This video was exactly what I needed! I have bought an air bush kit….like a couple of years ago….and have never used it. I’ve been so intimidated by it and have not really even taken it out of the box. This video has actually made me feel so much more comfortable with getting started. Thank you for breaking it down and making it way less intimidating.

Glad to hear!!! We were exactly the same lol. Kept it in the box for ages.

Wow! Just starting out myself and the tips were great! Who knew! Reg house paint! Wow, I didn't know about the different air pressures, I always thought it was either on or off! Lol. I wonder if Meredith would answer a question or anyone else for that matter. Sometimes when I am airbrushing I get no paint as soon as I start to release, I get paint. Come to Corpus and school me! Lol

How I thin down my craft store acrylics is I want my paint transparent but not runny. Thinning down airbrush paint is an art all in itself. Tap water will do in a pinch but there's much better things to thin your paint. Windshield washer fluid works great. I also found a homebrew acrylic thinner that I really like on Commando designs TH-cam page.

I disagree with using distilled water instead of regular tap water.
I do water sampling/water care as part of my job.
Minerals don't break down the materials that are holding the water. A lack of minerals in water (also known as soft water) is what causes corrosion (along with water acidity). It's a similar principal to air pressure. If the water isn't hard enough (a lack of minerals), the surrounding materials bread down and those particles are released into the "soft" water.
"Hard" water has the opposite effect. It deposits minerals onto the material that is holding the water.
Distilled water, also known as demineralised water, is a "soft" water, making it more likely to corrode airbrushes than regular tap water.
According to some sources, bottled distilled water has a neutral pH level of 7 (neither acidic or a base), but once the bottle is opened, it begins absorbing the air and it becomes slightly acidic. -I can't reliably verify those claims, yet, because I haven't done the tests yet.
All that aside, we're not storing water in the airbrush, so either type of water will likely be just fine.
I've been using airbrushes for decades. Damage to airbrushes seems to mostly come from general wear and poor cleaning techniques. Personally, I'm very meticulous with cleaning my airbrushes. I have special tiny bottle brushes. I also use purpose-made thinners and cleaners for my expensive dual-action airbrush. If I've been using water-based paint, I'll use filtered tap water for my cheap single-action airbrushes.

Probably depends a lot on where you live and the hardness/quality of your water. Here in Texas everyone needs big water softeners because the water is incredibly hard and filled with minerals. There are no cleaning chemicals I’m aware of that can clean the calcification off of our sinks/shower hardware/etc so I expect the same thing would happen to our airbrush over time.
