Everyone has praised this game saying it's the best Sly game ever made and here comes your review, saying that it's mediocre and giving it a lower rating than Sly 1. Congrats sir you have left me absolutely gobsmacked. This doesn't mean I'm going to dislike this video, It still gets a like from me.
The big reveal of Neyla being the main villain isn't just brought out of nowhere since they foreshadow this throughout the game up to that point, the main point of this is to show that the Cooper Gang aren't the best and sometimes make mistakes but can rise back to the top after all that.
The whole point of it isn't to just get people shocked from Neyla being the villain herself but from the fact that the Cooper Gang are arrested for the first time since this has never happened before, that and Carmelita who up to this point has always been after the gang is now under arrest as well which makes you feel sympathetic towards her as well as giving some screen time for Bentley to grow as a character.
You literally complain that you spend too much time in the levels (you know, because why else would the developers put so much work into them?) and that there's too many guards (almost as if the klaww gang doesn't want you to fuck up their operations)
So you've just roasted my favorite game of all time and called it medicore. I guess this is the part where I get triggered and act like an angry little fanboy who can't accept different opinions. Jokes aside, while I don't agree with most of your criticism, I can totally see why you would dislike certain aspects of the game. It's always nice to see a point of view different than yours. I find out about your channel after your Sly 1 review and after watching some of your other videos you earned my sub. Keep up the good work.
I think in Jak's case, it's just that he's played a lot of games so he's going to have certain opinions on some games that are believed with the gameplay and it's not wrong really. He did make some fair points but like you, Sly 2 is still my favorite despite a few nitpicks. I just wished I played the game back when it initially came out in 2004 lol
Some of your criticisms sounded as if they were against stealth games in general. Enemies need to be overpowered in stealth games, otherwise what would motivate you to avoid them? It's the reason I play Splinter Cell and Socom at the highest difficulty the first time.
I think another thing to consider is that perhaps the reason why Jak felt a bit overwhelmed with the guards is because it was his first time playing the game. When I first played the game, it took a while for me to adjust to avoid running into full on assaults with the big guards, especially in Rajan's level. I think I look at the game differently because I've replayed it so many times and it's like muscle memory where I know how to avoid certain situations that'll get me thrown into a fight.
As someone who played this through the PS3 HD collection, I always liked it better than the first, in the sense that playing as all three Cooper Gang members gave gameplay variety and they all had proper health bars instead of lousy one hit deaths.

Every complaint you have sounds like you just want to play the game a certain way when it was designed to be played a different way. Rather than adapting to the game and how it works, you just keep trying to play the same way that's not working for you, and expecting different results. Of course the flashlight guards are tough, that's the point of them. Sly is a limber, stealthy guy. Of course he is going to have trouble against them because he isn't meant to fight them head on. Of course Bentley sucks at hand to hand combat, he is brains, a weak little guy. That's why he has gadgets to help him put guards to sleep, shrink them, or even the odds. Of course Murray and Bentley have trouble navigating the levels the way Sly does, because that's the whole point of Sly, that's his thing, that's what he does. It wouldn't make sense for Bentley and Murray to be able to do something similar. I think any "limitations" to the characters were brought in with good taste and differing character design, not because of a flawed game design. All these complaints you have sound similar to someone saying that some fighting game sucks because they can't win against their opponents, but that person is just spamming the same move over and over again, and expecting to win. If you didn't like the music or art style, that's completely subjective there, so I can't say much against that other than I disagree and that I enjoyed it a ton.

Wow........didn't quite expect that reaction. Personally, I've always liked this game and I occasionally run through it every now and then. I will say that I think Sly 1 is more stylistically pleasing to me, though, but Sly 2 was also pretty cool for what it was doing. Now I'm both curious about and dreading your opinions on Sly 3.
I loved the Contessa stage, well at least the art design of it but if you take a look at my channel, it's probably not surprising lol But I hated the tank mini game, that shit was horrible -_-

I played this game so much when I was a child and the way that the game is so open and often hard aswell‚ it made me a fast learning gamer that I am today I learn how to play every game often faster than others all because of Sly 2 :)

I strongly disagree with You Jack, I've played all 4 Sly games in past month and i find all the "weak" spots of the game you talked about in this video as the pluses of gameplay. I'll just point them out for You ok? So: 1) The so called "miniboss'es everywhere are actually a good thing becouse they make you think how to get pass them and since you play as Sly 80% of time it's no problem for You. Truth told You want to counter them ONLY if they have a treasure but still You can do that without fighting them. AND it's even easier as bentley but i think that was introduced in Sly 3 when he becomes cripple on the wheels ;p 2) Maps are mainly designed for Sly but to be fair when You have to play as Bentley or Murray You do that only to get into mission which is designed for them. Every other time You just use Sly for grinding money and dont give a fuck about "minibosses" or corridors not prepared for all the characters. 3) I agree the levels are too dark but that was repaired in HD remaster :) 4) I agree about the repetitivity of levels but hey, thay wanted to make that feeling of cartoon episodes which are all made on the same sceleton of script (like inspector gadget, chip and daile etc.) which works for me since You get new abillities every level :) 5 ) When it comes to story telling than maaan, Constable the treator was awesome and the SAD ENDING was just amazing. I was like WTF when Bentley got smashed by a clockwerse. It crushed my mind how sucker punch resolved his dissadvantage in Sly3 making him losing his legs his ADVANTAGE. Now ... sorry for any grammar mistakes i made, my english is rusty but i think You will get my point here. Most of this is opinion so I'll just say that my biggest issue with Neyla was that she just come out of nowhere and all of the story related moments around her just felt really odd and out of place for me. I'm sorry jak but this review was terrible. You were complaining about everyone being minibosses, thats because its a STEALTH game, your not supposed to fight them head on

Spyro, Hunter, and James Bird watched as Jak began an elegant ballet-style dance, prancing around majestically. Then, he aimed the staff at the ground, and a giant burst of fire struck it, creating an enormous crater. There was a moment of silence, and then suddenly, a creature began to climb out. It had two large wings, a jetpack, antenna, and a beak tipped with lipstick. "Mom?" Sg Bird asked. "Sparx?" Spyro did the same. "Spyrrrrrrrooooo... what has happened to... MEEEEEE" The voice alternated from Sparx's buzzy annoying tone, to a high pitched female cry. Spyro and co stared at the creature, unable to speak, or move. I don't usually listen to reviews, but your reviews are different, u tell ur honest opinon, you don't say what people want u to say about the games, and thats why I rate u and u make the reviews fun which other reviewers lack.
I remember even as a kid, Chapters 4 & 5 were a pain to navigate because of how dark the levels were, especially if you're playing the game on an old CRT TV. Which makes me very glad that the PS3 Port of the game from the HD Collection fixes the lighting issues.

I see a lot of loopholes in your reasons 1st you said earlier that sly is used to avoid detection yet next you say that the guards are everywhere that's the point it's a stealth game that's the point of the genre to avoid detection Murray is used to slam through guards and Bentley is used as demolitions and remote controlled technology experts Bentley can use his bombs as a trap for guards as he runs away Bentley isn't supposed to be looking for a fight secondly the point of the scouting missions is to become aware of your surroundings there is something called steakouts theives use these to plan out their attack bentleys matrix shooter mission began in the 1st contessa stage I believe that Bentleys hacking is only in the 1st contessa stage and the second Jean bison stage and the helicopter shoot part of the final battle is simple shoot clock-la's ring once and the electrical field is disabled

The HD port has much better contrast, making it much easier seeing despite it being so dark. The PS2 version is awful though, I can barely play it due to how dark it is.

This is one of my favourite game series of all time and I've only seen positive reviews, so finally seeing someone who says the game isn't anything special is defenetly interesting. I will say that the problems you had with this game will be different from the third, since it has way different athmosphere. Anyways nice review, very good editing aswell. Keep up the great work!

While I don't agree with your opinion of this game (this is one of my favorites and my brother's favorite games ever) I think this review was very well edited. I like the whole binoculars thing.
Also the contessa levels are my favorite. I love the atmosphere and some of the missions are really fun. I like the idea that you actually have to save your team.

I can't believe Rockstar allowed you to use Red Dead Redemption 2 footage as your intro! It hasn't even been released yet! But jokes aside, it's refreshing to hear a unique perspective considering the majority of the reviewers consider this the best instalment. It's one of the reasons why this channel is one of my favourites on TH-cam just for how much it differs from the usual consensus when it comes to gaming, even if I disagree with it sometimes. Quick question, while I was playing this game, I had an annoying glitch where when I was doing the circle stealth moves, Sly would lock onto the complete wrong object. For example, in the jungle level, I was in the treetops sliding on the vines, but while switching vines Sly locked onto the elephant powered satellite 50 feet below me. Did you run into this?
Yeah i like this game lots but i recently replayed it and beat it. I was honestly very close ending the playthrough around contessas level like you did. I DESPISE that level. Sly 1 will always be the best in my book. Such a fantastic expierence. Anyhow a great review as always Jak! To be honest i thought you were gonna love this game haha.
One of my favorite games of all time and you just roasted it to oblivion before my child like eyes. While this is depressing for me as a fan i am glad you were 100% honest wouldn't have it any other way and the live action segments were nice. That was a surprise. Jak favoring the 2nd game in the series streak ends. He's not going to like Sly 3. It has a better story than 2, but I don't think Jak will like the gameplay. He might think It's worse. That was the biggest surprise you ever gave me Jak in any of your reviews.
Thought I was the only one who just didn't like this game. I think you'd prefer the third game. The presentation is brighter, the story is better, the boss fights are better, the levels don't drag on and are mostly set at day time and (in my opinion) perfects the open world style levels.

In a way yes but it really comes down to preference. While Sly is the most fun to use, Bentley and Murray are alright and play differently enough from each other to give a varied experience.

Awesome video as always Jak! I know the video was made a while ago but today was the first time I watched it. I gotta say you bring up a lot of good points in your video review of Sly 2. Currently I am trying my best to play through Sly 2 on my PS Vita as I have beaten Sly 1 and 3. I'm struggling to get through the game. Not that Sly 2 is too difficult because it is not. But the sheer level of tediousness, repetitive, padding, and boring gameplay is making me dread continuing. I'm currently on episode 6 of Sly 2 and after everything else that has come before it really doesn't have me wanting to press on. I will finish the game but once I beat Sly 2 I will probably never touch it again. Say what you will about Sly 1 but never once through my entire play through of that game did I ever feel like not playing on. I don't know if it is because I started playing Sly 2 right after beating Sly 1 and 3 but I'm growing tired and frustrated with Sly 2. Every time I look online to see how others viewed Sly 2 the majority seem to think Sly 2 is the best or is their favorite. My favorite Sly game will always be 3. Mostly for all the reasons you listed in your review of Sly 3. But anyways thanks for always being entertaining Jak. Its why I've been subbed for a while now.
Honestly, listening to your review here, I feel like you won't hate Sly 3 as much as I thought. While there are a few more characters added, which while I loved them I know you'll hate, Bentley and Murray had their mobility greatly increased, the levels are bright and varied, and the guards were easier to evade at least in my opinion.

I think this game could have definitely some more platforming, and Neyla is just... who is she? No seriously, she just shows up out of nowhere and betrays literally every character she allies herself with. Could have been shorter too, some of the worlds are just total garbo.
While I admit Band of Thieves is a bit flawed, I kinda enjoyed this one... shame it didn't suit your fancy, Honor Among Thieves is more or less the same with a few new features from what I played. Good luck finding the rest of your games Jak!

I'm sorry jak but this review was terrible. You were complaining about everyone being minibosses, thats because its a STEALTH game, your not supposed to fight them head on

Jak gulped. He knew what he had to do: wave the staff, and revive the dead mother of Sg Bird, and Sparx. Then, he would no longer have enemies, and could rule the Dragon realms in peace. Or, he could just Zap them all right there and then.
He paused for a moment to decide, "It would be cool to see if I really had the power to bring back the dead." He concluded, "besides, I could always just destroy them all afterwards."
And so, Jak began waving the staff and soon found his entire body being swayed along with each movement.
Spyro, Hunter, and James Bird watched as Jak began an elegant ballet-style dance, prancing around majestically. Then, he aimed the staff at the ground, and a giant burst of fire struck it, creating an enormous crater.
There was a moment of silence, and then suddenly, a creature began to climb out.
It had two large wings, a jetpack, antenna, and a beak tipped with lipstick.
"Mom?" Sg Bird asked.
"Sparx?" Spyro did the same.
"Spyrrrrrrrooooo... what has happened to... MEEEEEE" The voice alternated from Sparx's buzzy annoying tone, to a high pitched female cry.
Spyro and co stared at the creature, unable to speak, or move. Then, with tears in his eyes, Spyro gave the instruction. "Jak... that's not Sparx! What have you done to them? Kill them! Put them out of their misery!"
But Jak was no where to be found. He had already fled the scene.
I don't usually listen to reviews, but your reviews are different, u tell ur honest opinon, you don't say what people want u to say about the games, and thats why I rate u and u make the reviews fun which other reviewers lack.
I remember even as a kid, Chapters 4 & 5 were a pain to navigate because of how dark the levels were, especially if you're playing the game on an old CRT TV.
Which makes me very glad that the PS3 Port of the game from the HD Collection fixes the lighting issues.
Looking back at this video shows how truly dedicated you are for our entertainment.

I see a lot of loopholes in your reasons 1st you said earlier that sly is used to avoid detection yet next you say that the guards are everywhere that's the point it's a stealth game that's the point of the genre to avoid detection Murray is used to slam through guards and Bentley is used as demolitions and remote controlled technology experts Bentley can use his bombs as a trap for guards as he runs away Bentley isn't supposed to be looking for a fight secondly the point of the scouting missions is to become aware of your surroundings there is something called steakouts theives use these to plan out their attack bentleys matrix shooter mission began in the 1st contessa stage I believe that Bentleys hacking is only in the 1st contessa stage and the second Jean bison stage and the helicopter shoot part of the final battle is simple shoot clock-la's ring once and the electrical field is disabled

I guess watching Bentley get squashed like a grape made up for his lackluster gameplay
The HD port has much better contrast, making it much easier seeing despite it being so dark. The PS2 version is awful though, I can barely play it due to how dark it is.

This is one of my favourite game series of all time and I've only seen positive reviews, so finally seeing someone who says the game isn't anything special is defenetly interesting. I will say that the problems you had with this game will be different from the third, since it has way different athmosphere.

While I don't agree with your opinion of this game (this is one of my favorites and my brother's favorite games ever) I think this review was very well edited. I like the whole binoculars thing.
Also the contessa levels are my favorite. I love the atmosphere and some of the missions are really fun. I like the idea that you actually have to save your team.
I am surprised no one has mentioned the Big Smoke Easter Egg that Jak put in
Playing it on the PS3 is so much better and not as dark I didn't understand because it was never dark on the PS3 version

Actually, wouldn’t using Bentley and Murray, two characters you’ve played through most of the game with along with Sly, during the final boss also count as putting all the player’s skills accumulated over the course of the game to the test too? Especially with all the upgrades you got?

I can't believe Rockstar allowed you to use Red Dead Redemption 2 footage as your intro! It hasn't even been released yet! But jokes aside, it's refreshing to hear a unique perspective considering the majority of the reviewers consider this the best instalment. It's one of the reasons why this channel is one of my favourites on TH-cam just for how much it differs from the usual consensus when it comes to gaming, even if I disagree with it sometimes. I still can't get over the production value of those binocucom(ber) segments! Another good video Jak! Hopefully we'll triangulate the perpetrator behind this video-gaming thievery! (Not me. Mostly).
Quick question, while I was playing this game, I had an annoying glitch where when I was doing the circle stealth moves, Sly would lock onto the complete wrong object. For example, in the jungle level, I was in the treetops sliding on the vines, but while switching vines Sly locked onto the elephant powered satellite 50 feet below me.
Did you run into this?

Yeah i like this game lots but i recently replayed it and beat it. I was honestly very close ending the playthrough around contessas level like you did. I DESPISE that level. Sly 1 will always be the best in my book. Such a fantastic expierence. Anyhow a great review as always Jak! To be honest i thought you were gonna love this game haha.

One of my favorite games of all time and you just roasted it to oblivion before my child like eyes. While this is depressing for me as a fan i am glad you were 100% honest wouldn't have it any other way and the live action segments were nice. Awesome review but i really do hope things can be more positive for the next game also was that scene where the guy orders food foreshadowing towards a GTA Series review?

That was a surprise. Jak favoring the 2nd game in the series streak ends. He's not going to like Sly 3. It has a better story than 2, but I don't think Jak will like the gameplay. He might think It's worse. That was the biggest surprise you ever gave me Jak in any of your reviews.
Thought I was the only one who just didn't like this game. I think you'd prefer the third game. The presentation is brighter, the story is better, the boss fights are better, the levels don't drag on and are mostly set at day time and (in my opinion) perfects the open world style levels.

In a way yes but it really comes down to preference. While Sly is the most fun to use, Bentley and Murray are alright and play differently enough from each other to give a varied experience.
The HD re-release for this game on PS3 fixes the lighting of this game, is there a reason why you didn't bother reviewing THAT version instead?

Awesome video as always Jak! I know the video was made a while ago but today was the first time I watched it. I gotta say you bring up a lot of good points in your video review of Sly 2. Currently I am trying my best to play through Sly 2 on my PS Vita as I have beaten Sly 1 and 3. I'm struggling to get through the game. Not that Sly 2 is too difficult because it is not. But the sheer level of tediousness, repetitive, padding, and boring gameplay is making me dread continuing. I'm currently on episode 6 of Sly 2 and after everything else that has come before it really doesn't have me wanting to press on. I will finish the game but once I beat Sly 2 I will probably never touch it again. Say what you will about Sly 1 but never once through my entire play through of that game did I ever feel like not playing on. I don't know if it is because I started playing Sly 2 right after beating Sly 1 and 3 but I'm growing tired and frustrated with Sly 2. Every time I look online to see how others viewed Sly 2 the majority seem to think Sly 2 is the best or is their favorite. My favorite Sly game will always be 3. Mostly for all the reasons you listed in your review of Sly 3. But anyways thanks for always being entertaining Jak. Its why I've been subbed for a while now.
I hope Jak plays Sly 4 with a third party PS3 controller
Honestly, listening to your review here, I feel like you won't hate Sly 3 as much as I thought. While there are a few more characters added, which while I loved them I know you'll hate, Bentley and Murray had their mobility greatly increased, the levels are bright and varied, and the guards were easier to evade at least in my opinion.
Oh man, it's going to be Spyro Year of the Dragon review all over again when it comes to the multiple character gimmick in Sly 3. I already have a sneaking suspicion of who he's going to hate the most to play as lol

The more I think about it the more I start to agree. Sly 2 is really dumbed down by poor design choices. Sly 3 is my personal favorite. But I'll wait to see how you take it.
I disagree on your arguments about the game being too dark ( as well as in the first one ), But I do agree on the fact that the first game had far more charm to it and way better levels, and good video btw.

Jak, I know who stole your games! It was your subconscious A.K.A. Uka Uka from your re-reviews video. He's been in a lot of your old Crash videos, and you even said in the Sly 1 review "Those eyes look familiar" which is most likely foreshadowing for the conclusion.

I think this game could have definitely some more platforming, and Neyla is just... who is she? No seriously, she just shows up out of nowhere and betrays literally every character she allies herself with. Could have been shorter too, some of the worlds are just total garbo.

While I admit Band of Thieves is a bit flawed, I kinda enjoyed this one... shame it didn't suit your fancy, Honor Among Thieves is more or less the same with a few new features from what I played.
