I am really curious if that helps at all.

to make the 4k better you need to lower the brightness level of it, I wouldnt say it's a vlogging camera, but it's good for photos, zoom pics and quick shots

Very sharp, as noted - good colors. Definitely a long zoom, a steady hand or support a benefit. First thing I noticed is this camera is equipped only for a wrist strap, not a over the head strap. Not sure about this. Also while I understand many have no desire to read the manual - an old-timer like me needs to know how to do things, what was included in the box was more of a quick start guide than anything of substance. I have a question about the display. My shows 29:59 in the display. That number does not change with anything that I do. Ive called Canon and they have no clue. They said it should change because thats is the time remaining setting.
Can the cheaper SX420IS be used to record videos while using the 42x optical zoom? Can the battery handle 2 hour video recording. Can it be attached to a charger while recording if battery cannot handle 2 hours of recording?

When you say "the 4K is a bit SOFT, and really isn't a big improvement over the 720P".. are you saying the sharpness of the 4 K isn't as good as the 720P or are you saying that the Canon's 4K sharpness isn't as good as the camera alternatives out there? Also, wouldn't the resolution of the 4K far out distance the 720P?.. that, in itself, making it a significant improvement over the 720P? I'm a bit confused.
When exactly did I say 720p?? In the video I compared it to the 4k to the 1080p video quality, not the 720p. As for your question: The 4k isn’t a noticeable improvement over the camera’s own 1080p video. Additionally, it is also much softer than comparable cameras shooting 4k video. And what I mean by softer, is the lack of sharpness and dynamic range.
Sorry, I really meant 1080p. So, you are saying the 1080p from t6his camera is not as sharp and has lower resolution than the camera's 4K. Isn't it technically impossible for it to have lower resolution that 1080? How can that be? @@Reviewlamp
How long (timewise) can the camcorder record for until it splits the file? I tried recording a 20 minute video with it and noticed that the file was split into 2 files...

Can this charge via USB? Also, I have the Panasonic ZS70 and really don't like it. I use it exclusively for shooting 4k video. Its auto focus seems to have a really hard time and the settings are too fiddly. It's interesting that I'm looking to get rid of that camera with maybe this Canon one and you recommend it.
It should be able to charge via USB. I prefer the ZS70 for its 4K Video capability. And honestly the autofocus on this camera isn't anywhere close to perfect.
I just bought it yesterday. I've been trying and playing it around. It's been good for me but I can't wait to try it on plane spotting after winter. What's bugging me off is that when you record, and it is focused on the nearest thing like when you do vlog like waking up and it's focused in your blanket and when you switch it over to your face it has a lot of difficulties focusing on you. You have to stop recording and let it focus and start recording again. I just got it so. I'll see how it will work for me.
one thing i noticed is the microphone does not sound good at all, is there no way to use an external microphone? it has 2 usb ports on the side and i would think there would be an adapter with usb on one end and a microphone jack on the other? but i don’t know anything about cameras. help!

depending on the resolution you pick if you record 4k it may eat up the battery in less then 30 minutes 1080p 45 minutes 720p 1 hour pop in your sd 32gb yur have a solid 8 hours record

It depends on what quality you expect. The sx730 has decent video quality for a beginner. The G7x certainly has better quality but has a higher price tag. For a beginner, I recommend the SX730

I just want a compact and lightweight camera with high zoom to complement my phone in the mountains. Poor optics on smart phones are the bane of my existence when trying to take pictures of far-away subjects. Seeing the price of a new sx730 at $380 only a few years ago is so depressing... I refuse to pay more than MSRP, so I'm stuck waiting for Canon to ship out new 740 stock or for the compact camera trend to die so people start selling them at more reasonable prices. I would jump on a $400 price point.

Hi. I bought this camera.. But I felt resolution low ,after I took pictures and saw in my pc... I did this following things 1.shooting settings Image quality I selected L... it's 5184 x 3888... Is it correct.. Please tell me what I have to change in settings..
This camera performs very aggresive noise reduction which is causing a loss of resolution. Unless there is any other problem like defective lens, you have the correct setting.
I can help you and i am a photographer. Select program mode Select your images size to L Select your detail Super Fine If your shooting outside use slowest shutter iso 100 If your shooting fast moving motion but outside then use higher then 400 note that higher iso number tend to show some noise level so 800 will looks noisy. but that on you if you want to use it at that level this camera is only for point and shoot not true photography.
Have had both Canon and Panasonic cameras and am sticking to Canon. Colours are superb and really do pop out. Panasonic fails for me in menu settings. You can change a setting which automatically can trigger another change and changes the photo settings elsewhere. Have the Canon SX740 HS and the Canon G5 X Mkll with a larger 1” sensor, but much shorter zoom range, but gives much more defined photos. Goos combination and both easily carried around. Will stick to Canon in the future.
