Bangkok infrastructure and hotels were developed to attract tourists. The Philippines has ways to go. One positive: foreign tourists stay the longest, which means more tourism income as opposed to number of tourists. Staying longer means they like it more.

Transportation Bangkok vs Manila?? Bangkok wins hands down! The options are far better and more developed - bikes, trains (BTS and Metro system incl trains to the airports), cabs, tuk-tuks, busses.
The islands, well...islands in Thailand are easier to access but I do agree that they are now over commercialized.
Food - no contest. Thai over Filipino for sure.
Language? I am probably a little gifted as I pick up languages relatively easy if I take an interest in it. I speak several European and Asian languages and find the Thai language more alluring.
Thai people, deeply rooted in Thai culture, are generally less inclusive of foreigners at the first instance than Filipinos but they are no less hospitable. Put in the effort to break the barrier and things change dramatically.
Thailand is very expat-friendly. It is probably one of the first countries in South East Asia to streamline immigration processes for foreign talent making visa attainments more transparent.
The stronger diversity in the Thai economy - agriculture, manufacturing, services etc are geared for international trade from the onset so plenty of services are readily available to accommodate expat needs. Schools, medical services etc.
Flight connectivity out of Bangkok to pretty much anywhere in the world is far better than out of Manila. More airlines fly into and out of Bangkok than Manila or even Kuala Lumpur, and they're second to only Singapore.
While both countries have their charms and attractions, the experiences are incomparable to a large extent.
I can totally understand why a middle-aged monolingual American with limited international exposure and spends a lot of time in Mexico is attracted to the Philippines. I'd probably be the same.

I am Thai and you can ask any Thai how much they hate their local taxis. They won’t pick up any Thai near tourist area (and sometimes other area in the evening too)ever. They just want tourists so they can ask for “one price” fare. No way I would pay. So, I usually walk away 2-3 kilos from the spot to get a taxi. For Tuk Tuk, most Thais can guess how much they should pay from the place they wanna go and they can negotiate the fare from there. It’s almost impossible for tourists to know this. Using app is probably the best option.

Thailand has better food than the Philippines. I am not saying Filipino food is bad, because Filipinos love their own food. But Thai food is loved by all.
Thailand has better infrastructure and better quality services for tourists and locals.
Also, Thailand has some interesting architecture.
    They have developed river tourism.
However, everything else is better in the Philippines.
    1. Visas are easier.
    2. English language is spoken and then, you have American-style education and Christianity. So, if you are a Western expat, you will feel way more at home.
    3. People are a lot less racist overall and less nationalistic in the PH. You can make friends more easily. In Thailand, a lot more racist people who despise you of you are not Oriental. There is a lot more stigma for a Thai lady walking with a white or a black man.
    4. The Philippines is a lot less class conscious. In Thailand, social classes are a lot more pronounced and there is a lot more class snobbery. More greed. Money is like a God to them. If you are a white guy who is not rich, then they call you " Farang kee nok" , which is something like "white trash" and mock and make fun of you.
    5. The Philippines is a lot happier than Thailand overall. It is the real land of smiles. Because in the PH, social mobility is greater. In Thailand, there are a lot more unhappy, sullen people with a chip on their shoulder.
    6. After a while, you get tired of the barking of " You! You! You! Farang! Farang! Farang!" . I'd rather be called Joe and Amerikano.
So, I will take the Philippines any time. And if I like Thai food, I will just go to a Thai restaurant in the Philippines.

@reigninblood123 they are not dangerous ph island.
Behave respectfull. Not behave like an entitled p from the usa/west.
Remember it is an underlying conflicts between Philippine Central government of Manila vs Mindanao.
Mindanso was not part of the ph. Until usa GAVE it to Manila after WW2.
Mindanao successfully fought against the spanish invaders for many hundred years.
Mindanao natives are not subjugated and programmed into becoming part of mainstream non-muslims.
So yes there is underlying conflict in Mindanao between Mindanao and Manila.
Manila uses politics and economic warfare to try to subjugate Mindanao into submission. They do not want Mindanso (the rich breadbasket and resources to get their own independence back).
So as a foreigner we should learn about the conflicts, so we can stay out of Manila and Mindanao politics.
When westerner behave arrogant and behave more like entitled invaders, then yes that will rub Mindanao people the wrong way. And some may then target specific disrespectful westerners if a westerner has let his tongue run too much.
Remember it is a VERY VERY sensitive topic for the locals.
      So stay respectful. Avoid drama.
Currently sort of peacefull, but as long as the Mindanao natives do not have proper automony etc... it will burst up conflicts again and again.

And there Ain't many likeness between the 2 nations according to my experience except both called se-asia on a map..
I would say that Thailand is a real asian Buddhist country and rich now with a complicated 5 tone asian language that is radically different from western languages same with the buddist asian mindset.
And Philippines is a Catholic kind of westernised island country, with multiple languages that many seems to be based on spanish and they use simple "Filipino English " because of it.
And the island situation is another thing..move to "wrong" island and u have typhoons and storms and even volcanos many times per year and sometimes no major hospital there.

    1. Beach // More island, more beach. That's normal to find a lot of beach in PH. Natural feature that unique to PH.
    2. People // We tend to leave westerners without interrupt. To us, tourists are our guests who come to relax.
You couldn't communicate in Thai and judege them like typical folks. They couldn't speak english or may possible to speak a couple broken english words. I don't know what circumstances or how you approach them. The case you present seems far-fetched from my experiences. We understand you can't speak thai but we never force anybody to speak our language. What they might said is recommend you to learn some basics to accomondate yourself while interact with local. Or they may joke like ... speak thai when you're in Thailand. Clearly you don't get it or take it seriously. I'll try to express this concern issue to those who may not know that it can cause misunderstanding.
In general, many people could not speak english. So they may avoid to interact with foreignerr in normal situation. However if somebody got serious injure or accident, people around there will come to help for sure. Obviously, language barrier makes things harder for locals. In Thai, we do not answer if we're not sure. Since we scare that it's gonna cause problem for those who ask questions. Just say nothing rather than uncertain answers. This kind of cultures you may not familiar with. At the same time we're not going to tell you that we don't know.
    3. Transportation // I guess you had experience with Tuk Tuk which barely used by local for daily commute. Tuk-Tuk driver/Taxi mainly came from uneducated family. They got bad reputations. Government try to solve it in many ways for decades. In any cases, there are many transport options you can choose.
    4. Too much tourist // We coulnd't help but you went to Pattaya and expect to see local. If you wish to interact with local, go to Bang-saen which prefer by local more than Pattaya.
    5. Language /// No offend to you and PH friends. But Thai language is our national pride. It's one of the cultures we preserve from our ancestors.. If language is your problem, I'm sorry to hear that.
Many tourists came to our country with some attitude that we consider backward and uncompatible to our core values. Lack manners in public space. Or come with an idea of superiority without respect. They hold everything on their shoulder and never let it goes. Keep attaching it into their heart either good or bad. I know it's hard to shake it off during the hoiliday or vacations. But I sugget to leave it back home. Just chill and relax. Observe and goes with the flows. Life is at the moment you breath. Embrace it. It's not in the past or future. Cheers !!!

As an American Christian, the religion of the country is important as well as the safety of the country. If you thought Ukraine was safe, you would have been caught off guard when Russia attacked. You have to know which country the country you want to live in is siding with. I would take countries off my list with strong family dynasties and controlling cultures like the Philippines. Countries also that would weaken under pressure from Russia or China. I lived in the Philippines for two years and it's a corrupt, envious, greed-oriented, family dynasty, and Catholic-controlled country. If you're a man, don't get trapped into a young beautiful Filipina, who will eventually have her whole family tree stripping you of your money. Beware!

Philippines will be building the SKY MANILA, they would put Metro Manila's 100 km x 100 km land area up by 50 meters using 500,000 posts.
There will be three levels, the ground level is the existing land, all vehicles would use the ground level,
hundreds of MRT and LRT would use the second level and therefore reducing massive amount of vehicles using the ground level and less traffic,
the third level would be vehicle less area, yes no cars, trucks, jeepneys.
SKY MANILA is walking , jogging, biking, scooting area. It will be full of skyscrapers no less than 300 meters tall, condos, hotels and offices.
Hundreds of parks, huge malls, millions of restaurants, thousands of hotels, several thousands of factories using all electric.
All vehicles will be full electric, non-electric vehicle are not allowed.
Many swimming pools, basketball, tennis, football courts, and many sports venues.
    Hundreds of entertainment arenas.
It will have airport for helicopters or any vertical take off planes. This will be finished in 2035. Flood will be the thing in the past.
