared' no they just know the gravity of taking a life, so they want to be positive that it's gonna be worth it
The Daredevil one was the most out of the blue. This guy is built up as this cut-throat intimidating calculating psychopath, and then he just straight up actually puts a loaded gun down infront of his hostage and is surprised when she takes the gun and shoots him. Like it's gotta be hubris, but it was just so much of an "are you absolutely serious right now" kind of moment.
I love how he laid down very slowly, looking uncomfortable and hesitating a few times, shows that he still fears it even though he's trying to appear confident and makes him feel like an actual human!
That's a good life lesson. Don't provoke someone who can kill you by a flick of their finger. And remember that, unless he's a professional, a person who is pointing a gun at you is most likely in a state of high emotions too. It can take the slightest provocation to make him shoot.
@@throckmortonsmith This really isn't a joking matter when someone is actively giving people advice that would get them killed. If someone points a gun at you, you do what they say. Otherwise you'll most likely die. It isn't like it is in the movies where you can say "You don't have the heart to shoot me" and the gunman gets all emotional and they hug each other. 2:03 I wanna see more of this in the trope. Not necessarily the hero gloating, but the villain realizing they've pushed the hero too far. You get to savor the fear the villain has as they realize their time really is up, and they aren't going to get away. The hero is done letting someone get away with their villainy, and I want to see more of the villain suffering My favorite for example is a Spider-Man comic, where Kingpin hires an assassin to kill Peter Parker, but misses and they almost kill Aunt May. Peter goes to where Kingpin is locked up, and for one of the few, rare times. We see Spider-Man let loose and seriously fight. Peter beats Kingpin within an inch of his life, and doesn't kill him _just_ to prove a point. Kingpin is left stunned as he never knew how much leniency and patience Spider-Man had. Peter leaves him with a warning: The minute Aunt May dies, Kingpin dies. I love watching villains realize they can no longer get away with stuff
That's not really what's happening in that scene. The Doctor's companions take after him in that they're compassionate and peaceful, they'll offer forgiveness over retribution. There is one exception, River Song who is vengeful and has no problem with murder if necessary . So the Dalek believes that she is a companion of the Doctor and that's their predictive behavior, to forgive. She then says her name, the Dalek looks up her records and realizes that her predictive behavior is to kill.
8:29 This is what made me love American Gangster. Denzel Washington's character just doesn't mess around, compare it to some of the scenes in the other movies, it takes ages till they pull the trigger. In American Gangster it doesn't. That's when you know that you shouldn't mess with him. In other movies it would take ages till Idris Elba's character would've been shot.
Never expected Zaheer killing the Earth Queen to pop up in this video. Amongst all these gunshots and tense moments and a cartoon manages to pull off one of the more gruesome executions in the compilation.
Yeah, at least with a gunshot, you'll die almost instantly or would be too uncouncious to even notice what happened, but seeing getting the air our of your lungs and being suffocated by it, it's honestly terrifying.
Honestly Lord Superman killing Luthor is the most gruesome. His eyes start glowing, they cut to Bruce and Diana smelling something burning, they're like "oh no" in a moment of uncharacteristic panic, then they walk into the oval office and grimace. Batman, Mr. Darkness himself, and Wonder Woman, Amazon warrior princess, grimace. They don't show you any gore, it being a children's cartoon, but you see the fire and smoke, you see the damage to the surroundings, and you see Superman looking out the window, hands behind his back, like he's a principal observing his students play at recess, his face is emotionless. Even before the iconic exchange between him and Diana immediately following, the scene was gruesome, because the grue was left to the imagination and when I first watched that scene my mind went wild imagining what human bones looked like when they melted and how the blood glistened on the cauterised stump that used to be the president. What pose was the corpse- what was left of it- in? Did Luthor try to run away, lunge for him, reach for a weapon? Or did he not even have the time- incinerated where he stood by a force so truly beyond his reckoning that he might as well not even have gotten up that morning. Brutal.
The funny thing is this kind of interaction actually happens in real life, people just don't seem to understand how easy it is to kill when all you have to do is put a little bit of pressure on a trigger if we were still stuck with using swords and clubs as weapons I could see these bluffs actually working more often.

Kind of out of the blue thing I was reminded of, but the game The Forest put a lot of emphasis on how difficult and heartaching it actually is to kill someone if you dont have a gun. You have to repeteadly bash their skull or stab them if you really want to take one person out, which is when you really start to feel the guilt to keep going. Guns, make it easy on that front as long as you aim for something vital.
It happens in real life because most people do not understand what being a victim of violence is like in modern society. They are used to living in a clean, safe world where they are not used to being beaten or stabbed or shot. People will talk down to someone with a gun because the thought of being shot really does not cross their mind until they are actually shot.

When people are in a panic and someone is threateningly shouting commands at them, they frequently do as they are told without thinking.
Just for curiosity's sake - what sorts of charges would the perpetrators of those shootings receive? Sure, they committed murder, but they still would have a very good argument that their actions were not fully intentional.

The Daredevil scene was so unexpected and awesome. Karen really surprised me as a character throughout the show.
I'm very happy they ended up subverting Guardian Devil and not killing her off like in the comics. Always ticked me off when they did that in the comics, right after Nocenti finally made Karen a worthwhile character Kevin Smith comes in like "You know what would be totally edgy and cool? If we killed her". Ugh.

Ive said in another comment but I hated it. It was great for Karen's character arc but Wesley was shown to be smart and pragmatic up until that point, and even though he had access to Kingpins resources and men, after capturing Karen he just leaves her unbound with no guards and leaves a loaded gun in her reach. It seems so out of character and unrealisticly stupid, theres no trope I hate more than when the writers make smart villains act stupid so they can be defeated easily.

@@TheAnonyomusGuy I believe it falls under the jurisdiction similar to if you hear people crying for help, and COULD help them in an emergency situation, and choose not to youre guilty of not doing your moral duty or whatever. At least in the states thats a thing. If youre proven to have willingly chosen not to help people when it wouldnt put your own life at risk and you could have done so easily youre at fault for not doing the right thing.
So its kinda the inverse I think there. There is active threat towards others lives, and they are not backing down/there is no clear way of disarming or deescalating the situation without lethal force, you are justified in applying lethal force to save those lives. Its possible the person threatening ie the "bad guy's" accomplices/family could try to argue that there were other options, you didnt need to kill, they werent actually capable of following through with the threat etc, but thats all case to case specific. So there IS potential legal discourse if these situations occured irl, but it gets a bit muddied and grey. Most the times in the movies they are very clearly evil people fully capable of killing the people theyre threatening and willing to do so.

There is no law requiring action of ANY sort from a "bystander"; only designated, qualified response personnel are held legally accountable for inaction. If say, somebody was being blatantly kidnapped right in front of you, and you do nothing, you cannot be held legally responsible. First, because technically you didn't do anything, and since no laws require you to intervene, you are not responsible for the crime. Second, it prevents grief-stricken or otherwise emotionally compromised families attempting to take legal vengeance upon somebody that did not commit the crime in a misguided attempt to get some justice for their victim.
There IS a "Duty to Rescue" law in some countries, being predominantly European and South American, with a bit of Africa. These usually at minimum require anybody witnessing the event to call the emergency number or fetch medical supplies; but they do not require further attempts. So in the same kidnapping scenario, you can just call the emergency number and no more is required of you. (Also about 2 - 3 USA states have adopted a form of this law)
The United States instead has what is known as the "Good Samaritan Law", which states that people giving reasonable assistance to those they believe are in need of aid cannot be held legally liable for wrongdoing. For example, performing CPR on an unconscious person can often crack multiple ribs. This is actually VERY common, because you need to put substantial force on the ribcage in order to significantly compress the heart and lungs. However, without Good Samaritan laws, the person who you literally just brought back from the dead can turn around and sue you for breaking their ribcage, similar to how Mr. Incredible got sued by the man attempting suicide because he broke half his body.

That was from Miami Vice, the man with the gun is a vice cop named Crockett. The guy in the chair (Hackman) had killed Crockett's pregnant wife earlier in the episode. Hackman was a criminal who specialized in home invasions with a habit of killing any witnesses. Hackman was smug because he had fled the US and was on Caicos Island. Hackman had told Crockett that he had bribed the local judge and police and was going to retire here safe from extradition and there was nothing he could do.

"Did you see the sunrise" was such a groundbreaking moment back in the 80s... An unambiguously GOOD guy character. As the villain describes accurately, honor, sense of fair play. Someone who would otherwise NEVER sink to their level.. It was unthinkable that a character of that type would just say "fuck it, he's got it coming" and straight up murder a dude... But Magnum didn't even hesitate, and gave that asshole what he deserved. I remember watching that the first time and everyone was like "oh shit.. He fuckin did it."... It was very much a shock ending in that day and age.
Roughly 40 years ago and American culture has changed so drastically. Not for the better in my opinion since the cost of shifting away from those values costed American's common sense, integrity, and self accountability.

So--- Magnum is remembering the last thing his friend wanted to do, and, IMHO, kind of bumping up his resolution to kill lvan, Ivan has already gotten to do something he took away from Magnum's friend and will continue enjoying the things in life he took away from the friend.
That final scene is a day or two later when Ivan is about to leave the country/Hawaii and Magnum and his friends ambush and grab him.

@@Supperdude9 TECHNICALLY (adjusting glasses) Rule #1 is "Always treat the firearm as loaded", and "Never point it at something you're not willing to destroy" is #2 generally, that being said, both go pretty much hand-in-glove so your comments still correct.
I loved when Frank ran up the stairs in The Punisher and the girl is like "I killed him!" and the bad guy is still alive-ish, Frank says ''You just shot him,Okay? .I killed him'' then proceeds to shoot him again.

@@ScuffedWarden A few times, though usually they still look surprised afterwards. But its often fairly early on in more supernatural movies, where you only then find out that the person shot is a vampire/werewolf/demon. Usually ends up with a 'well now you've surprised me', and then them counter-attacking in some way.
The last clip from Magnum P.I. was the best one. I remember that episode, and how shocking the ending was at the time. Under most circumstances Magnum wouldn't gun down an unarmed man, but this was the guy who murdered his friend, and he was about to walk away, free to kill again.

It was a double episode too IIRC. The best, and most serious in the whole series. My absolute favourite.

Not a gunshot, but the end of the superhero movie, Darkman, is similar. The hero is holding the villain off of a high ledge, and the villains goes "You won't drop me! If you kill me, you become the same as me! You'll never be able to live with yourself!" And of course, the hero drops him. And he says "I'm learning to live with a lot of things."
Also love how it turned the interrogation trope on its rear, too. Darkman has a low-level thug in his grasp, holding his head up through a sewer hole in oncoming traffic. The thug gives him the information thinking he's going to let him go. "I told you everything I knew!". Darkman then says "Yes, you did. But let's pretend that you DIDN'T!", thrusts the thug's head up for it to be squashed like a Mellon beneath a speeding car 's tire.
Great movie.
Severely underrated. Liam Neeson was great.

I like that there's 3 reasons why this happens:
1. The villain thinks they're powerful, important, they feel untouchable because they think the person holding the gun knows pulling the trigger will have consequences
2. They're close to each other, a parent, a relative, a lover, they think they can use emotional manipulation to get away with it
3. They underestimate the other person and think they aren't strong willed or violent enough to pull the trigger
Thing is, everyone has limits, and when someone is so done with your shit and one pull away of getting you out of the way, well, all that stuff sometimes doesn't matter lol
I think there is a movie called....Breaking Point from 2009, pretty good film.
4th, and it's a simple one: Misfire. When the safety is off anyone that weapon is aimed at is in mortal danger at all times; and accidents happen.

That Daredevil scene is so amazing. The characters are just perfect for it. Page is scared shitless and Wesley can be an intimidating guy, you really believe she won't do it until the end.

That scene actually made me drop the series. The guy who is portrayed as the smart, calm and thought out right hand of kingpin just decides he is gonna kidnap someone on his own and then put a loaded gun in front of her while threatening to destroy her entire life. If you wanna kill a character off, fine. But it has to make sense. He acted so out of character, like he just decided to leave his brain at home that day. Sorry, but I gotta disagree with you on that one, I think the scene is pretty terrible.

The American Gangster one is definitely my favorite version of this trope. What’s even better is that Frank when he’s done shooting Tango in broad daylight he casually walks 50 yards back to the diner to finish his breakfast with his family.

The Daredevil one was shocking because I never in a million years expected her to actually do it and Wesley was known for finessing every situation he ever was in.
He always threatens people with Fisk's influence and resources, and in a position where people can't take immediate action against him.
It was brilliantly written but makes sense that doesn't work when someone literally has a gun pulled on you, and can neutralize you in a split second.
It's also an interesting comparison between Wesley and Fisk. Fisk actually *is* street smart and would have been able to handle Karen in that position.

The Daredevil one was the most out of the blue.
This guy is built up as this cut-throat intimidating calculating psychopath, and then he just straight up actually puts a loaded gun down infront of his hostage and is surprised when she takes the gun and shoots him.
Like it's gotta be hubris, but it was just so much of an "are you absolutely serious right now" kind of moment.

I love how he laid down very slowly, looking uncomfortable and hesitating a few times, shows that he still fears it even though he's trying to appear confident and makes him feel like an actual human!
That's a good life lesson. Don't provoke someone who can kill you by a flick of their finger. And remember that, unless he's a professional, a person who is pointing a gun at you is most likely in a state of high emotions too. It can take the slightest provocation to make him shoot.

2:03 I wanna see more of this in the trope. Not necessarily the hero gloating, but the villain realizing they've pushed the hero too far. You get to savor the fear the villain has as they realize their time really is up, and they aren't going to get away. The hero is done letting someone get away with their villainy, and I want to see more of the villain suffering
My favorite for example is a Spider-Man comic, where Kingpin hires an assassin to kill Peter Parker, but misses and they almost kill Aunt May. Peter goes to where Kingpin is locked up, and for one of the few, rare times. We see Spider-Man let loose and seriously fight. Peter beats Kingpin within an inch of his life, and doesn't kill him _just_ to prove a point. Kingpin is left stunned as he never knew how much leniency and patience Spider-Man had. Peter leaves him with a warning: The minute Aunt May dies, Kingpin dies. I love watching villains realize they can no longer get away with stuff

That's not really what's happening in that scene. The Doctor's companions take after him in that they're compassionate and peaceful, they'll offer forgiveness over retribution. There is one exception, River Song who is vengeful and has no problem with murder if necessary . So the Dalek believes that she is a companion of the Doctor and that's their predictive behavior, to forgive. She then says her name, the Dalek looks up her records and realizes that her predictive behavior is to kill.
Wouldn't really say that Spiderman comic is what you're describing in that scene.

8:29 This is what made me love American Gangster. Denzel Washington's character just doesn't mess around, compare it to some of the scenes in the other movies, it takes ages till they pull the trigger. In American Gangster it doesn't. That's when you know that you shouldn't mess with him. In other movies it would take ages till Idris Elba's character would've been shot.
Never expected Zaheer killing the Earth Queen to pop up in this video. Amongst all these gunshots and tense moments and a cartoon manages to pull off one of the more gruesome executions in the compilation.
Yeah, at least with a gunshot, you'll die almost instantly or would be too uncouncious to even notice what happened, but seeing getting the air our of your lungs and being suffocated by it, it's honestly terrifying.

Honestly Lord Superman killing Luthor is the most gruesome. His eyes start glowing, they cut to Bruce and Diana smelling something burning, they're like "oh no" in a moment of uncharacteristic panic, then they walk into the oval office and grimace. Batman, Mr. Darkness himself, and Wonder Woman, Amazon warrior princess, grimace.
They don't show you any gore, it being a children's cartoon, but you see the fire and smoke, you see the damage to the surroundings, and you see Superman looking out the window, hands behind his back, like he's a principal observing his students play at recess, his face is emotionless.
Even before the iconic exchange between him and Diana immediately following, the scene was gruesome, because the grue was left to the imagination and when I first watched that scene my mind went wild imagining what human bones looked like when they melted and how the blood glistened on the cauterised stump that used to be the president.
What pose was the corpse- what was left of it- in? Did Luthor try to run away, lunge for him, reach for a weapon? Or did he not even have the time- incinerated where he stood by a force so truly beyond his reckoning that he might as well not even have gotten up that morning. Brutal.

The funny thing is this kind of interaction actually happens in real life, people just don't seem to understand how easy it is to kill when all you have to do is put a little bit of pressure on a trigger if we were still stuck with using swords and clubs as weapons I could see these bluffs actually working more often.

Kind of out of the blue thing I was reminded of, but the game The Forest put a lot of emphasis on how difficult and heartaching it actually is to kill someone if you dont have a gun. You have to repeteadly bash their skull or stab them if you really want to take one person out, which is when you really start to feel the guilt to keep going. Guns, make it easy on that front as long as you aim for something vital.
It happens in real life because most people do not understand what being a victim of violence is like in modern society. They are used to living in a clean, safe world where they are not used to being beaten or stabbed or shot. People will talk down to someone with a gun because the thought of being shot really does not cross their mind until they are actually shot.
