How To Make A Shower Floor White Clean Again With Oven Cleaner

  • If you are a landlord or live in a college dorm you will likely experience a super nasty shower or tub floor at some point. Floors this dirty looking are no match for normal cleaning solutions and may seem like a complete loss. Hopefully this video showing how I cleaned a "non-cleanable" shower floor with oven cleaner will help salvage some nasty shower floors out there.

    Surprisingly oven cleaner works surprisingly well to make dirty black shower floors clean and white again. In this video I show how I spray an entire can of oven cleaner on a dirty shower floor and let it soak for several hours. I then scrub the floor with an abrasive pad and brush and the shower cleans to an almost new appearance.
    Note: This shower floor is fiberglass base. Oven cleaner is potent stuff (strongly alkaline) that may react differently with other materials. It is wise to wear skin and eye protection and make sure the area is vented extremely well.

    One thing I'd like to add. If you boil water and pour it over the tub AFTER letting the Easy Off do it's stuff, the dirt seems to come up much easier. At least it did for me.

    THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Just amazing! I have a textured fiberglass floor stall shower. I've lived here for 15 years and little by little that floor has gotten darker and darker and nothing has worked to bring it back to it's original white brightness. I've used Comet with little success. A little bit better when I used FSR (Fiberglass Stain Remover). Today I decided to try your suggestion. I still can't get over it. I sprayed the Easy-Off Fume Free Oven Cleaner pretty heavily over half the floor. I let it sit for more than two hours. Then I used a scrubber sponge and 'every' bit of that darkness came off with a little elbow grease. I rinsed it clean and that half is now sparkling white. I'll do the other half tomorrow but, I'm sure it will turn out the same. It may be a little thing to some but, I can't thank you enough for turning back the years on my master bath shower stall.

    All I can say is WOW..................I purchased 1 can of the Oven Cleaner just to test it out. I sprayed the entire can on the shower floor and I had coated the floor very well. The next day I started scrubbing and what a surprise all that scum and dirt was starting to lift!!!! I was so excited and amazed after all the cleaning solutions that I've purchased this was the only thing that actually worked. I went back to the store to purchase another can and decided to purchase the no name brand, started the same process but it didn't work the same. The rest of the dirt and scum did not lift ...........I will be going back to the store to purchase the name brand!!!!!! This was an excellent tip for 2016!!!!!!

    I tried this on an enameled cast iron bathtub after watching a different youtube video. The person who posted said to make sure you use the blue can Easy Off and to use Mr. Clean magic erasers. I sprayed the tub and let it set for 15-20 minutes and then scrubbed up years of grime. Also, household vinegar works great on water stained shower doors. Spray it, let it sit for 20-30 minutes and use a straight edge razor to scrape off the soap scum. I'd recommend gloves and good ventilation on this one.

    Oh my gosh! I'm so thankful that I came across this video. I used an off-brand because that's all I could find. I sprayed it and let it set for about 2.5 hours. I tried the hot water like another commenter suggested. As soon as I poured the hot water over it, the gunk and grime started to come off. I did that about 3 more times before I actually had to scrub very lightly. I must admit I was a little skeptical about whether this would really work but I'm glad I gave it a try.

    I was a little skeptical at first, but this method is the bomb! I tried CLR, Kaboom, cleanser, scrub pads, etc. None of these things worked. I sprayed on the Easy-Off, let it set for about 3 hours, and took the hand-held shower head to rinse it down. I was amazed to see years of grime start peeling away! It didn't take much scrubbing with the Magic eraser to get it looking like new. Thank you so much for the tip!

    This is AMAZING! When I bought my house the tub was dingy in the bottom. I have tried EVERYTHING to clean it. I finally went online and came across this video. I tried it last night. I sprayed down the tub floor with Easy Off and scrubbed it a little. I then re-sprayed the tub floor and tub walls and let it sit in the tub overnight. This morning I rinsed out the tub and it looks great! Thank you for this little tip. I will be sharing it with my friends.

    I'm usually skeptical of these supposedly incredible methods of cleaning. But, having tried many other methods before to clean the shower floor with no luck, I went ahead and gave it a try. It really did work. While my floor was not as bad as the one featured, it was bad. I followed the directions for oven cleaning on the can of Easy-Off Fume Free Oven Cleaner, covering the area and waiting a minimum of two hours. Using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, I rubbed the shower floor and rinsed. What a difference!. I didn't get it all off on the first try, probably not rubbing evenly, but doing it again a second time it now has that almost brand new look. This worked.

    Outstanding tip, thank you!!! Lysol did not work, 409 did not work, Ajax did not work, Foaming Kaboom with oxyclean did not work, foaming Zep did not work!
    I was almost ready to throw down some baking soda, boil some towels, mix and microwave some vinegar and dish soap, and then use elbow grease on the scum!
    I larded on the Easy-Off Oven Cleaner (Fume free, lemon scent, blue can, purchased at CVS), and let it sit for 2 hours, and it worked a TREAT! I wiped (not even scrubbed) the floor and the scum came right off! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

      Funny how you say "can't believe people let it get to that state" when I clean my bathtub at least once every few days, if not sooner, and it still has that crap on it! Finally a solution to the problem I have had for years. I had tried even Comet cleaner without any luck. I sprayed it on just like said to do. The only problem I had was unexpected. My wife in her despiration to clean the stain had pour peroxide over the area. The gas coming off the Oven Cleaner and the Peroxide was dangerous and took my breath that I had to leave the room to breath.. Anyway. I left all it on over night to allow it to work and the gas from the peroxide vented out. Thanks again. I shared it to others on Facebook.

      That's what I was thinking. I saw a video, or read an article once, that said we often press too hard when using a scrub brush. When we do, the bristles bend and slide over the top of the surface, instead of digging into the dirt like they should.
      Seeing that pebbly surface, I figured it was fiberglass rather than porcelain, and thought of a scrub brush too.

    Ok, just tried this. AMAZING. I was prepared to spend 6 hours scrubbing like I have in the past and it still didn't get it white. I just took a damp cloth and wiped off. Great hack!

    WD-40 works the best to wipe off soap scum. Afterwards, wipe it down with simple green or 409 spray cleaner to get rid of the oily residue

    • @opentrunk
      @opentrunk ปีที่แล้ว

      I had to try your WD-40 idea just because it was so unusual.
      It didn't do anything except put a shine on the scum.

      Depending on the material of your shower, some ap cleaner and a razor blade works really well. The soap scum scrapes off the wall like I was scraping a bar of soap.

    If you let it sit 5-10 minutes you don't have to scrub that hard and it will come right off.

    Bonus points for rubbing it with a dryer sheet afterwards. Prevents buildup from forming as quickly next time. Melamine sponges work, too.

  • @cfranco018

    didn't think it would work...used 1 entire can in one cleaning...sprayed whole can let sit for 1 hour..scrubbed with target brand magic pad.....15 mind later with 2 people scrubbing..Frick'in BOOM NEW CLEAN TUB!!!!
    tub is about 30 years old... still work!!
    thumbs up!!!

    • @Steveorino123
      @Steveorino123 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      cfranco018 - have you ever read up on those magic pads? What they are is a foam pad made from the plastic Melamine, like in those plastic plates. How the pads clean is by abrasion. The melamine fibers in the pads act as a micro-abrading particle. So they basically just "sand" the dirt film off. You could have used an industrial grade or coarse green scrub bad and done the whole job in 30 minutes with one person instead of going the "magic" route. That's my opinion. I'm assuming you are talking about a porcelain bathtub, not plastic or fiberglass. A coarse scotchbright pad would scratch the heck out of plastic.

    This worked great. Another cause of this is poor drainage. The water doesn’t get out quick enough and it stains the tub. Grab some drain-no or something to clear the drain.

    Tried this on an old pan and it didn't work, as a matter of fact I left the cleaner on for awhile and found that it actually softened the pan. This may work for dirt and grime but on hard water stains and calcium sorry to say it's a no go.
