Judge Newman had command of his courtroom, he was confident in his rulings, and allowed cameras in the courtroom.
I hope ID takes heed in his example of how a trial can be run and still have cameras present.

@@dianealarcon8304, Someone suggested Jean Toal. The former South Carolina Chief Justice, for all her good qualities, is the one who fostered and nurtured the NEPOTISM, NEPOTISM, AND THEN MORE NEPOTISM culture of judging in South Carolina. She may have inherited it from her predecessors; but she did NOTHING to end it.
HERE IS A BETTER IDEA: bring the three living and mentally competent RETIRED U.S. Supreme Court Justices: Kennedy, Souter, and Bryer; and ask to sit in a panel of three.
Sandra Day O'Connor is still alive but she suffers from that which hit her mother and from which the late Justice Ginsburg had been spared.
In many countries, trial judges sit in panels of three. These are the countries without jury systems. But since this is a fact-intensive finding, it would be appropriate to have a panel of three judges.
Retired Justice Breyer was appointed by Bill Clinton and is Jewish. Retired Justice Souter was appointed by GHW Bush (father) and is Episcopalian. Retired Justice Kennedy was appointed by Ronald Reagan and is Catholic. Of the three, only Souter served as a state trial judge in New Hampshire and liked to speak to jurors after trials.
Once confirmed by the U.S. Senate, a U.S. Supreme Court Justice is confirmed for life and may, after retirement from the U.S. Supreme Court, sit (and at least Souter and O'Connor sat) on the federal cicuit courts of appeals. But there is no chance of Richard Alex Murdaugh's ("RAM") case ever going to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, where Souter sometimes sat after retiring from the U.S. Supreme Court.
In my opinion free from false humility, this is the only way this fractured country will ever have any confidence in any FACT-FINDING involving RAM.
The only problem with this idea is whether three late octagenerians can be convinced to come to South Carolina, whether Colloton County or Columbia; but may be the lure of some sunny days to escape the fall/winter drear of Boston and New Hampshire may do the trick.
      No joke. Really.

He was talking on a level of honesty about and knowing him and his entire family including Paul and Maggie and Here he stands before the judge a completely broken individual , so when the judge said that hey maybe it wasn’t you Alex , maybe it’s the monster you turned into when you take 30 40 50 pills and you have ruined your life and your only living son is left alone. I think the judge was sorry for the situation more than the man

That judge will never have to buy his own beer again. He did it correctly and fairly

I agree. I didn’t feel any sympathy coming from the judge. He was harsh.

That judge needs to be on the Supreme Court. Get rid of some of them who seem to be above the law.

Judge Newman is a wonderful Judge. Nothing wrong with his interview.
Also you can't force anyone to admit murderer... you can force remorse, regardless...

If a judge DOESNT have empathy for humans, THATS when we should worry.

This is not Judge Newmans first interview. He sat down for an interview shortly after the trial. However, this may be the first national interview.

What they are so pissed about is that this judge CN wasn't going for any of the 🤬. Lawyers don't like it when a judge control their court cases. Once Alexa Murder was founded guilty. Judge could say whatever. And he did. 100%. It was man best friend was one of the best witness. Judge Newman don't sweat the 🤬. Lawyers don't realize this wasn't your first case. Why that judge just called the man by his name. Thank you sir. Enjoy your retirement when time comes 🍻

Ew. This guy in the white is enough to stop watching. Judge Newman and the prosecution team showed class, dignity, and empathy during the entire trial.
