Her attitude here is exactly the opposite of helpful. Her victim states is under attack so she flails about like an indignant teen. If were gonna talk about "women's issues" then we can talk about "men's issues". That's completely separate from her (largely unfounded claim) that women's representation in political office is too low. Women are free to run for office. Still imagine if it was the other way around there would be cries of misogyny and sexism No it's not in their manifesto but it's an issue that needs to be discussed not laughed at Not to mention she said she was uninterested in discussing it unless there was 5050 representation in parliament?? How the hell is that supposed to happen?
@intempify So if it's not the manifesto it can't be discussed right? I'm American so I don't fully understand British politics but that sounds Wrong to me I think a bill or proposal can be discussed regardless of a manifesto. Also you've seen the clip you know what that despicable woman said You can frame it however you want to support your narrative but in your heart you know the truth. I honestly can't believe I have to point out that it's wrong to be defending somebody who laughs at suicide and cancer...
@intempify Obviously we disagree but I do appreciate the dialog I think it's important that There's a discussion between Opposing views. I also thank you for being civil.
That is an absolutely embarrassing reaction from a politician. Imagine if a male politician laughed at another MP raising the issue of female rights or the promotion of International Women’s Day. It just wouldn’t happen, and if it did, that man would never work in politics again. The fact a woman can respond to this matter in such a way and still keep her position suggests that women in Britain actually have it better than men.
intempify as Philip Davies mentioned, there are monthly ‘Women & equality’ questions which have no male equivalent, International Women’s Day is given far more acknowledgement and debate than International Men’s Day, and men’s issues are rarely discussed in the House of Commons. Regardless of that, imagine the widespread condemnation a male MP would (rightly) face if he was seen to burst out laughing at the suggestion that MPs should be allowed to debate gender issues such as domestic violence, suicide and premature mortality rates. Suicide is a male issue. Men are more likely to die of cancer before the age of 65 than women. Men are more likely to be murdered. There are currently no strategies in place to assist male victims of domestic abuse. If these issues aren’t worthy of at least being discussed then something is very wrong. Jess Phillips, in my view wrongly, saw this as an opportunity to bemoan the lack of female representation in the Houses of Parliament. That’s a separate issue, but maybe if more women stood to become MPs there wouldn’t be such an imbalance. Parliament have run campaigns such as #AskHerToStand event, had female-only open days at the Houses of Parliament to encourage women to stand. When women do become MPs, as we’ve seen with Theresa May, there is no ‘glass ceiling’ preventing them from progress. Women simply are choosing not to get into politics.
intempify as I said, that lack of parity in representation *is* being addressed - events and campaigns have been put in place designed to encourage women into politics. But that’s an entirely separate issue! As Davies said, there is currently no forum devoted to raising male issues. So because there are more male MPs than female that means male issues don’t need to be discussed? Wtf kind of moon logic is that...
So such things as Suicide being the biggest cause of death in men under 45 Deaths in the workplace being ten time higher in men than women The need for prostate screening at a younger age Lack of funding for early intervention to prevent gang culture Lack of justice for fathers following marital breakdown Are unimportant and can simply be dropped in anywhere during commons time when there will probably be twenty MPs listening whereas women's issues should have time set aside?. Where is the equality in that? There is more time set aside for discussing trans issues
@intempify '...Men don’t care about other men apparently...' So there is no such thing as 'male privilege' or the 'patriarchy'? At last you've grasped the fraud of feminism. Men have always prioritized women who are the most privileged class.

The fact that this vile woman is a mother of young boys makes me sick to my stomach. What kind of future are they going to have when she laughs over the problems they will face as young men? What a revolting person.
Of course there is parity. A woman can stand as an MP in any constituency in the land. The fact that there aren't as many in parliament as there are men suggests that either A: Not as many women are standing for seats. or B: Not as many people are voting for them. There is nobody to blame for this, it's down to freedom of choice in each case.
@intempify Its like saying "The majority of the MPs are humans, how is the opportunity to talk about depression limited?" --- The opportunity is there only if there are any people interested to talk about depression and if the society accepts debates about depression and takes them seriously.
I think the sound got a little messed up during the clip, based on what little I can hear before 2:00 and based on context, it sounds like she said "it's not that I don't care about men's issues". Though I do agree that based on her laughing and her fighting against men's issues being brought up in the first place is hypocritical to what she says later on.
I have lost 2 brothers and 3 friends over the last 3 decades to suicide. Everyone I know, seems to know someone that has committed suicide also. Everyone of these suicides are males under the age of 50. I realise women also commit suicide, but it thankfully is far rarer. Clearly there is a big problem in society when men are taking their own lives at such an alarming rate. And what does this woman do,she laughs, and spouts nonsense about women not getting positions of power. Isn't the prime minister a female? Feminism has had its day. Let's just get on with the real issues going on in the world shall we.
I'm a feminist but she doesn't speak for me. I am fully aware that modern feminazis are no longer about equality of opportunity they are about equality of outcome, power grabbing and demonising men. It is mostly working class men who suffer, they don't have the 'privileges' of the rich establishment figures that Jess Philips is so clearly lumping them in with. I love men, they are the backbone of our society, our dads husbands and sons and I hate the idea they are suffering so much because they are literally being blamed and shamed for every ill in the world and it's not right. It is well worth debating in Parliament. Jess Philips is representative of a Labour Party I no longer recognise.

If ppl don't vote for them, that's not an injustice.
She's an 'equality of outcome based on ideology' type, rather than a principled public servant or stateswomen.
A lot of respect for that guy who stood up for men
Even more Respect for Sargon of Akkad for taking a stand against her hate and bigotry.

She is in a safe labour seat and either a female only selection or a rigged selection process. She wont be there on her own policies and convictions.
people don't vote for individuals they vote for parties, for the most part, people don't know who is standing for that party.

The Daily Mail have conveniently skipped the long list of issues Philip Davies raised & Jess Phillip's continued sniggering. This is a classic example of selective editing by the biased left wing media.
The media are the scum too.
I like how the description says "online trolls" rather than "rational, sane people who don't think someone like this should have any level of political power". But that's what you get when feminism permeates the majority of news outlets now I guess.

"I am the only woman on this committee" & how well did "she" conduct herself? If that is the way women act in any kind of Parliamentary role, then women should not be part of it (& I am a woman)! that seems to be the trend. It gets popular, it makes money, it doesn't stop once it achieves its goal, it destroys that aspect of society.
What a disgusting human being I fully support what Sargon said. In fact I don't think anyone would
@intempify You might be able to make case that she wasn't laughing "directly" at male suicide rates Even so she was laughing at the idea of Male issues being addressed which indirectly happens to be the suicide rates brought up.
but either wsy she obviously doesn't care About the man in her country in which she was elected to represent.
And don't try to Say that I only want men's Issues discussed, I want everyone's issues discussed regard less of gender religion race ect.. The fact that she doesn't care about a particular group of people based on one of those qualifiers is disturbing and disgusting
@intempify Sure they can bring it in to be discussed but Jess and those in her circle are just going to laugh at down every time And make light of it.
She's not human.
"When she apologises for laughing at male suicide, I will apologise for my tweet."

Wtf kind of moon logic is that...
intempify these issues are worthy of having their own dedicated time slot and questions, as female issues are.
So such things as
Suicide being the biggest cause of death in men under 45
Deaths in the workplace being ten time higher in men than women
The need for prostate screening at a younger age
Lack of funding for early intervention to prevent gang culture
Lack of justice for fathers following marital breakdown
Are unimportant and can simply be dropped in anywhere during commons time when there will probably be twenty MPs listening whereas women's issues should have time set aside?.
Jess Phillips claims to be working class - her mother was a deputy chief executive in the NHS and her father a teacher. So probably coining about a £100 grand a year. Aye pet - 'working on the site from morning till night, thats living alright'

Jess Philips: I don’t have “Parity”, so you don’t get a say.
And ClownWorld sails on through the night.
honk
Of course there is parity. A woman can stand as an MP in any constituency in the land. The fact that there aren't as many in parliament as there are men suggests that either
A: Not as many women are standing for seats.
or
B: Not as many people are voting for them.
There is nobody to blame for this, it's down to freedom of choice in each case.

Now I totally understand why Carl said what he did. A vile attitude exhibited here by Phillips.
@intempify Its like saying "The majority of the MPs are humans, how is the opportunity to talk about depression limited?" --- The opportunity is there only if there are any people interested to talk about depression and if the society accepts debates about depression and takes them seriously.

Ypu misheard her, she said it's not as if I dont care about mens issues and then she said I absolutely cares about mens issues.

She is a prime example of everything that is wrong with BRITISH politics.
Not just politics but society as a whole..
