Cell doesn't have a soul in my opinion. He is a mass bioweapon with a programmed intellect so sopysticated that mimics perfectly humans. C19 was even less than that, a completely artificial weapon. This is how I always saw it: Cell was designed to absorb the Androids. Dr. Gero's computer producing a Cell that isn't strong enough to defeat them would be counterproductive. I do understand the absorption point, though. During his talk with Piccolo, Cell says upon being activated, he realized the Androids were gone. This was in Cell's timeline. In Trunks' timeline, Cell was unable to locate the Androids and decided to confront Trunks. The way it's worded, Cell went looking for the Androids and failed to find them. Like the Cell we see in the main timeline, he most likely went searching for them upon activation and failed to find them. When talking to Gohan, Trunks said the Androids had reduced the world's population to the tens of thousands. While in the present, Cell's victims were stated to have climbed over the 100k mark before the Androids showed up on Roshi's island. Given the population count in Trunks' world, this is most likely identical to Cell's timeline--which was also ravaged by the Androids. Knowing this, Cell would not have been able to raise his power as much as he did in the present. That would've basically screwed him if his power was too low to confront the Androids. I do believe reverting to a larvae reduced his power, but I believe it took him from a level capable of handling the Androids to a much lower level. Once he absorbed Gingertown and Piccolo's arm, he was above the Super Saiyans but still weaker than the higher tiers. All in all, it's very interesting to think about.

Cell > Trunks > Androids This is a timeline with limited people to power cell up, and Cell is canonically more powerful than the guy who is canonically more powerful than the androids. The only reason he has a problem with the main timeline androids is because they are MUCH stronger.
Trunks went into Super Saiyan because all Saiyans are weaker that any enemy after Zarbon and Dodoria if they are in base form,only becoming stronger that those enemies long time after their arcs. Buu saga's Goku would have needed to use at least the Kaio-ken x2 to one shot Namek saga's Frieza Max Power for example. This is why Goku teached Gohan to transform into Super Saiyan,they can't keep up with the enemies without a transformation once Frieza and Goku fought in Namek. Even Piccolo is far stronger that the Saiyans if they don't use the Super Saiyan.

I never got the impression that the cell samples granted Cell power on their own. They gave him knowledge of techniques and biological attributes of the life forms they were taken from. Cell Should have been Namek Saga Frieza or Namek Saga Super Saiyan Goku. At least Namek Saga Frieza, because Cell has the DNA of Frieza and King Cold in him, and Frieza was considered the strongest in the universe at that point in time. So, having Frieza's DNA in him, there is no way that he would be weak. There is just absolutely no way. I believe that before any absorption, Cell should be at minimum Namek Saga Frieza because he should scale to Frieza and stronger than Frieza before any absorption.
My current fan theory is future Trunks was never taught energy sensing. Since the androids can't be sensed, he has never had to face a threat with a huge power level, Gohan might not have had a reason to train him for it. Also with none of the cast around, he can't even really learn it on his own, since he doesn't have other people around him blasting out ki all the time. Cell can sense ki, he uses that fact to follow Piccolo to the androids. He could be much weaker than trunks, and just snuck up on him. He also probably was drawn towards trunks as the only real source of ki on the planet. It reminds me a bit of the freeza fight against pre ssj Goku. Freeza is way stronger and pretty much playing with his food, but freeza does seem to genuinely get bested by Goku on a few exchanges, due to overconfidence and inability to sense his ki. Trunks learns how to sense ki when he comes back and trains with the cast, and as well as spending a year in a room gravity training with another super saiyan. It's also probably helpful that he can get a zenkai boost from eating a bean and not spending 3 months in bed.
When Trunks woke up after Future Gohan knocked him out, he made note of how he was no longer able to sense Gohan's Ki. So he had the ability. As shown during the encounter with Freeza, he could also suppress his Ki to the point where he couldn't be sensed. Seems like Gohan taught him the basics.

I do think it would make sense for Gohan to teach him some basics, but I could still see him being really bad at it compared to most of the cast. Like, Goku is so good at sensing ki, he doesn't even flinch or bother blocking Trunk's first attack when he meets him. Trunks seems more impressed by Goku doing this than effortlessly blocking his moves that killed freeza. Him being good at suppressing his power level makes sense to me though, since he is constantly hiding, and he might not know the androids can't sense him. The main reason why I tend to mention suppression and sensing together is because those skills always seemed to be what separated the Earthlings from everyone else. Like Vegeta for instance: after recovering from the fight with Goku, he immediately learned how to suppress and sense Ki without any training. He just seemed to pick up on it after knowing it was possible. But you're right. Both skills would require different approaches. Guys like Freeza and even Ginyu can suppress their powers while being unable to sense Ki. Both abilities were basically a foreign concept to just about everyone else (Ginyu Force, Zarbon, Dodoria, Raditz, Nappa, etc) in Freeza's army. For what it's worth, Vegeta told Dodoria that the idea of being able to sense Ki would be lost on those like himself and Freeza who are only focused on brute strength.
I've always wondered what would happen if Cell absorbed one of the more powerful characters in the later Cell Saga or beyond in the same way he does the Androids; like the fake-out during GT when he almost does it to kid Goku in HFIL. More than likely, in universe, this just wouldn't be possible because that type of absorption was designed specifically for #17 and #18 and isn't compatible with any other form of life.
Never came this early, keep up the cell saga media. If I could be any db character I'd be cell. He has the broken combination of zenkai boost and regeneration, allowing him to heal from near death and get stronger along with knowing a plethora of useful techniques of the z fighters.

I found myself wondering this the other day. Piccolo who was on par or perhaps slightly outclassed 17 seemed like he was capable of defeating cell in their initial confrontation which is well after cell had absorbed hundreds, probably thousands of people in the present and future time lines. I suspect base imperfect cell would not be able to overpower android 17 or 18 and would have to rely on ambush tactics to forcibly absorb either of the twins. If I had to take a guess I’d wager that base imperfect cell would be around late namek / early android saga super sayin power. I could be way off but it’s an interesting topic to discuss for sure.
I always assumed Cell would have had to be powerful enough without absorbing anyone to at least survive an encounter with 17 and 18 and use solar flare to escape. So probably around super saiyan Vegeta at the power he was against 18. And I think after absorbing everyone in Ginger Town he was probably about equal to 18 in power. If not at least that strong then Piccolo would have effortlessly destroyed him.

I’d say probably at least a bit weaker than that. Even when he first showed up to trunks he had absorbed what was left of humanity in the future and a decent amount of humans before piccolo got to him.
I would definitely say Super Sayian given how Kani viewed Cell as a massive threat. But at the beginning I would have put Cell around more Goku on Namek or Trunks vs Mecha Frieza as Cell seemed to obviously want no part of Piccolo who was a Super Namekian but even Vegeta in his Super Sayian level of strength.
I was just thinking of a What if/Custom Battle for Sparking Zero where Cell emerges early from his larva state underground as Goku and Future Trunks first meet, and them needing to fight together against him
I'd say he's almost SSJ Vegeta in power but he can take a whole lot of beating plus this Cell is sneaky and both 17/18 are ignorants of sensing ki or threat. If he can absorb just one then its over for who is left , in his case he doesnt need to be stronger but cunning.

I've always wondered if Cell had absorbed 18 first would he have gone into the same Semi Perfect form as usual or would it be different in any way? Also could he create Cell jrs in his Imperfect or Semi Perfect forms?
Crazy theory. The reasons why the past androids were stronger than the future ones was because when Cell went back in time his data was sampled by the drones which had them update the systems. This caused the androids to be made even stronger due to cell going back even further in time, but the fallout was only experienced later. Meaning the unseen trunks could have been even weaker due to them having defeated the weaker future timeline androids.
It might even explain why the future androids were more violent than past androids. The future ones had more time for the failed software update to further mess with their minds. The past androids had more time spent upgrading them rather than getting the software update so less time to go murder crazy programming.
He has to be, at the very least, around the super Saiyans before hyperbolic time training since he was confident he could take on future trunks before being defeated
Now i got more Android Questions: 1.) Why Dr. Gero didn't make himself into a Infinite Energy model like 17 and 18.? 2.) Is 19 and 20 models is more powerful than 17 and 18. 3.) Is 16 an infinite En. model to.? 4.) Is 14 and 15 an infinite En. model to.? 5.) Is android 19 and 20 have also the ability to Absorb the En. Battery core from the fallen Android. I would say overall Cell was around a Super Sayian in terms of power because when he first powers up his aura that he gives off is a combination of all the other cells that make him up. Because while 16 points out to large power levels everyone says it feels like everyone we know is fighting Piccolo. As far as a level I'd say above Frieza and King Cold but below Vegeta and Piccolo. So I'd Goku Namek Super Sayian or Trunks vs Frieza who is the weakest out of the Super Sayians. I think given the level of strength and that Cell can actually get stronger through absorption is why Kami felt their only chance to stop him was to fuse with Piccolo and be much stronger to put hom down quickly.

Found it kinda odd why didn't Cell absorb the original Trunks during his ambush for the time machine. When Cell was first introduced none of the Z Fighters sensed OG Trunks' energy in Cell which means he missed out on a descent power increase.
If you think about it his genetics has people that are insanely powerful just because of their genetics like freeza and Gohan and that's probably why he was able to sneak up and over power trunk's and absorb him

What if after Goku powers up for Korin Trunks went down and begged Goku to take him into the time chamber to teach him Grade 4? I Imagine Trunk will mention his full power is amazing and Goku will casually say this it in fact half of my strength which is where Trunk will ask him. I reckon Goku could be convinced as it will take Trunks less time to catch up to Gohan. Trunk was already a Super Saiyan and unlocked Grade 2 and 3, on top of being stronger. So with all that maybe Goku would only need to go back for 4 months and perhaps they will both be knocking on the door of Super Saiyan 2.
Power scaling wise Cell when fighting Piccolo be around 75% of him since hes not completely overwhelmed only just starting to be so. So when hes first out he should still be over ssj Trunks since I don't see him getting that many people from before fighting him probably not too much above maybe 20% above Trunks, I feel hes over a super sayain because he is definitely aware of them and wouldn't take a risk of fighting Trunks since again I don't think he would have found that many people in the future. Getting anything accurate tho is rough power scaling is tough lol.

I have base Vegeta and Goku's cells but Trunks SSJ cells are unnecessary, this is a bit problematic. You design the perfect weapon so you collect leftovers from King Cold and Frieza. Maybe it's that Dr. Gero's computer had no way to collect Trunks cells in this timeline he didn't bleed until "they" blow it up .

I've always wondered what would happen if Cell absorbed one of the more powerful characters in the later Cell Saga or beyond in the same way he does the Androids; like the fake-out during GT when he almost does it to kid Goku in HFIL. More than likely, in universe, this just wouldn't be possible because that type of absorption was designed specifically for #17 and #18 and isn't compatible with any other form of life.
Never came this early, keep up the cell saga media. If I could be any db character I'd be cell. He has the broken combination of zenkai boost and regeneration, allowing him to heal from near death and get stronger along with knowing a plethora of useful techniques of the z fighters.

I found myself wondering this the other day. Piccolo who was on par or perhaps slightly outclassed 17 seemed like he was capable of defeating cell in their initial confrontation which is well after cell had absorbed hundreds, probably thousands of people in the present and future time lines. I suspect base imperfect cell would not be able to overpower android 17 or 18 and would have to rely on ambush tactics to forcibly absorb either of the twins. If I had to take a guess I’d wager that base imperfect cell would be around late namek / early android saga super sayin power. I could be way off but it’s an interesting topic to discuss for sure.

I always assumed Cell would have had to be powerful enough without absorbing anyone to at least survive an encounter with 17 and 18 and use solar flare to escape. So probably around super saiyan Vegeta at the power he was against 18.
And I think after absorbing everyone in Ginger Town he was probably about equal to 18 in power. If not at least that strong then Piccolo would have effortlessly destroyed him.

I’d say probably at least a bit weaker than that. Even when he first showed up to trunks he had absorbed what was left of humanity in the future and a decent amount of humans before piccolo got to him.
I would definitely say Super Sayian given how Kani viewed Cell as a massive threat. But at the beginning I would have put Cell around more Goku on Namek or Trunks vs Mecha Frieza as Cell seemed to obviously want no part of Piccolo who was a Super Namekian but even Vegeta in his Super Sayian level of strength.

I'd say he's almost SSJ Vegeta in power but he can take a whole lot of beating plus this Cell is sneaky and both 17/18 are ignorants of sensing ki or threat.
If he can absorb just one then its over for who is left , in his case he doesnt need to be stronger but cunning.

Crazy theory.
The reasons why the past androids were stronger than the future ones was because when Cell went back in time his data was sampled by the drones which had them update the systems.
This caused the androids to be made even stronger due to cell going back even further in time, but the fallout was only experienced later.
Meaning the unseen trunks could have been even weaker due to them having defeated the weaker future timeline androids.
It might even explain why the future androids were more violent than past androids.
The future ones had more time for the failed software update to further mess with their minds.
The past androids had more time spent upgrading them rather than getting the software update so less time to go murder crazy programming.
Dr. Gero could of use his intelligence to help mankind... Smh he is really one of the most evil characters in DBZ.

I would say overall Cell was around a Super Sayian in terms of power because when he first powers up his aura that he gives off is a combination of all the other cells that make him up. Because while 16 points out to large power levels everyone says it feels like everyone we know is fighting Piccolo. As far as a level I'd say above Frieza and King Cold but below Vegeta and Piccolo. So I'd Goku Namek Super Sayian or Trunks vs Frieza who is the weakest out of the Super Sayians. I think given the level of strength and that Cell can actually get stronger through absorption is why Kami felt their only chance to stop him was to fuse with Piccolo and be much stronger to put hom down quickly.
Imperfect Cell’s reasoning for not absorbing more of piccolo(or trunks iirc) was so stupid. Obviously the people he absorbed were just add on to his power, not his DNA. Absorbing piccolo would’ve made a much bigger difference than probably 1000s of humans.
I do question though. When imperfect cell powers up, you see like the souls of the people he absorbed or some shit. Does that imply that after he’s used the power, it will go completely after a while making him weaker again?

Found it kinda odd why didn't Cell absorb the original Trunks during his ambush for the time machine. When Cell was first introduced none of the Z Fighters sensed OG Trunks' energy in Cell which means he missed out on a descent power increase.

What if after Goku powers up for Korin Trunks went down and begged Goku to take him into the time chamber to teach him Grade 4? I Imagine Trunk will mention his full power is amazing and Goku will casually say this it in fact half of my strength which is where Trunk will ask him. I reckon Goku could be convinced as it will take Trunks less time to catch up to Gohan. Trunk was already a Super Saiyan and unlocked Grade 2 and 3, on top of being stronger. So with all that maybe Goku would only need to go back for 4 months and perhaps they will both be knocking on the door of Super Saiyan 2.

Power scaling wise Cell when fighting Piccolo be around 75% of him since hes not completely overwhelmed only just starting to be so. So when hes first out he should still be over ssj Trunks since I don't see him getting that many people from before fighting him probably not too much above maybe 20% above Trunks, I feel hes over a super sayain because he is definitely aware of them and wouldn't take a risk of fighting Trunks since again I don't think he would have found that many people in the future. Getting anything accurate tho is rough power scaling is tough lol.

I have base Vegeta and Goku's cells but Trunks SSJ cells are unnecessary, this is a bit problematic. You design the perfect weapon so you collect leftovers from King Cold and Frieza. Maybe it's that Dr. Gero's computer had no way to collect Trunks cells in this timeline he didn't bleed until "they" blow it up .
I think present Cell that krillin and Trunks destroy the lap if he live he would absurb the present 18 andv17 without needing help of absub human coz he would be stronger than the Cell who we knew

I think he was as strong as super saiyan goku after he came back from planet yardrat or mecha frieza before he started to absorb people. Cell was weaker than trunks and clearly weaker than the androids otherwise he would’ve found them through trunks like he did piccolo
