    Anima is my favourite summon in any FF. I remember being terrified of her and then going mad with power when I finally unlocked her.

      That summon was so op and made you feel like an untouchable badass when you summoned her.

    Always loved Anima for how creepy and messed up it is. It also plays a role in the plot of FFXIV Endwalker and shows up as a dungeon boss.

    Anima is actually reference to “Anima Sola”, (the suffering woman), which is a Catholic concept concerning the purification of the soul pursuing Purgatory and the pain entailed.
    en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anima_Sola
    In Dante’s Purgatario, souls transverse a wall of flame on their way to Heaven.

    Anima is shackled, animus free. Anima seems in anguish, Animus in rage.

    I hope they bring Anima back in future FF games.

      She was used by Seymour to betray spira and likely ended up being used by yuna to end her own son.
      As useful as her summon is, I think she deserves some peace.

    No way, there's definitely several real world lore and inspo that went into Anima. From when I first saw it when the game came out, there is this feeling of familiarity to it, I just can't pin point where from. It reminds me a lot of retro monster movie posters, specially sea creatures.

    Damn good symbolism. We don't even have to look to antiquity for the answers to reality, we're telling the story as it unfolds.

    I’ve played ffx a long time ago but I don’t think I ever did learned about anima’s lore. This is very cool.

    Anima has a very Catholic asthetic to me. From the obvious Christian saint looking token around the neck to the demonic appearance to the wraps and chains symbolizing restrained and repentance. It also exists in purgatory/hellish plain.

      Yeah, that card on its necklace always looked like some kind of effigy of the Virgin Mary, which was absolutely terrifying to me as a Protestant child in the US south. You don't see those things often, and you're taught that they're ungodly idolatry. It really amped up the awe Anima instilled in me

      The pendant around her neck is actually Seymour’s mother.

    Anima is also so powerful because it’s a final Aeon.

    • @frankwest5388
      @frankwest5388 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Summoning a final Aeon always kills the summoner and until … certain events Seymour was alive.
      Maybe it was a failed one because the love between mother and son was one sided?
      We know that the true purpose behind the pilgrimage is for the summoner and guardian to forge an unbreakable bond, the strength of that connection is then what gives the final Aeon it’s power.
      Which would honestly be even more sad

    • @ItsSVO
      @ItsSVO ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@frankwest5388 defeating sin via the final summoning is what kills the summoner because Yu Yevon takes over the Aeon and severing the tether between the summoner and the Aeon which is what actually kills them.
      Seymour never defeated sin with the final Aeon after acquiring it which is why he’s alive and also why he is able to summon the final Aeon Anima.

      Although Anima is actually weaker at this point of the story because her bond with Seymour has strained over the years, having said that shes still crazy strong just not 'defeat sin" strong

    She always reminded me of a clam or a scallop, perhaps alluding to her location in the submerged ruins of Baaj Temple.

    so she is a final aeon so how did anima get its own temple? and was seymour the one that destroy the place?

    • @serphv6531
      @serphv6531 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      She is Seymour's Final Aeon yes, she doesnt have her own temple seymour moved her fayth from Zanarkand to Baaj temple, as far as who destroyed Baaj, it was said the Sin destroyed it, but its possible Seymour destroyed it himself and blamed it on Sin.

  • @dervakommtvonhinten517

    i like a fan theory more.
    his mother sacrificed himself, hoping he would use her to defeat sin as a final aeon to gain acceptance even as a halfblood.
    but he didnt want to do that, so instead of using her as a final aeon, he took her to baaj temple. but since she is a final aeon, she is too powerful. so she needed to be chained to be controlled. thats why she is so powerful with just one eye.
