wow not many channels for Mandarin learners have such a wide range of topics~ keep up the good work~
谢谢做这个视频。我知道很多人会不喜欢这个题目,但是对我有很大的帮助。上中文课的时候,我没有机会学习这样的词。
Eileen has such a direct and respectful way of asking the most private and difficult questions. I love this channel. Thank you
I have a Chinese Taiwanese background but was born in America. My parents read my diary and found out I'm a lesbian when I was a senior in hs. They did not accept me. It's been good to see fellow Asian lgbtq allies fight. I think Asian cultures are not as expressive as other cultures about this. I was moved to tears to see Taiwan take a rainbow stand. I was in disbelief as I watched queer Taiwanese people openly kiss without fear in public! This was the first time I heard such queer friendly language in Mandarin. Thanks for the inclusion
Everything is in America awful I don't like Americans culture either maybe you born you like . For me it's poison
😊😊
It is not "legal" for same sex marriages in Taiwan, it is simply not "illegal" for Taiwanese people. The difference is, if a Taiwanese finds a partner from Vietnam or Mainland China, then they can't get married. They would have to go to a country like Denmark to get married.
This was a compromise between the progressives and the conservatives in Taiwan.
It is progress, and progress is great
you parents read your diary? 🤦♀🤦♀🤦♀ what good parents you got. My Asian mom read my diary too and found out about my suicidal thoughts. I wrote about killing myself after my Asian father scold me so hard for not getting good grades. I also draw pictures of me killing myself with a knife, hanging from the ceiling, and drinking hand sanitizer and stuff lol. she panicked. I am also a lesbian and I told my mom and she expect me to be straight again someday. lol. My father is expecting me to get a husband and settle with kids cus he thought a woman's life will be fulfilled if only she settle with a husband and kids🤦♀🤦♀🤦♀ He was even writing about how he is going to lecture my future husband and stuff. They expect high grades and I did my best but they expect me to have a husband? What good parents I got. 🤦♀🤦♀🤦♀Even though I grew up with my candid Thai gay friends, I am still sad that I am not frank about my sexuality just because I come from a strict catholic family. I really feel you from my heart. Keep living on sis. Even if your parents don't accept you, just know that there are people who accept you.

Great job Eileen and Chloe. Chloe, I’m sorry you had to endure so much rejection and pressure from family. Glad you have a career and can make decisions for your life to be happy and at peace with yourself. 加油!

A lot of comments here on how important the topic is, and how inspiring it is to see Chloe talk about it, and I do wholeheartedly agree, but I would like to emphasize something else, which is actually related to the main purpose of the channel: from a purely linguistic point of view, this is really great content, and in huge part due to Chloe being such an intelligent person and capable conversationalist. I feel like her command of her native language is way beyond average, and she uses a very broad set of language "tools" to express herself. This is of great value to learners, and I hope we can see more of her in the future. And one remark: I really don't feel this is intermediate level of Chinese, I'm sure there are very few foreign learners of Chinese who can understand everything, no matter how advanced they are.
This is not only good for becoming familiar with Chinese conversation style, but also very educational and insightful! I had no idea about the concept of “sham marriages” or the changes that are happening in China because heterosexual couples cannot afford to get married and have children. This gives amazing cultural insight, I would love to see more videos like this on social topics/issues and the Chinese experience! Thankyou mandarincorner
In Chengdu it's ok, I remember many lesbians and gays there, the atmosphere was much more relaxed than in other cities, in my opinion.
That’s good. The world needs to be more progressive
It's true. Chengdu and Shanghai and some of the cities gay culture are really shocking for me as it is really open (there are many gay clubs/bars/communities). However at some cities, you have to take care of yourself as being straight is highly requested.
很棒的主题,有深度的采访!
i dont know any chinese but just from the subtitles this interview is so fascinating! i love seeing experiences from all around the world, especially the things the US doesn’t want us to see
Incredible scope of content, well worth supporting your channel. I learned so much about the Chinese society from your interviews and your walks around the cities and landscapes. I started watching when you described your life as a factory girl. Great content and well prepared.
Thank you Chloe for your courage! Also, Eileen for understanding the importance of making this video. You, two, are great women!
Everyone should be able to be happy being who they are, with who makes them happy. It seems like the biggest reason against it is people are very afraid of change and the things that challenge the social structure they are familiar with. But just like you have a right to live your life in a way that makes you happy, so does everyone else.
This was by far your best interview. Very professional on your part Eileen.( btw you look beautiful).Chloe is such a strong woman. Also thanks to her I will never forget the word “ dui “. ❤🇨🇦

Interesting video. I remember, when I was travelling in China, to see many schoolgirls in pairs, as if they were best friends (I really saw many). But sometimes it was a bit hard not to think that there was something else in their relationship. So I thought maybe lesbianism is more common in China than people think.
So many gay in China but the culture is super represed. Chengdu is a more open city. But many still are weird about it. You can even see the funny angry comments here from those nationalists who only want one view of China. I loved my 7 years in Mainland and have many gay friends there.
@@MissLizaYangonMyanmar It was just a feeling I had considering what I saw. Anyway, China is in my heart. I loved the country.
Isn't that just seeing what you want to see? It's just how schoolchildren act in Asia.
In the West, we jump to that sort of conclusion so easily that it makes same sex friendships awkward...
there are lots of gay girls in china whether they are lesbian/bisexual/pansexual girls if you want to know they really exist or not you can see them Douyin/xiaohingshu look for the hashtag #le , #le in china this is slang which means girls who like girls.
if you see a video/photo post on douyin/xiaohungshu there is the hashtag #le in that post, it means that someone is a girl who likes girls
Please see my comments on the subject, here in this platform, I am doing a research on the “Lesbian Culture in the 21st C. China”.

Good video to improve my Mandarin with real live discussion to hold the focus. Add a little comment, the issues of intimate emotion. It is a very powerful feel, for good or bad especially on issue of love. Soul mate can be created through sexual intimacy. I went through hell after a broke off for long term goodness.

I'm not learning chinese but it was a very interesting talk nonetheless!
As a gay man, whenever someone tells me the idea of two men together is perverted I reply with … why you spending all your free time thinking about two men together? 😂😂 That’s says more about what’s going on in your mind while the rest of us are thinking about our hobbies (like watching Eileen’s videos and studying Chinese!!) 😊
Another amazing interview!
How to make lesbianism boring. Actually, this isn't a story about a lesbian, it's the story about a Big Baby. Every sentence she speaks is drenched with "Poor me!" Her face shows it too. Eileen can hardly conceal her disrespect as the interview goes on. She's used to talking with Eminences like Frieda. In fact, let's bring Freida in and have her pick up in the middle (where I turned it off) and start asking pointed questions that shake up this would-be victim and make her take responsibility for her own happiness. GO FREIDA

As someone living in mainland China for the last 26 years, I don't get the point of talking about such things in public occasions like this... China is not like the US or Europe where you can talk about almost anything what you think.
Stop talking about shit, nonsense, and disgusting things, talk and make interviews about culture, scientific, and technology topics.
shit, nonsense, and disgusting things? no idea what you're talking about. are you sure you're commenting on the right video?
There's better way to say this. But I agree, I do not want to learn about this. Got enough of it in the west 😂
Who is forcing you to watch the video?
True that, no one is. But when there's a chance to see one of these videos (which are superb), I'd rather learn more useful stuff and not gender stuff.

how do i say "repent sinner" in chinese
今后少说废话
悔改 恐同者💁
I think this is a good translation: 我真是个白痴。
Wǒ zhēnshi gè báichī.
Repent sinner = 悔过自新
She saw the other girl and became obsessed with her. It became an unhealthy addiction in her life, but instead of saying 'no' to the addiction, she gave in to it. Now, 2 more Chinese men will miss out on the blessing of having wives and children, and the future generations that would have resulted are cut off forever. Very sad. And this civilization, which is dying, applauds. We are so self-obsessed. We need to focus on others and think more about the future. She needed to be counselled, not to become a lesbian.
It really is insane how it seemed maybe there were inherent cracks that then got smashed open by various foreign influences. Knew about homosexuality from anime and BL comics (which regulation has since cracked down upon), met her partner as a high schooler in a cosplay group. With her being 16 or 17 and her partner being 23 at the time, such a thing is textbook grooming. It's almost scary how thoroughly this conforms to the stereotype. I'm only halfway through the video, but if she ever hints at being abused I would almost call BS and think it's scripted.
You dont sound like a crazy bigot at all, what a lucky "woman"(imaginary) must be your wife
@CitizenOfSymphonia I don't think it's scripted. But what I find truly heartbreaking is that she started on this road because the girl she saw for the first time looked 'cool'. She was a child at the time. So, at the end of the day, the direction of her life was determined by a child (herself) who thought something she saw was 'cool'. It was like a shiny thing to certain birds. I wish that she had learned that not every desire in the human heart should instantly be pursued. (And she still can.) There are wrong desires that are to be resisted. Her desire for the other woman is wrong. It may bring temporary pleasure but In the end, it will leave her life empty and poorer. Those who disagree, let them disagree with logical arguments and not with emotional ones. And let them refute my points and not just dismiss them. But the video would be useful for language learning and I appreciate the work that went into it, as usual.
It's sad that you have such a narrow-minded and false impression of this woman's life and sexuality. There is nothing unhealthy, sad, or self-obsessed about her loving another woman. What is sad is that people like yourself are so comfortable in judging another persons life choices. If anyone needs counselling it is you I'm afraid. Please have a more open mind towards love.
Having a wife is not a human right for men
Ok, I'm tired oh hearing and reading LGBT propaganda in the west. If I'm interested in Chinesse and Russian is to escape LGBT propaganda, I'm unsubscribing this channel. Not even watching this video. Bye
🤣🤣🤣 best just kove to russia to get away from that propaganda
Bro, I'm Russian and we do not want you here either.
Agree. I am sick of these LGBT stuff.
I was joking by the way, i think the poster's comment is ridiculous. A women describing her human experiences as an LGBT person is barely propaganda
Go get drafted in Russia

Chinese society is much more inclusive than you imagine, without discrimination or opposition to homosexuality. Otherwise, this woman wouldn't naturally introduce their lives.
This kind of video and viewpoint should not be used to mislead the audience's incorrect understanding of China. In China, there is neither discrimination against homosexuals nor prohibition of any homosexual magazines, books, etc. These topics can also be openly discussed.
There is censorship of homosexuality on television though
As a Chinese and a father, I don't hold any extra discrimination against homosexuality, but I don't agree with legalizing same-sex marriage or multiple genders. I wouldn't want one day my son come back and surprise me, "Dad, I'm your daughter now."🤣
If your son is straight, why you have to worry about that shit? Also, no matter multi- gender and same gender marriage legal or not. A man can still go to hospital to do the surgery to cut his dick off and dress like a woman, you can stop nothing . I’m not pro LGBT, but pro logic
Legalizing or not. It doesn’t stop your son from telling you that she is a transgender.

I'm a lesbian and it is my dream to speak Chinese. I am really touched by how heartfelt the interview was.
Hi
Same here. This is awesome. 你好
You're not lesbian ,Actually You're not a normal woman, it means that you have a psychological problem, instead of saying I feel like I m not in the right body , work on your ideas and psychology to be adapted with your body and its physiological needs
Being in India makes it even harder for me to come out and tell people that I'm a lesbian, in addition to China. Because many nations have this issue, as I mentioned, and we cannot hold society responsible for it. As a result, they will react negatively. We should start by changing ourselves. We have to acknowledge that a same-gender relationship is about love as much as it is about lust, sex, or time passing. People who identify as LGBT are being bullied and harshed by society, and many are reluctant to identify as such in public. It ought to be modified. Please be respectful; everyone has their own life, love, and respect.

Wow. This is such a fascinating interview. I have to thank Eileen and Chloe for their time and to wish them both the best. I initially started listening only because I'm studying Chinese and wanted to try to understand a few words from native Mandarin speakers. However, I quickly became more interested in the actual content of the conversation and stopped listening. I started reading the subtitles. My takeaway: the issues that everyday people face in modern China aren't that different from the issues faced in western countries..... Now I have to listen to it again without reading the subtitles. My sincere best wishes to Chloe and Eileen.
This is such an interesting video! Thank you Chloe for sharing your experience :) I'd love to see more videos like this!
Fantastic content on modern China. You should also go to Chengu or as the scene calls it 'Gaydu'. So many cool Chinese in that city living as they please. It's my favourite city in all the years I lived in China.
