I think a stretchier tow rope could've helped with the build up of momentum, but as was it's impressive, and realistically if I were to invest in an electric bike I would probably want to make the most of it, with a trailer for lugging stuff, so towing capacity is relevant, good test idea
yes me too, I bought an ebike exactly for this but it cannot pull a trailer with my work gear up a hill. No problem on a flat road though. To do this you have to have a cheat ebike that is illegal but pretends to be legal with a motor that has 'peak power' of about 1000w
I wonder if you would have had more success with a rolling start? 🤔 If you had a strech of road that you could get the van moving at around 5-7mph, then see if it can could pull it. I really love the energy you guys bring ❤
That was fun to watch ... but with the van, you didn't stand a chance! First, Eilis, sweet summer child, you're only 62kg, so when you stand on the pedals, the only force you're exerting on them is gravity ... 62kg/2legs=31kg. And unfortunately, if you + the motor were actually to develop enough pulling force to pull the Transporter, the challenge would have been to put the force to the ground through the back tyre -- if you've ever tried to start a front wheel drive e-bike on greasy tarmac or tiles, you'll see the front tyre wheelspin: if the motor on the beast had kicked in, you would have experienced the same on your back wheel. Side note for K, the strap should have been attached to the frame, not the seat post -- it could have easily bent. That said, full marks for entertainment value ... TH-cam served me all of your channel one video after the other, I had a great time!
Eilis you are an absolute mad woman and I mean it in the best way! Your videos are always fun but also great at getting the info across and having met you at Fully Charged Live I can say you are such a nice person :)
Starting to move a 2T vehicle is the hardest part. I am almost sure if you get both vehicles moving (Bike and Van) you would then be able to keep moving (towing with the bike ) the van (put it to neutral) ;) . You can try that :).
With a stretchy recovery rope, like Matt's Off-Road Recovery Rope, and some training wheels bolted on, Eilis could have definitely pulled the van by herself. Seth from Seth's Bike Hacks did it!
London is very flat. How about taking some bikes into the Derbyshire Dales where there are a few 1-in-6 hills that I regularly cycled up in my teens on my Saturday long rides (100 miles +) into the Derbyshire countryside. With the opportunities for regen, I wondered how far an electric bike could travel.
Our plan is to go further afield! We're trying to rally together an electric crew vehicle to get us around so hopefully this isn't too hard to do in the near future!
@@Electroheads you're very welcome to come and visit Shrewsbury, not only is there a great cycling community, but also ... WE GOT HILLS! I'll be happy to provide coffee and sustenance for the crew ...
I have a more serious question for the upcoming test: what could happen if you are above the 120kg max load? I mean the bike has 30kg, so only 90kg left. If I transport my child I would reach a total of 135kg. What is the limiting factor? The frame or the brakes? Thank for your support
Great video and a lot of fun but I have to put my boring engineer's hat on: I think to really generate a decent amount of towing force you need a mid-drive motor and some seriously low gears. So, an e-MTB basically. As it is, that hub motor is not getting its torque multiplied. It's probably only exerting a force of around 210N at the tyre, which is (probably)* only about the same again as what Eilish is getting putting her full weight onto the pedals. The other thing that would help is clipless pedals, but then you would also need either a third wheel or some elbow pads 🙂 *I can show my working if you insist, but I figured nobody cares :-)
Every video better than the previous. I like it how you guys come up with new ideas to promote sustainable travel (and your products). I know the guys were cheating pushing the van, but Eilis' victory reaction was absolutely worth it!
They literally asked me to work for them for free. Then when I said no they started copying stuff I do on my channel. Scummy channel with no imagination of their own.
WHat a stupid test. I can even pull 6 people on chairs on a good bike with gears, without even a motor, but pure on leg power. The fact that your college can pull 3 with motor does say nothing about the motor. Well i had some laughs watching, thats also importante. Have a nice weekend
Don’t have to worry never ending supply of stupidity, common sense is becoming less common, song for the video = Hold on tight = Electric Light Orchestra.

How about trying adding a throttle control, on this or a different bike? :D

Very sweet to see you in uninhibited action in a different scenario, good to see how you manage the situation. Great close ups of the action.

So safe to say if it can pull 3 ppl it would be ok for a 140kg rider
I'm 6'2" 120kg and a 250w motor is my favourite and I've tried them all .Lighter power to weight ratio 💪 🤟🤠🇬🇧

Use a dynamic rope next time and watch the magic happen

@@Electroheads should I test my Tern gsd 85nM motor? 😆
Extreme idea: recreate the Mission Impossible/Tom Cruise stunt riding off the cliff but scale it down so the rider lands in a swimming pool.
I nominate Kol for this 😂
I SO enjoyed this video! E-bikes are fun as well as sensible, and these kind of videos point out the fun. Thx, ElectroHeads!

Love an engineer's perspective as it is so NOT mine 😂 really interesting to read and one to keep in mind
You need a kinetic energy rope so you can get started and the rope do the heavy lifting
Poor Eilis! Pranked into thinking she towed a van. Someone owes her a free lunch of her choice. 😊
Such a cheeky bunch! I really thought I had it

Should have tried it with and without motor assist 😁
