I first listened to this speech when I was fresh out of college, seeing the world from a naive lens. Now 10 years later, after I've failed epically in major aspects of life, I come back to this video again. This time, I cried over the fact that I haven't lost my love for the world. I actually love it more than ever.
I had a very deep conversation about this with a roommate in rehab. We continuously tried to out literature each other throughout our stay and she wrote me out a poem she knew by heart that I still keep years later. It will remind me forever of the worth and value of intelligence that is so very declined in the world. Also how having any addiction or physical issue creates an extreme allowance for others to dispose of people. If reincarnation is a truth this has been my life for very many lessons. For I know it is. I know I'm here now not to pay but to learn.

That she could entertain despite taking to heart the suffering in our world is an amazing testament to the power available to every human.
I hadn’t realised that J K Rowling was so full of real insight. Her life’s story shows that she followed her dreams and did what she was destined to do. She mentioned the need to ‘touch others’ because she knows that so many graduates are likely to pursue money at the expense of doing just that, and will be all the poorer for it. The quote from Seneca is as timeless as the messages she has given us. Thank you.

JK Rowling has betrayed an entire generation of Potter fans by casting Depp as Grindelwald and keeping him in the role despite all the evidence of his abuse. It's unbelievable that so many people could fall for the lies, sleaze and tricks of this man and his massive army of lawyers, PR reps, studios and sycophants who will stop at nothing to demonize his ex-wife and make sure that their cash cow can keep paying them. He has a long history of violence that has been covered up for a long time. Quote from Kate Moss's 2010 biography from a bouncer at the Viper Room: "I've heard people describe Johnny as shy and mild-mannered. He is when he's sober. When he's drunk, he gets a bad, bad temper." It takes A LOT for a BOUNCER on Depp's payroll (one of an army of paid entourage), to say that he has a bad temper. That is not the kind of thing you say about normal men. That means that he is VIOLENT and NASTY when drunk. Wake up and smell the coffee. It would take the dumb sheeple, played by Depp's PR army, seeing Amber beat her to a pulp with their own eyes before they believe it's true. Any even then they will say she set him up. Depp smashed his hand through a wall in a fight with Amber, so badly that he had to leave his $200M movie set and fly home for surgery. Sounds normal. I bet that's the "lying gold-digger's" fault too, right? The same people who believe that there is NO WAY Depp could get drunk, high and violent (despite reports of violence for years, witnesses, photos) are those that swallow every mainstream media narrative and have no idea that there are forces at work behind the scenes. When you read the Washington Post, or Fox News or NYT, for example, you don't just swallow the story blindly, you realize that they are owned by powerful people, left wing or right who are spinning you the narrative that they want you to hear. When you hear all these stories from "sources", you don't just take them on board, you think about why you are hearing them. Why did we hear a slurry of horrific stories about Heard just after she filed for divorce? Because there are powerful machines at work behind the scenes that want you to believe she is a wicked, non-human, monster caricature. Those forces are paid for by Depp and his studios, and are vicious and ruthless and will stop at nothing. They include the "sources" telling us Depp's mother hate her, the sick sycophant friend calling her a demon, the bodyguards calling TMZ, the army of PR reps spreading lies about her. Open your eyes and THINK. There are forces at play here that want to save their billion $ cash cow. His own assistant, Stephen Deuters, sent Amber multiple messages, authenticated by an Apple expert saying that Depp "cried when he found out he kicked her." Here is a quote from IO Tillet Wright about what she witnessed at the Depp house: "The reports of violence started with a kick on a private plane, then it was shoves and the occasional punch, until finally, in December, she described an all-out assault and she woke up with her pillow covered in blood. I know this because I went to their house. I saw the pillow with my own eyes. I saw the busted lip and the clumps of hair on the floor. I got the phone call immediately after it happened, her screaming and crying, a stoic woman reduced to sobs." And I suppose it's acceptable that Depp punched his colleague on the set of the now-disappeared City of Lies for asking him to wrap up his scenes? In true Depp style, his PR army have now gone on to smear this man and say that Depp attacked him because he made racist comments. Yeah sure. And I guess it's normal that on the set of Pirates 5, his behavior was described as a "trainwreck", with a drunken Depp keeping the entire crew waiting for hours while having "violent fights" with Amber, and then cutting off the tip of his finger and writing "Easy Amber" in blood on the mirror, in a continuation of his emotional abuse of his 30-year-old wife. Normalizing the violent behavior of this man and glorifying him because you like these movies is disgusting. Keeping him in a movie that was supposed to be a safe haven for abuse victims is abhorrent. You are in the gutter JK Rowling. Shame on you.

Lalay Wayn Apart from the references to her books, she did not make any jokes that would not translate into other languages. The presentation might have been British, but the meaning was universal, otherwise the Harvard graduates would not have laughed! And believe me, as a Brit, I have made jokes that American people did not find at all funny, and vice versa.
I have admired JK Rowling since her first book came out, not because I read it (I haven't read a single one of her books, or seen any of the Harry Potter movies) but because I learned of how she went to a church for help and they ridiculed her for being on welfare. And as the church people paraded their piousity all around at her expense, they humiliated her to no end and without mercy. I admire her because she was able to pull herself up by the bootstraps and do better than even she expected. And get this. The church people still complained, never being satisfied. Not only did she make something of herself, but she got a whole generation of children all around the world very interested in reading, which I never even thought possible for this day and age. For that, she's a hero to many millions of people, and yes, that includes me. My own children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews would read her books with great excitement and anticipation and then come to me and tell me all about it, and then after they saw the movie that was related to the book they read, they would tell me about how much better the movie or book was, and why they feel that way. She got children interested, engaged, and involved. For that, I will be forever grateful to JK Rowling. It's also the biggest reason I admire her so much.
J.K. Rowling truly has a tremendous depth of knowledge and wisdom, and all told through that most wonderful filter of British Humor. But I suppose anyone who has had the pleasure of reading the Harry Potter books could have distilled that insight. Carry on Jo, you've taught generations of children (and adults) the importance of integrity, humility, being earnest and standing up for what is right.

In them is the grime of society, as the Deatheaters, the those who cannot be named, the Umbridges, the Politicians, the Twelawney's, the everybody's, that you will meet, great or small, wicked and lying, good and protective, and nurturing, or nay-saying, are in her books. I've never imagined that J.K. Rowling, one of the most successful writers, should talk about benefits of failure. And I’ve never thought such a great writer like her had feared about failure at her 20s. I was encouraged by her speech, because I had always feared about failure, too.
December 8th of this year, I am lucky because the highschool speech team, I have the chance to take 8 minutes of her speech and deliver it myself. It is an extreme honor to be able to speak the same words J.K Rowling spoke today. I look to her as my idol, she may not be a Queen of England, but she is the queen in my head and she inspires me. I hope this goes well and that I don't mess up because this woman inspires me for so many things.

At over 60 years of age and feeling I have failed to reach my dreams in life, Rowling's speech made me decide to read her children's books for the first time ever, appreciating now the human behind the writing. That she could entertain despite taking to heart the suffering in our world is an amazing testament to the power available to every human.
This speech is part of our syllabus in Telangana, India (OU) degree college, for nearly 12-24 marks.

And I guess it's normal that on the set of Pirates 5, his behavior was described as a "trainwreck", with a drunken Depp keeping the entire crew waiting for hours while having "violent fights" with Amber, and then cutting off the tip of his finger and writing "Easy Amber" in blood on the mirror, in a continuation of his emotional abuse of his 30-year-old wife.
Normalizing the violent behavior of this man and glorifying him because you like these movies is disgusting. Keeping him in a movie that was supposed to be a safe haven for abuse victims is abhorrent. You are in the gutter JK Rowling. Shame on you.

She has had to be pragmatic to survive through life's difficulties but still wholeheartedly believes that good will triumph over evil. It's impossible to hate this woman!

The presentation might have been British, but the meaning was universal, otherwise the Harvard graduates would not have laughed! I have admired JK Rowling since her first book came out, not because I read it (I haven't read a single one of her books, or seen any of the Harry Potter movies) but because I learned of how she went to a church for help and they ridiculed her for being on welfare. And as the church people paraded their piousity all around at her expense, they humiliated her to no end and without mercy. I admire her because she was able to pull herself up by the bootstraps and do better than even she expected. And get this. The church people still complained, never being satisfied. Not only did she make something of herself, but she got a whole generation of children all around the world very interested in reading, which I never even thought possible for this day and age. For that, she's a hero to many millions of people, and yes, that includes me. My own children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews would read her books with great excitement and anticipation and then come to me and tell me all about it, and then after they saw the movie that was related to the book they read, they would tell me about how much better the movie or book was, and why they feel that way. She got children interested, engaged, and involved. For that, I will be forever grateful to JK Rowling. It's also the biggest reason I admire her so much.

December 8th of this year, I am lucky because the highschool speech team, I have the chance to take 8 minutes of her speech and deliver it myself. It is an extreme honor to be able to speak the same words J.K Rowling spoke today. I look to her as my idol, she may not be a Queen of England, but she is the queen in my head and she inspires me. I hope this goes well and that I don't mess up because this woman inspires me for so many things.

Jo, you are the greatest person ever inspiring me and all my students at Junior High School. Your endless efforts to make your dream come true is truely inspiring me to keep educating my students of Mataloko Seminary, Indonesia, to make their dreams come true to bring light to the world in their work and status as Catholic priests and misionaris. I was more than lucky to visit Hollywood in 2019 and saw the Harry Potter house. The strong and facinating walls shaped myself to be a strong person at my work as an English teacher for the young learners. A couple of days ago l read a book, Who is J.K. it was definitely a speech that could be only given by someone who legitimately went through a hardship and struggle in life. I feel fortunate enough to hear her speech one late night while enjoying my bedtime which could have just been usual bed time but steered me into full of passion and inspiration instead. Most of all, I'm grateful for all the hopes that shes given me through this wonderful speech. it surely led me to turn back to a firm belief that ive been told so many times that could rather sound corny, but things will turn out all good as we all learn from our failure.
