True. It was meant to be more in line with "The Brady Bunch" and "Beverly Hillbillies" spoof movies. They couldn't get away with it for Scooby Doo because it was a cartoon that was still popular with kids at the time.
lol The reason why they chose a more attractive actress is because many folks developed a fetish for Velma over the years. I truly believe that the casting of Linda Cardellini was made with intention.

I don't know about others, but I remember seeing the deleted scenes on the VHS when I was little. I don't know if it was an extra at the end or what, but I saw them as a young kid. I'm actually really surprised my parents let us watch the movie so much, considering they were a little strict in some ways. But then again, I did watch South Park with my dad, so I guess they figured it would just go over our heads (and it all did)
It's a real shame that they had to delete this scene from the film, but parents really weren't that pleased that their children were watching women dancing around in their underwear. Because this scene isn't in, the fact that Velma is possessed pretty much comes out of nowhere. I know people can conclude that Velma would be possessed because Fred was, but it still just pops up without any build-up.
Also, when Shaggy and Scooby were talking to possessed Fred they heard a noise but they never explained what it was. Apparently it was possessed Velma screaming
It looked like Daphne was coldly trapping them to their deaths before I realized the other girls were possessed too. I was thinking this is much darker than I remember.
Had they left this scene in, a little bit could have been added to the ending, where Daphne drags Velma out to the beach in a bikini, whether she likes it or not: "Are you SURE you saw me wear this thing?" "Oh, no, you don't: you want some attention, you're gonna get it! Now take off those glasses and strut your stuff!"
Crazy they deleted the Dalphine and Velma kiss in the movie where the only way to get their 'souls' back in their body was to kiss. And originally when the film was suppose to be darker - they both had a side relationship.

Linda Cardellini acted well in this scene, she was scary from 0:26 to the end of the clip, I could see her acting as a possessed person in a horror movie XD
They showed the little dance Velma did in the trailer and I was really curious to see what she was doing, because Velma never seemed the type to dance around a bikini. I was disappointed to find out it wasn't there, but then I saw this scene and I see why it was cut out. It was creepy, but we could've had an uncut version where they kept it. They should've also kept "Daphne's Spirit Thingy" it would've explained Shaggy knowing about Daphne being possessed. I'm sure he would've left right after he saved Fred, since he had no way of knowing Daphne had been captured and I liked how they showed how the students got possessed. But I suppose they were cut for time and they were too disturbing for younger audiences. I was about seven when the film came out and those scenes would've traumatised me or made it hard for me to sleep at night for a while.
Instead they kept the scene where the girl was hit in the face with a tree branch and she did that cartoony thing to extend her face and pop it back in....Was that NOT scary?
The movie was originally intended to be a PG-13 parody of the series but was edited into a family feature at the last minute after a change of executives at Warner Bros.
When I first heard Velma scream in the video, it actually scared me a little, but that was just because I had my volume set to max for some stupid reason.
It was written by James Gunn (Guardians of The Galaxy) and was supposed to be an R-rated comedy, closer in tone to something like Evil Dead or even 21 Jump Street. But thanks to executive meddling, we got a PG family movie with some slightly creepy undertones.
