He set his own bed on fire - fell asleep drugged, drunk and with a cigarette - he only has himself to blame. And I have read biographies about him- he wasn't a very nice person - he was awful to Ronnie Lane who had MS - accused him of being drunk! Recollections vary regarding Marriot.

Oh my God...how sad. 😢 Mr Marriott, live on, if only for the generations that never saw, and maybe never will, know what you did to change attitudes of small minds to make the world a more tolerant and accepting place for new generations. Maybe you didn't even know. I can't talk for anyone else, but people like you made a huge difference to the difficult childhood my sister and I had. We became brave enough to leave our home in secret one night, hitch-hike across australia as far away as we could get and take our chances on the streets. I know that sounds dramatic to people reading this. But it wasn't then. We did do it a bit tough. Anyway, many years ago now and much water under the bridge since then. Thank you. RIP ❤

Steve is our superstar reserved for those that heard a natural born talent, any guitar he picked sounded unique, his singing and writing all things that excelled at. He is a National treasure. He was always working and collaborating on something . He played the Harp too!

I only saw him twice. Once, in April of '71 (Humble Pie / with Frampton), and again a couple of years later (Humble Pie / with Clem).

I was lucky to see him in Rehoboth DE. We can came back down for second day soundcheck and Marriott bought me a beer and played pinball with me.
We had good weed and got invited onto the bus after that show. Spent some time with Goldie talking about the Vietnam war.
How lucky to have caught time with Marriott just before his passing.

Steve Marriott is one of those musicians (like Marc Bolan, John Lennon, Randy California… ) whose passing hit me hard. Gone tragically too soon.

When I watch the live performance of this song in 1966 it seems so ahead of its time. So much power and soul, it’s definitely not a pop song but it still reached the no.1 slot effortlessly.

Steve Marriot had one of the most powerful voices in all of Rock & Roll! Him not being a household name is a crime. His story is tragic!
