Man! Train's in Australlia and trains in the U.S.A have alot in common, but Australlia is even better, cause when you have steam engines running through the downtown area of a big city, you know it's gonna be spectacular! I'm from California so, it's cool to see steam is alive and well in Australlia
Yes a bunch of Gunzels playing trains and stinking up the amenity. The chant of the 567 with that horn has well given me the 'orn. I declare bias (BG Junkie) but after watching hundreds - maybe thousands - of train vids on TH-cam from all over the world, this is one of the best I have ever seen. X31 is nice. SRHC originally acquired X35 for preservation but they sent it back to Freight Australia for rebuilding as XR551 with one condition: when X31 is retired, it'll be passed to Seymour for preservation. X31 is like a heritage unit for Australia.
Adam, a question. I know that the railroads in Vic., don't share US Railroad practices but the one thing is blowing for someone or for a road or grade crossing. I notice that you only blow the horn once where as here we blow 2 longs a short and a long for someone or a road crossing. so the question, why do the railroads in Vic, and elsewhere only blow the one time instead of more of a warning, thus giving more notification a train is about to you and also so we can enjoy the horn? Just curious.
Jim the Standard in Victoria is a minimum of one long, one short before each crossing. But any more is at the descretion of the driver/engineer, If the trains prescence is seen to be un noticed or ignored by animals or people on or near the line, using the horn more frequently is required. after all it could save someones life, or keep the locomotive crew safe or out of jail when an investigation takes place after an accident. The sound of a long whistle should be distinct, and used in proportion to the distance at which the whistle is required to be heard. www.artc.com.au/library/TA20_Section_10.pdf
The 2 engineers at the end only blows the horn for no reason. Its running grade separated and there's a very unlikely there's a crew working on track as the train goes.
@@AUSSIETRAINDRIVER I heard on the drivers grapevine that he Recently became an Instructor. Poor Bastard will now spend 99% of his time in a bloody 2x2m office. Yuk!
What I have noticed about the Australian and New Zealand freight trains is they are on the right side of the tracks and left hand drive and the freight trains in Canada and the US are on the left hand side of the tracks and right hand drive
Does Australia have a certain rule regarding the sounds of horns? For example, there's an Australian version of the K5LA; I'm assuming that would be the K5-AU-LS.
No not really, just a Min decibel requirement but no set chord. We do have the K5 variant here, the k horns are coming more popular here as other models are becoming extremely expensive.
Now Adam I am still waiting for my cut on the royalties from this video. I know X31 and the Horns, Plus R707 are the stars but I need to feed my family. Pay up!
Speaking of which, I caught an SD70M owned by UP which seemed to have either a very fouled K5LA or a fouled K3LA. It's on one of my compilation videos.
wait in the description you said it was a UP k5la and union pacific never used k5la's except for on some of the dash 8 9 and the sd70mac witch was rare. Now uinion pacific's tier 4 sd70ace's have k5la's but first AWSOME!! K5LA!! what loco is it from?????
Do you still have that K5LA? It sounds really nice. I also noticed that the bell arrangement on the manifold is a bit different from a regular ABF K5LA (The correct bell arrangement for an ABF K5LA is for the #2 bell to be to the right of the #1 bell, the #3A bell to be to the left of the #1 bell, the #5 bell to be left of the #3A bell, and the #4A bell to be to the right of the #2 bell).
I guess to be original that's true, still does the same thing I guess, with all bells forward you get the true power of the K5! 👌 I don't have it atm, but the guy who does is a good friend and we have an agreement that it's not for sale to anyone but myself so I know it will always be mine again if he decides to part with it. I do have another K5la at home but it's not as beautiful as my old one.
@@AUSSIETRAINDRIVER It's even worse for you, as Nathan horns are mostly for sale in the US, which means you have to go through the process of importing, which is costly, lengthy, and risky as horns are very fragile.

repeatman; and what about the timeless ambiance of a city 7:40? this feels like a literal ghost train to me.
I just wish I could hear the bell too. That's the typical Amtrak arrival sound.
Good old X31 in service as a heritage unit and the leader of the VR X class diesel locomotives.
That horn is awesome!! Especially when it echoes around Southbank.

you have similar locomotives as the USA!
Very similar, yes.
Same engines, different locomotives. But some similarities.

Adam Hollins Australia uses EMD F-Units and E-Units. They also use some GE Dash 8's and Dash 7's, also, some AC44's.

Nope, no crossing there. Just for the camera! 💪👌

It's the classic 14L sequence.
That's what we call the crossing sequence.
That is so wrong but it sounds so good LOL. Top video mate, they should be fitted to the X more often!

If you're still fitting horns to locos, can you fit a Southern Pacific P3? And then let me know where you'll be tooting it!

You should bring a K5L or K5H on that engine next time.
I don't think Union Pacific had any K5LAs. The horn was probably from a different railroad, like CSX or Norfolk Southern.
+stampycatfan01 Some of UP's SD70Ms have K5LAs
Bryan McKenzie From all of the UP SD70M's I've heard, only 2 had horns other than a K3LA: one with a GEVO horn, the other with a K5LLA.
