    Presumably you need to use the solution that BMW have on the Z4 (assuming that has an exterior boot release) as the key interaction side is generally looked after by the keyless module. Issue with that is if you have a boot release then it will have an antenna in the vicinity of the boot to trigger the key for the passive function which you won't have. Simpler solution would be to piggyback the interior release button as that will be an interrupt input which would wake the body controller if it was asleep & should also be disabled when the vehicle is locked. Added benefit is that it will be a logic level input so you won't be trailing 12v feeds around. Or just use the remote button, it's really not that bad to do.

    • @albonfilms
      @albonfilms  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Interestingly enough, there is a rear antenna already in place. And yeah I think getting a Z4 button and integrating that is the way to go. Just need to figure out what available pin to use in the body control module and how to code it

    The 3min thing would be a dealbreaker for me lol. Some guy here said what if you tapped into the door release button? I'm guessing that wouldn't work if the car was locked.

    • @albonfilms
      @albonfilms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly no, the door button needs the car to be unlocked and the key detected inside the car. I think with a little more digging I should be able to figure out a way to program the CANBUS system to make it work in a more secure manner.

    I was going to comment that most Arduinos can do Can-bus. But then I realised BMW does not do Can-bus anymore, it's their stupid proprietary network.
    You might still be able to listen for a key in proximity signal, just not deobfuscate it to write, but would still be enough to get it to open if the key is in proximity.

    • @albonfilms
      @albonfilms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm thinking the best option would be to find somebody with experience coding body functions on BMWs, then working with them to install an OEM trunk button into a specific CAN port and then just programming that CAN port to trigger in the OEM method. Honestly it's probably not too tough to do, just need to find somebody who knows their way around a BMW BCM/FEM.

    • @Rooey129
      @Rooey129 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@albonfilms I couldn't agree more. I highly appreciate that you didn't take the DIY dodgy approach that most youtubers do to flex their none skills.

  • @thegiantgaming7592
    @thegiantgaming7592 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    couldnt you have spliced it into your door controlls? so it basically functions the exact same way as the door button????? that way you dont have a stoopid 3m ish fuse countdown. but it just cant be opened when the alarm is on like you said how it worked when you tested it through the window.
    then unlocking en opening the trunk would be the same as you're doing right now, but being more secure???

    • @albonfilms
      @albonfilms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately no, I tried it, and the door button is completely immobilized unless the car is unlocked and the key is in the car. I mentioned it briefly but didn't show that process of trying it. Sadly with CANBUS systems, there's a lot of very specific flags that need to be set to make the buttons work.
