- In this follow-up to our first video on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) response to Hurricane Helene, we provide a behind the scenes look at the ongoing debris removal operations at Claytor Lake in Southwest Virginia.
Since recovery vessels launched nearly 3.5 weeks ago, crews have removed approximately 12,000 cubic yards (equivalent to 3,500 tons) of debris material from the lake.
Hear from Fred Furney (PRT Mission Manager), Timothy Stein (Quality Assurance Supervisor), Dorie Murphy (Chief of Emergency Operations), and CPT Benjamin Gillard (USACE Norfolk District Operations Officer) as they share insights into the mission. Learn how USACE and its partners are working to safeguard hydropower infrastructure, maintain water quality, and support recreational use, all while prioritizing safety and the community's recovery efforts.
