The only reason I need one is because it’s impossible to watch tv in bed with a controller. I suffered too long with the DS4 jumping off my bed and the triggers rewinding and fast forwarding every single time I dared to breathe.

Don't forget how awful it is to have the Dual Shock 4's Blue Light bar glowing in the dark OR the Duel sense's ugly lights emiting around the touch pad. This is where black electrition tape comes in handy. :P

Yeah well I definitely use it when I'm eating and just want to watch stuff. Don't want my Cheeto dust fingers rubbing the dualsense. The mic is useless if youre constantly on TH-cam and want to search stuff in general. Supposedly there will be a firmware update to rectify this.

The remote is still useful for me, because I don't like how I had to unnecessarily use my gaming remote to navigate my PlayStation to watch a movie, because by the time I want to play a video game, the battery will either be really low or already dead, depending on what status my DualSense battery is. So The media remote is pretty worth it to this day for me

  • @DKprojects9

I've seen a lot of people say "you don't need this media remote because your tv remote can do all the same things." I have a sony tv and ya my remote does do all the things BUT once I open an app like youtube I can't get out of it with a TV remote. I need the PS5 media remote just for the PS button so I can get back to main menu. Sure I could just grab my PS5 controller and do this but then that defeats the entire purpose of using a remote instead of the controller anyways.

the only reason I would want one is because the controller will drain it's battery every time I watch netflix, and i can't have it next to me willy-nilly, cause then the triggers might get pressed and my show will fast forward/backward or even skip to next episode.
But since I don't use Spotify nor Disney+ , is there a way to re-program those buttons to say HBO or Viaplay (other services you use) ??

You said your tv remote does the same thing as the ps5 media remote. I have a Philips tv and once i'm streaming videos in an app like hbo max, if i want to switch to another app, i can't exit current app with my tv remote, i have to use the ps5 controller to go to the ps5 home screen and than i can change apps with my tv remote. Also, i can't turn off the console using my tv remote, if i turn off the tv, the playstation goes to rest mode, it doesn't turn off completely, so you do need the media remote to enjoy the full experience. Otherwise you need to use both the tv remote and the ps5 controller.

I have the PS5 remote controller and while I haven't used it much for the first few months since getting it, I'm using it more for watching contents on Bluray discs. Too bad that the buttons are not programmable to substitute services that I do not use e.g. Disney+, Netflix, etc. And disappointed that there's no button to switch the source.
I did find it easier to use the remote controller when watching movies using the PSVR2 headset instead of enabling passthrough to see where my controller is.
The directional buttons are a bit too thin.
Overall, I think the remote is 7/10 for simplicity and design. Would have been 10/10 if they could add in the source switch button, CC button, and programmable buttons. Good thing this remote can take in standard AA batteries and not need lithium.

This remote sucks, it would be infinitely better if it had a source button for this occasions that turning your PS5 on doesn't switch to correct unit, but more than that it doesn't have R buttons!! Like seriously, you can instantly load Netflix and D+ etc but if you want to load prime you need to hit the PS button and manually move over to the media section if you're already in the games section... At least with an R button it could be achieved with 2 presses.
Honestly even a media / games button would work.

  • @NeonPizza80s

This remote is ruined by the D-pad, or should i say...Thin sliver shaped arrows that are not only awkward but harder to find and press. It just doesn't feel good to use, and to make things worse they placed the home button directly at the bottom.
Roku did it 10x better with thier current Streamer remotes. I'd rather not use external devices like Roku or even the PS5 for streaming anyways, they're a noticeable step back when it comes to picture quality, Roku being even softer than PS5. Internal apps in lets say modern OLED TV's produce a sharper/crisper image. PS5(Disc) does have a solid 4K Blu-ray player built in, I'll give it that.

Got this as i use the PS5 more as a media app than to play games. Sorry but 1 of worst controllers Ive ever had. It only works 50% of the time as it loses connection with the PS5 constantly & you have to reconnect it. Design is poor. Its too small to hold, the buttons are far too shallow & fiddly, very difficult to press & they are barely raised above the surface. The battery compartment also rattles and rhe Sony batteries ran out after a week. 1/10 from me 😉
