This was a brilliant speech. The way she wins over the crowd brought a tear to my eye. But, it also makes me sad. For those who don't know, the students tried very hard to have her removed as the graduation speaker. But, she was allowed to speak, and she won them over, maybe giving them a perspective they hadn't considered before. Today, she almost certainly would be disinvited, and none of those good results would happen. And, I say all this as a dyed in the wool liberal. Rest in Peace, Mrs. Bush.
@@SummerOf-oe3hs What's your point? If you genuinely think that's a clever/funny joke, you've got a lousy sense of humor. If you're just trying to show strangers how little you care about things, and how nihilistic you are- uhh, good on ya? Duly noted.
I agree it was a great speech, short and to the salient point, and thank you for your perspective and inside information. But, why were they screaming in excitement if they originally did not want her?
@gamerwhiz6847 You mean at the start of her speech? I suspect that there were also students in the audience who didn't mind her speaking, and they were just trying to make her feel welcome.
She’s reading a speech that was written for her. Alice Walker would have been the better speaker. She speaks about the importance of family, but this woman, has never had to go without, she’s had the best of everything and her children have never had to go to war.
Kinda cool how she said one of the women watching her might succeed her as first lady and the woman who succeeded her (Hillary Clinton) graduated from Wellesley herself.
@@sexyAQlaxer I'm not saying inbreeding. Just that people need to have roughly the same culture and values and mindset, some deference's are good. If people are too different from each other to causes Chao's.
sexyAQlaxer ... an example would help. At this point in America, we have so many worldviews going on at once and we don’t know which way is up. The foundation of one worldview is being attacked by another nonstop. We need to reduce the amount of cultural differences we have in order to reestablish some stability. Can’t build on top of a weak foundation.
6:40 - I love the perfect timing of the baby crying right after she said about how family is so important.

Today they would be walking out. Shouting. Throwing things. Such a respectful audience
literally when has that ever happened? The audience didn't even walk out during Harrison Butker's speech.
Fantastic lady ❤❤❤

Yea, that's my dream, to be "tolerated". lol
That’s Barbara Bush. That is the President’s mother.

You missed the punchline...she said one may follow in her footsteps as the President's spouse and she wished HIM well....
I was reading this while Bush was saying this
A wife of apresident as well as the mother of apresident.
One of our underrated first ladies!!! love babs!!! Mrs. Bush, a true lady. But i wonder, not Smith College?? she was technically an alumni of Smith.
She did not graduate from Smith College. She dropped out to marry George Bush.
This is what we need today folks.
