Unimog, the universal mobile Gerät, ie a tool. The wheels are more a necessity to allow it to get where its on-board generator, the engine, is needed to power virtually any kind of powered tool.
It's not comfortable, fast, or luxurious. But hell, it's gonna get wherever it needs to be. Eventually. Under its own power.
The only terrain a unimog gets stuck in is deep swamp which reaches the portal axles. Everything else is more or less a nuisance.

I always found Unimogs cool little all terrain trucks. This one doesn't need its throttle pedal, that thing crawls over everything slow and easy while idling. It's made to drag agricultural equipment, military use, in construction work and is also used a lot as hi-rail vehicle in Europe too, for maintenance of way and as an industrial switcher to move railcars. It can do this because it was designed to do, hence the great power on the wheels.

This is the benefits of a purpose designed vehicle. Unimogs have portal axles with gears to lift the diff casing well above the centre of the wheel. They also have a chassis which will flex, as well as centre diff locks like most 4wds plus front and rear lockers. This means or four wheels will continue turning as opposed to losing traction if two lose grip as with a centre locker

Encountered flash floods, crossed creeks too deep, stuck in several feet of snow and dug ourselves out many times, -15deg once. I look back and think how recklessness, it could have gone so wrong. @@johncunningham4820only the latest Unimogs have a center differential. With a lock, of course.
But they ALL have locks at the front and rear.
and they can be switched on and off individually at any time.
So why do you think that the Unimog needs a locker for the center differential when it doesn't even have a center differential?
And why do you prefer torsen at the rear? I think diff lock ist better.
So the question is not whether the mog needs locks. But why this one doesn't have one.
Or maybe they just didn't use them?
And why don't these guys even tighten the V-belt so that the steering works again?
by the way. The Unimog does not have a 4-speed gearbox but a 6-speed gearbox.
1+2 the lever has to be pushed all the way to the left against a lock. If you don't know that, you won't find the gears. They are very slow. 4-6 are normal gears.
There is also a reduction gear, so you can drive extremely slowly. So not 8 but 12 gears.
They drive at least 3 low. Why.
And the power steering works. otherwise he could never steer like that. The V-belt only slips when things get hard. easy to repair.

I have the same steering box on my Unimog 404 and with a tiny MB100 steering pump. I can steer with 1 finger while not driving.
So the tires on the hauk unimog are to wide and the spacers also won't help hahah.
And it need an instruction plate what every handle do in the Unimog ;-)

In early 2000 in Cyprus a guy build a samurai with unimog axles and a 2.5v6 from a grand Vitara he won continues for 5 years . Unimogs are cool but 250k to beat just by 30 meters the record of a 10k samurai 😂😂😂

Germans make such great vehicles. Everything is so perfect and efficient. I had a mercedes for many years and it was my favourite car i ever had.... up til my hubby bought me a rangerover sport. So obviously i got rid of my Mercedes. 😅

I may have misunderstood, but all Unimogs have locking differentials.
That thing is like bringing a bazooka to a knife fight.

@@Maxx.Powell That's probably what it was, the power steering wasn't working either, it didn't seem to hurt it much, that thing is a beast.

Impressive, yes. But that $500,000+ Unimog didn't go anywhere that a 30+ year old 1st Generation Toyota 4 Runner didn't go first.
