Not only does that make much more sence, as the song is pro-Jesus and anti-Pagan, but literally the original German says "heiden", which means, well, heathens/pagans. The great Irony is that the 5th Crusade was mostly directed at Ayyubid Egypt while the Christian Allied Sultanate of Rum (Kaykaus I had a complex religious/cultural identity being both Christian and Muslim as well as Greek/Turkish/Persian. Not that the Seljuqs where particularly fervent Muslims, unlike the later Ottomans) attacked Syria to divert its forces from Egypt. The Papacy directed the campaign to insure it could not be hijacked and diverted like the 4th crusade. Georgia which was a major military power at the time had pledged support however they where invaded my the Mongols. It's likely that if Georgia was able to provide assistance unhindered the Crusade would have been successful. Which is also Ironic since the Mamluk (slave warriors of the Ayyubids) dynasty which rebelled and defeated the Ayyubids (seems to be a repeat theme of using Slaves as your military defeat) later spelled the end of the Mongol Ilkhanate. Jerusalem was retaken but since the walls had been torn down by the Ayyubids it was an indefensible position.

@@Filius_Tonitrui The sin of a father doesn't belong to his son. The debt of a father is not a debt of the son. The sin committed by Adam is not our sin so that doesn't need to be redeemed. Secondly, God is the supreme authority. If he needs to forgive anything, he doesn't need to be formed as a human and then hanged by humans. It doesn't make any sense.

Now my life has gained its meaning
since these sinful eyes behold
the sacred land with meadows greening
whose renown is often told.
This was granted me from God:
to see the land, the holy sod,
which in human form He trod.
Splendid lands of wealth and power,
I’ve seen many, far and near,
yet of all are you the flower.
What a wonder happened here!
That a maid a child should bear,
Lord of all the angels fair,
was not this a wonder rare?
Here was He baptized, the Holy,
that all people might be pure.
Here He died, betrayed and lowly,
that our bonds should not endure.
Else our fate had been severe.
Hail, O cross, thorns and spear!
Heathens, woe! Your rage is clear.
Thank you! Peace be with you.
Hey man I think you left a bit out friend, the message is supposed to also claim that the Christian claim on the Holy Land was just, and I don't see it here ;-; I do like it though, I consistently listen to it

I find the original German version to be much more pleasing to listen to.
@red x17 Yeah, I understand it. I did take a bit of German.
@ Dr. MP-40 are you sure? Even Germans don’t understand Middle High German, it’s especially tricky because words that sound the same have different meanings sometimes.
@@KP3droflxp that's not true, if you find resemblences with other germanic languages in words, then it won't be hard to understand at least 80% of Middle High German in comparison to High German, you just have to listen closely and read the lyrics.
How can I discover more music like this? Is there a specific genre for this type of sound?
its folk music, the text is from the middle ages, but most of the musicalized versions are from recent times. Seek for medieval and renaissance music, is the most simillar i can think of. The channel Ex Cathedra has a good repertory, its kind of related to christianity tho.

What accent is this? Mostly it sounds British/Scottish and sometimes it sounds Southern American
There's definitely some crossover between Scottish and Southern, but this is likely neither. The band appears to be located in Budapest and I would certainly believe anyone who said the accent is Hungarian.
Apparently you've never heard a Scot, or a Southerner, because this doesn't sound like either, let alone a crossover.

@@kulloth they are definitely saying heathens, not "heavens". Not only does that make much more sence, as the song is pro-Jesus and anti-Pagan, but literally the original German says "heiden", which means, well, heathens/pagans. Remember, these singers are Hungarian, and dont speak English natively, and so they didnt know how to say the word "heathen".
Jerusalem was retaken but since the walls had been torn down by the Ayyubids it was an indefensible position.
a real masterpiece

I can't tell if it's modern or old English.
sounds like modern english but with some middle english words
Modern
If it was old you wouldn't even understand. Old Englisch is basically a dialect of German.
@@KarmaKraftttt the german language in itself has only existed for less than 600 years. Therefore, old english would be even more incomprehensible to us nowadays as it is a Germanic language.
@@ravenknight4876 English is a Germanic language, as well. It’s just that Old English is straight from the Anglo-Saxons who settled in Great Britain in the 5th century, i.e. a cousin of Old Frisian and Old Saxon, from which modern German evolved.
