    Steve Marriott's accomplishments beyond his home of Britain have been overlooked for years. However, a lot of people are discovering him nowadays. I would say he had THE most soulful voice in England ever...and was a huge influence on peers of his like Rod Stewart, Robert Plant and Roger Daltrey. Marriott's music with The Small Faces and Humble Pie is absolutely outstanding, there are so many songs I could suggest...like 30 Days In The Hole or I Don't Need No Doctor by the Pie....or choice cuts by Small Faces like Itchycoo Park, Tin Soldier or Lazy Sunday. Also, shout out to the ladies singing, The Blackberries, who not only did lots of records of their own, but they helped out lots of other groups and performers during the seventies. In fact, after they helped out Humble Pie, The Blackberries went on to help Pink Floyd with stuff like Dark Side Of The Moon and Wish You Were Here!

      Steve Marriott in my opinion is the greatest male vocalist the uk has ever produced. I absolutely love The Small Faces, Tin Soldier is right up there in my top 10 singles and Ogdens is probably my favourite album of all time.

    The Blackberries were a separate group, but I believe that they toured extensively with Humble Pie.

    This is my first time on your channel. You popped up on my menu due to the fact that I listen to alot of Steve Marriott I love to see the look on the faces of first time listener when little Stevie first opens his mouth to sing!
    You can tell by the rapport that Steve loves his Blackberries and they have written that they loved him too. These girls were very experienced back up singers for many famous artists, Vanetta Fields was an Ikette and Clydie King was a Raylette , two of Steve Marriotts heroes.
    Black Coffee is a cover of a song by Ike & Tina Turner. In the original, Tina sings "My skin is brown, but my mind is black", so Steve just made a slight adjustment. For more soulful Humble Pie, try "I Wonder" or "Roadrunner". For rock, any of those songs listed in the comments are good ones.
    If you would like some amazing R&B, sung by a little English guy, sounding like a black soul singer, You will love Steve Marriott's former band - Small Faces. My favorite soul covers are "You've Really Got a Hold on Me", "Baby Don't Do it" or their originally written song "All or Nothing". Hope you will enjoy. I will subscribe and watch for more.

    Yea, they know what he's talkin' bout.

    Just a great song but Steve made it outstanding. The sisters were into it also and made that backup work!

    They get the whole band between him and the girls so he's not over there rubbing on their leg in the middle of the song!

    Found you purely by accident by searching reactions to this song. It's something I do once a month or so because the song is so crazy and I love to see new reactors discover it. You are spectacular I love you so much.

      Stephanie- I do pretty much the same thing. I was around when Humble Pie played but they weren't on my radar then
      I had to wait until I was 65 to hear this. I honestly am not sure what the proper term is nowadays for people of color. Black is what I grew up with, ( I'm so white I'm freaking Caucasian) and in my mind it meant Louis Armstrong, Samy Davis Jr., Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, Earth Wind and Fire

    • @MrDarkMagnus
      @MrDarkMagnus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry. Hit return before I was done. To me the term black was associated with great performances. So I always watch when the line, "my skin is white but my soul is black". I have not seen a black reactor take any exception to this. I'm grateful for this. Soul cuts through any possible bs.

    Steve Marriott is considered to be one of the greatest soul voices, not just in Great Britain, but in the world. This British Born Rocker had his first hit in 1967 with his Band The Small Faces. A few years later he formed another Band (this one) called Humble Pie. Steve died maybe 10 years ago. he was still rocking to the end.

      He died about 30 years ago in a fire at his home. Apparently smoking in bed. Outstanding singer and performer. Saw him back in the early 70s.

    The Blackberries were awesome! They were a group on their own, did backup for many different artists and bands. Earlier they performed under other names. And did backup for Ike and Tina Turner. Tina, by the way, wrote "Black Coffee." Loved the chemistry here between Steve Marriott and the sistahs. Marriott had an amazing, soulful voice and dynamic stage presence. He and Humble Pie were taken advantage of financially by a deceitful, thieving business manager. Steve came to a sad end in a house fire in 1991.

    HP was not your typical white British band of the 70s….they certainly stood out from the others with songs such as this, but they could not stay relevant in the late 70s because of the shift in genre popularity and faded away in the 80s. They did have quite a few memorable songs and kept a cult following with those who liked blues and soul infused rock music
