  • After the debacle last time I tried to woodturn a thin vase, I wanted a chance at lathe redemption! I think I got the edges on this bowl pretty thin...
    My tools:
    Starbond Glue: bit.ly/2RFrayA (Use discount code "cook" for 10% off!)
    Resin: amzn.to/2nUhFPg
    Finishing Oil: amzn.to/2oAFPP6
    Carbide Chisels: amzn.to/2NUiEdq
    Face Shield: amzn.to/2Ac4Cvj
    Center Finder: amzn.to/2ld06Ju
    Jet Lathe: amzn.to/2qG2wD5
    Nova Chuck: amzn.to/32tJvkm
    Respirator: amzn.to/2N7mxfm
    Miter Saw: amzn.to/2ZpjuBW
    Drill: amzn.to/2XtnW0G
    Square: amzn.to/2VaCNzW
    Clamps: amzn.to/2UvPSiZ
    *if you shop through these links I may receive a small commission. The price is the same for you, but it helps support me as a beginner woodturner in my quest to get a bigger lathe to make bigger projects, and I really appreciate it!

    Nice bowl 😏. Picked up a lathe a few weeks ago. I’ve turned a Cylinder and started to turn a log. Got some pen blanks and kits that I plan on working on this weekend.

    I have a suggestion for your chuck coming off spindle, put chuck in a warm oven 150 or so, freeze the spindle, install when hot and cold, it probably won't ever come off

    Thank you for this great video. Do you recommend using dry or green wood? I'm a beginner at this point and have turned a few bowls with some success.

    • @CookWoodworks
      @CookWoodworks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think green wood is great for practice and learning. Most likely your bowl will warp or crack as it dries, unless you rough turn and wait several months, but I don't mind when that happens as I care more about learning than the end result. Thanks for watching and good luck!

    • @CookWoodworks
      @CookWoodworks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This one I cut off about 6 inches from the end to get an uncracked section. I found this in the woods at least 6 months after it had been cut, so I got pretty lucky the cracks weren’t too bad

    Hey Ive seen how you where slightly struggling with sanding down the live edge bowl and I thought I'd just tell you a little trick I do. If you take a standing sponge and put a pice of sand paper around it allowing you to change grit it works great and is much faster and safer as the alternative it's a beautiful piece turned out great!
