When it comes to table runners, I don't worry about right-side up, either. A design that's upside down to one diner is rightside up for the diner across the table. Everyone gets something to look at. Those prints are adorable.
Hi Dona: my name is Elba and I am very satisfied with the small table runner project that I made following your instructions. Thanks Dona and sending hugs from Vancouver Canada .
Your kits are wonderful - superbly cut. I appreciate the fact that you don’t skimp on the fabric. And your tutorials ensure that anybody can make them. Thanks!!
Донна, какая же ты умница! Смотрю, восхищаюсь и учусь. Каждый день говорю: "Дай, Бог, всем вам здоровья и благополучия"! Спасибо большое! С уважением, Людмила.
Watching Donna's flip method encouraged me to use it for the baby quilts I have started making. They are only 36 inches square and I think it shows off the patchwork much better on these small quilts.
Adorable!!! 😄 ... You make learning so easy and great fun... you explain everything simply and so exact... Straight to the point and all the way to the finish... A complete project... Beautiful. 🌹 And I love how you and Matt always compliment one another... Different techniques and ideas.. but always supportive of each other. Great Team.... 🌹
You make it look so fast and easy and I feel so slow. You are so good at sewing and your hubby does so well picking fabric and cutting it. Nice ironing board. Sue
These are so fun. I wish I was good with a sewing machine. I made a patchwork quilt throw for my brother’s family, for Christmas. Everything was hand down. It took at least fifty hours!
This I was thinking about how to make a table top! I am inclined to watch this video out of curiosity since I have 24 blocks cabins finished! I thank you 😊
This was a great tutorial. Thank you for showing each step from piecing to how to quilt the runner, that is so helpful to me as a beginner😊. Looking forward to all your videos😀😀.
Cute and easy project! And I like your comment about having something fun on the back. I have always been a firm believer that your back should be as pretty as the front!
Thank you so much! I realize now that, even with a “kit,” I would not have known how to proceed and would have done several things wrong. Then I would have been frustrated. I’m just now getting to where I have enough blocks to make two different quilts. I will pay very close attention to you to see how I should do each step! So far, I’ve only quilted a doll’s quilt. I would really like to do some small projects before I try the big ones and I know you have made it much more likely that they will turn out nicely with your tutorial! Thank you again! I think I might treat myself to one of your kits. It sure sounds nice to have the cutting done!
I made the Christmas Robert Kauffman's kit following your tutorial and it turned out amazing. Thank you for everything, the great choice of fabrics, the awesome cutting of the pieces by Matt, and your fantastic lessons to make the projects,
I'm learning so much from these videos. Thanks for keeping them up. This video showed me where my confusion was between flipping the quilt and giving it a binding. At least, I think I've got it. Such a newby!
Thanks, Donna!! I just received 4 of your precut table runners & small throw size kits in holiday colors:)) Sometimes you just want to sit and SEW!!!! This video was excellent, as usual, and offered several great tips even a veteran sewist can appreciate:)). Your videos inspire me! Keep up the GREAT work !!
Excellent tutorial. I love the colour combinations you use with your fabrics. Loved the other tutorial on fussy cut method too. Thanks to Max also for showing such a creative way. You guys are awesome. Thanks again.
First time I've seen you, I'm so impressed..you're an excellent teacher and your store is amazing- so many projects and such a huge selection of materials! I like the way you explain things as you go, I'm a visual learner and you've made it so clear and easy to understand everything. So glad you popped up on my recommendations..and I will definitely check out your store online (wish your business were in my neighborhood, I'd be in every day!) Thanks and appreciation from a new fan of yours..keep up the great work!
I really love your tutorials - and your kits are just super great. I have been teaching my daughter to quilt and the kits are just right for letting her see success - the best motivator of all. Thanks!
I love this pattern and also the expertise with which you put this together ! Very easy to follow and easy to understand. My only issue is the way you take off with such a jerky fast speed when you sew it together.Im sure it's because you've made so many of these but I can't help but cringe when you take off with such speed and then abruptly stop.I know this sounds very trivial but it goes against everything I've learned about sewing over the years! Great tutorial!
Fantastic once again, we are only beginning to have a decent variety of Halloween fabrics available here in Australia. Thank you so much for imparting your knowledge and skills so freely. Jess
I just love your precut pkgs!!! Your kits are cut so perfectly!! Love all the choices of colors too!!! I will travel to your shop this coming summer. Love all your videos too!! Great stuff 😀
After watching your tutorial I decided that I can do this and ordered 3 kits from your website! I love your videos and hope to visit your store one day. 🙂 Thank you for bringing out my creative side!!
I'd like to see what these log cabin style blocks look like with just random fabric colors all around or in different designs from this standard of light on one side and dark on the other. Have you made one with randome fabric strips like that?
Quarter inch seam test. Take three, 2.5 inch squares or strips, sew all three together. If your 1/4 inch is accurate, the middle square/strip should be EXACTLY 2 inches.
I do this for every project with the different fabrics in it. It's amazing how each fabric is thicker or thinner and how well it presses to make more or less accurate 1/4" seams. When I was a new quilter, I was stymied by a (too) intricate piecing pattern, and every block ended up too small. I discovered that the homespun that was mixed in with the regular broadcloth type fabrics was much thicker, so I had to make an extra "scant" 1/4" seam to end up with the correct block dimensions. I finally made up a chart so that I knew how much to fudge the seam if it was two homespuns seamed together or a homespun+broadcloth, or two broadcloths. Some of the better quality batiks can through off your seams, too, because they are a heavier fabrics than others.
I am in the process of finishing a Christmas runner using the silver metalic kit that I just purchased. My border is very wavey. Not sure what I did wrong. Any suggestions?
Great runner. You must have very strong nails to finger press the way you do. I'm not so lucky, as my nail are not good for pressing. Any suggestions I can use instead of getting out the iron? Lizzi
Lizzi Condon I use the handle of a plastic spatula that broke and was going to toss out. mMy husband smoothed the broken part out for me using his dremel, it ended up in a V shape on the side I use to press seams, I usually just use my thumb nail or index finger because I seem to always have them with me and near by ;). Donna has suggested using a spoon to "iron" creases for seams. That method works very well.
love the tutorials....i usually watch MSQC tutorials....let me say hello....my name is Linda S. I so want to do an Long Cabin Quilt one day. i see you packages make 12 squares. My question is what size is one block. Loooking to make a queen size quilt..so thinking i need 3 packages......
The flip finish works best on smaller projects, but can be done with larger quilts. It will be harder to keep everything flat, but you can use lots of pins or basting to help.
I've made quite a few of your table runners however I've cut them myself. I love the floating stars. I've noticed if I quilt heavier than in the ditch on a turn and flip runner I get a bit of wavy edges. I'm not sure if it's because I stretched it? It doesn't seem to happen if I just stitch in the ditch when quilting. Today you touched on subject of runners being nice and flat and I appreciate your attention to that detail. I thought perhaps I may of not stitched an exact seam? Any ideas or pointers?
I steam press everything very, very flat and then hold on tight while quilting. If you can drop the feed dog on your machine that may help too. I also steam press the runner when it is all finished.
I was taught not to get hung up on the perfect "1/4" seam but rather concentrate on the finished size, so for instance, if you had two 1.5" cut strips and sewed them together, each strip should measure exactly 1.25" from the pressed seam to the raw edge. if its more, your seam is too narrow and if its less, your seam is too wide. My accuracy improved a lot because i had relied in the past on a piecing foot with 50/2 thread which gave me slightly less than a 1/4". now i use a normal foot and have my needle positioned to ensure the seam is correct.
Hi Donna, I tried this method for a hanger, but somehow something must have gone wrong. The sides came out a bit wonky, though the sashing was cut and sewn perfectly straight. I didn't use a batting and backing like you did, but a prequilted batting which was very thin and when I closed the aperture i realised it sort of glued down to the front......could this be the reason? I'm hopeless and feel I have ruined a gift 😔😔😔 thanks for your feedback.Laura
Tabitha Maywald flannel also makes a good batting for runners and tableclothes. It's not as bumpy as traditional batting so if you set a glass on it, it's not likely to wobble over and spill. I've not had trouble with melting with flannel. Yay!
Love this! You do make the flip method look easy. I'll have to try that sometime. What scissors do you use? I see a lot of quilters on TH-cam use similar ones and I don't think the brand is ever mentioned. They sound very strong and sturdy.
When it comes to table runners, I don't worry about right-side up, either. A design that's upside down to one diner is rightside up for the diner across the table. Everyone gets something to look at. Those prints are adorable.

Thank you,
Kim
Love this, like making table tops.
Love your tutorials
I love this technic it goes so quickly, Don,t we have to make sure that they face the same direction all the time
When you quilted the top did you still use orange on the top and gray in your bobbin?

Love your methods!!
Maravilhoso, não canso de admirar seu trabalho.
You make me think even I could do this!!!
Enjoyed the tutorial! This table runner would make great gifts?
Nicely done! Thank you!
Another great tutorial Just placed my first order with you.
Would the supplies in the package allow me to double the size if I bought 2 packages?
I am in the process of finishing a Christmas runner using the silver metalic kit that I just purchased. My border is very wavey. Not sure what I did wrong. Any suggestions?
Donna, love your tutorials, they are always so good.

You have good taste!
Donna, the packages that you sell for table runners have material that is precut. Do you wash these fabrics before cutting them into strips?
Thank You
😄👍👍👍FANTASTIC!.THANK YOU. LOVE TUTORIALS. ❤👍👍👍❤

Just to be clear, I have not had a problem with your kits. Your products are of highest quality. These issues are my own cutting.
I steam press everything very, very flat and then hold on tight while quilting. If you can drop the feed dog on your machine that may help too. I also steam press the runner when it is all finished.
Thank you. You take such good care of us. I'll give these tips extra attention. Thanks again!
Fantastic thank you.
You're amazingly fast!😵 I couldn't even put two pieces together evenly!🙈😏

Great tutorial! Love this table runner pattern!
Donna, thank you for your great tutorials! I love the dress you are wearing. Did you make it? If so, Can you give us the pattern number, please?
ty for sharing
Nice Table Runner!
However, for any table runner, I would recommend 100% cotton batting, so if you put something hot on it - it won't melt!
Tabitha Maywald flannel also makes a good batting for runners and tableclothes. It's not as bumpy as traditional batting so if you set a glass on it, it's not likely to wobble over and spill. I've not had trouble with melting with flannel. Yay!
Nice tip, thanks!
Amethyst Samia...What a great idea, Thanks.

We use Kai scissors.
I'm sure you've been asked this many times, what kind/brand sewing machine are you using? Love your videos.
I use an industrial Consew single needle.
Hermoso tu trabajo, donde puedo comprar la tela? desde México te envío un gran abrazo
I would like to order 4 of these Halloween kits. Are they still available ? How do I go about it? Thanks
Thank you!!!
I ama beginner quilter and would love to try to make these. Do you have the patriotic runner in your online store?
Как всегда очень красиво и хорошо разъяснено ! Спасибо!
How much are the table runner kits. I love the o nb e your working with!
Hello mam ... Ilike ur work
Was that 28.00 per block? So the runner is about 112.00 plus tax? Or was the 28.00 for all 4 blocks ?
How much fabric is needed for the backing??
