Those Netflix, Spotify buttons should have definitely been made assignable to different services. No doubt there is some kickback $ from those four companies, but there are so many other media services out there. Hardly an essential accessory

I think the media remote is pretty good, I enjoy mine. I don’t like using the controller for movies because it just wastes the battery and the controller will be dead by the time I want to play a game. I also like how it can control the TV itself so I don’t even have to find my tv remote.
Exactly, that's why I can't wait for mine to get here. I use my ps4 and 5 for all my media and without a remote my controller battery is always half dead (or dead) by the time I want to play games. One question, does this remote require being powered on before it functions? My PS3 remote just worked, then I got the PS4 remote and it sucks. It has to be powered on like a controller every time I want to use it, then it stays on for 5-10 minutes (depending on my controller settings) and drains the batteries. So, if I want to quickly pause a show because someone's at the door I have to press the ps button, wait 5 seconds then pause and it drains the battery for 5 minutes for one button press, then the same thing to in pause it. I have to switch remote batteries every month. Please tell me they fixed this with the ps5 remote.
@@errormachine5056 I’ve been using the ps5 media remote almost daily for apps and Blu-ray’s, and it doesn’t have to be powered on. If you’re halfway through a movie and just randomly press the pause button it will work. Once you press a button on the remote it connects to the system, and then it works smooth from there. I’ve never had to reconnect it or press the PlayStation button to pause a movie. I think you’ll be happy with the remote because from my experience it works very good. I had the old PS4 media remote and i can tell you with confidence that the ps5 media remote is a lot better. I believe the PS4 media remotes weren’t even made by Sony, they were done by PDP, while the ps5 media remote was made by Sony themselves.
@@TimDespairBear11 hi, follow up here. My remote finally came in and for the most part I like it. It DOES turn off, but pressing any button turns it on immediately and any button turns it on... Definitely better than the PS4 where only one button turned on the remote and it would take up to 5 seconds to connect. I've just noticed with the ps5 remote sometimes the first click doesn't work but the second one right after always does. Also not the biggest fan of the round bottom, the remote is always spinning and wobbling around, but that's being nit picky because my other remote is a $300 Logitech that has every possible caveat is addressed. It even has a bump shape made of rubber for your fingers underneath. Hopefully this won't drain batteries as much as the PS4 remote, regardless it's still a pretty good remote so far and is better than either the PS4 remote or alway using a controller.
@@errormachine5056 sorry I just noticed your reply lol. My batteries just died after using it since launch, so i guess it lasted around 2 months? Mileage may vary. Yeah I mean overall at least it’s pretty good, the PS4 media remotes were way worse. I also wish you could customize the buttons on the bottom as I don’t care about Spotify or Disney plus that much but it’s whatever. I like the TH-cam button though I do watch a lot of TH-cam.
@@TimDespairBear11 ha, I guess button customizing could be good. I actually use all these button but TH-cam the least. Got kids and we watch Disney + all the time, and now that they improved the sound of Spotify over the PS4 I use Spotify all the time. It's funny that we are complete opposites on the buttons; if I was to remove any it would be swapping TH-cam for prime. That is where button customizing would come in handy. I also find that the back is now kind of loose, but that could be thanks to small kids always playing with it. Still a nice remote but maybe they should get Logitech to design the next one, im a big fan of their designs; from remotes to keyboards to mouse's. Also wanted to add: I went back to play PT on my ps4 the other day after only playing ps5 for a few months and wow, I didn't realize how much better the ps5 controller feels until went back to the PS4......also forgot how good PT was until playing RE: Maiden and going back.
I just got one for my birthday. Its much nicer to watch movies etc without carrying the big controller around. Looks nice next to pulse headset and everything else loving the white and black astetic of the ps5

I have backlight on my universal Phillips remote i bought for my tv because i hated the Roku remote.
The batteries last at least a year each time.

Speaking about the TV my most peppy have is when I’m listening to my Spotify music on my PS five why are my TV is off? Is there a way I could wake up my PS five without the need of turning on my TV because I have actually listen to music while my PS five is on with PS five headset, and it works like as if I am listening to music on a stereo but without the need of my TV on, I was wondering is there a way I don’t have to turn the TV on, just to re-activate my music?

No, but it does seem to default to media when I power on/wake the system with the media remote
If you have a non gamer in the house and use the ps5 for media/streaming this is a must own. It’s so much better than the ps4 remote. I wish one could assign services to the dedicated buttons, but you just have to teach gran to say “open Hulu.” It really is simple enough for grandparents to use.

An oddity about this control is the AA batteries I got with mine. Sony brand, very very light batteries went flat really, really fast.

If you have a Sony TV your tv remote can control your ps5 and ps4 you can play music on your ps5 and change music from your TV remote. Also you can control your TV with a ps5 or ps4 controller

This remote is mostly intended for controlling the TV that supports CEC technology unfortunately it does not work with surround systems as it does not have an interface to it

HDMI-CEC already allows you to use your regular TV controller to navigate the menus. The only thing my TV's remote doesn't have is a PS button.
My TV remote can’t pause Netflix (function not supported) or exit any app. So it’s basicaly useless (Philips 65” 2021 TV). So for me this IS essential.

I'm in a weird situation where not just my ps but also my monitor and my speakers has no option to control the volume of the system. Is this product could fix my issue? Or the remote control just controling the tv's sound level?

will this remote bypass the notification I get from the ps5 controller turning off 10min after whilst I'm in the middle of a film. it really throws me out of the movie when I get that notification but I have to have it at the 10min marker for the quickest power saving setting?
I bought it back in February and now for a month it will move three icons and then not work at all. I checked that I got connection which it is, tried removing it and then adding it to my PS5 and I changed the batteries and still nothing. What do I do at this point?
I may be in the minority, but I do not use Spotify or have Disney+. I wish there were options to swap out service buttons or to not have them at all. Don't want a constant visual reminder of a service I don't have or want.
I don't use Spotify but I use the other 3 so I'm kind of happy, but they should have make swappable button labels

You can't swap out the buttons its the board that's set up this way so it would still load these apps
Majority of us don’t use all four of these. But unfortunately these services paid Sony enough money to butchet it’s remote with their dedicated buttons. I personaly only use Disney+ out of these four.

It uses the Google assistant and yes it does work to open up content from the home screen but not inside of the app

The only thing that controller gives you is the ability to turn your TV on and off which you can do with the EC and the and the PlayStation controller, and it gives you the option, the ability to turn the volume up and down, which you cannot do I believe with your PlayStation controller
just got this, kinda ok to use when using the ps5 for movies. still can't figure out volume and I would like it to control ps5 volume as well as volume within a few apps like prime video. I'm using a gaming monitor and my monitor has an aux output to connect external speakers so obviously the monitor volume is not there to be controlled but as long as I can control ps5 main volume or app volume and figure that out or if anyone knows please reply!

Do you need this remote to control volume of sound bar if connected through HDMI CEC? I wanted to be a able to control volume through the PS5 controller but I can't seem to find that option.
You use your normal tv remote atleast for my sound bar when it's connected to my TV. Or the soundbars remote.
My gripe is that there’s no “stop nor eject” buttons. When playing a 4k movie I don’t like having to pause it and have to manually eject it. If it really wants to be user-friendly it needs those 2 features added. I don’t like having to eject my disc in this suspended “play” state. I don’t wanna damage my disc or cause the PS5 to malfunction.
If you're ejecting the disk chances are you'll be putting it away therefor you'll be getting up anyway. Unless you wanna eject and let the disc sit half out

Looked into getting this thing, but decided against it. As far as I can tell it's terrible for disc based media, with no chapter skip, no proper menu buttons, no eject button. Pretty much every TV these days is a smart TV, so why would I ever use my PS5 to watch Netflix?
Is it IR or RF? Bluetooth? My ps5 is behind my TV completely.
You should move the PS5 so it can breath (assuming the media center is against a wall) That thing will overheat

@@Gregory_Goodnight Those 3 statements aren't really adding up. Sorry if that sounds bad, but I've come across plenty of "computer desks" that have horrible airflow. Either way, consoles aren't meant to be hidden. But I'd like to know how it communicates with the PS5, as well.

I have this and want my PDP media remote I for PlayStation 4 back. That one not only had the face/shape buttons on it but also L1/L2 R1/R2. But the main thing I use the Media Remote for is when I watch Blu-rays. And for some reason I cannot fathom they took out the chapter skip buttons and ONLY have the rewind and fast forward buttons.
