GIO! Do you know back in the 90’s girls in The Philippines actually looked like the girl in your thumbnail?? That was PRE-fastfood on every corner and the explosion in pork consumption.
Good interview Geo. I’ve been here now in the Philippines for over 2 1/2 months and to be honest I do not want to go back to the states. I’ve been constantly traveling around to different islands while making Cebu Lapu-lapu my homebase between traveling to different islands. It’s a great area due to its very close vicinity to the airport and also the ferry piers. I would definitely consider living here in a condo lifestyle at least for a year or so. I have my eye on the Valencia area in Negros Oriental for a home as well 🙌 The traffic definitely is bad but worse than Cebu city but it’s challenging and exciting to drive in my opinion
I would much prefer a house in a compound with a garage. I like the space and to garden fresh vegetables. I also like to tinker with projects as a hobby, and a condo just isn't practical for this. Having space between the neighbors in a detached dwelling has so many advantages, and let's be honest about traveling around the philippines that the scenery doesn't change much and your money could be used for other things. Once you have traveled to all the hot spots, you will be happy to be back home in your own environment.
i lived in condos in cebu city for 7 years, i moved 5 times because of noise. The walls are thin, u can hear everything. The floors are tile with no rugs, u can hear the person walking around above u. If they are fat, u can hear them stomping around. Condos now have Airbnb, so your neighbors can come and go and do not sleep. Most of the condos i had no pest problems, 2 times i had ants. But if u buy the gel ant killer it works wonders, they take the bait back to the colony and it works. Cockroaches sometimes, but u have to cover your shower drain and close all sinks. Most of the time the guards would investigate the noise problems, and ask them to stop. Good thing about condos is that karoke is not allowed, but screaming babies can be bad. The guards are strict with visitors at most condos. just make sure u register your gf with the guards. Moving can be a hassle also, they want to know if u are stealing anything from the condo. They will look at what u are moving and question it, or require a note from the owner what u can move. I never had a problem with barking dogs from the street, and no karoke from the street. Mactan is no good, traffic and not many good places to eat or hang out. If u get a house, go there at night before u rent. Listen for dogs and music, and partying. The average rent i paid for a newer studio was 20k, which included wifi and some channels on TV. One bedrooms are around 25k and up, for newer condos. I stayed at the following condos,,,La Guaridia was old and not as nice, Solinea next to Ayala was nice and newer, Both Avida towers which have noise problems inside and outside, One Pavellion was the worst, noise from neighbors constantly and nothing done about it, another IT park with Park in the name,,,,i forgot name,,,but it is across street from Jollibee and Mabuhay Towers,,,it was noise with ants, but the guy above me got kicked out. Some doors open next to your neighbor, so u can hear your neighbors door coming and going. This was bad for noise and pests,,,,,,,
100%. I have been in Cebu philippines 7 months and i've moved twice from condo to condo because of construction noise within the building. Walls are paper then you hear everything four floors away.. truly a sad situation. How thailand vietnam and malaysia have managed to advance so far in the last twenty years while the philippines has stayed the same

Hi Gio, I'll be in Cebu in Sept 20, for a long vacation. Hope to get to meet you when I get to Dumaguete. Really like your education us on the Island in and out. Thank you.
I've been here since 2009, and lived in subdivisions and condos, I like the extra things that come with condos like the gym or swimmingpool. I prefer living in a townhouse/subdivision.. You are often stuck with a really small living area when in a condo while townhomes have much more space and are often way cheaper. Almost forgot. When looking for a rental, the price is depending on the area. Like BGC is expensive and Mandaluyong or Fairview would be cheaper. Long term rents are in general cheaper then short-term. Also, don't be afraid to talk down the rent with a few thousand PHP. It may not be much over one month but taken over a year, it can make a big difference.
Obviously the cost in the 🇵🇭 is by far a great deal compared to the USA. However a person has to know what they want. A nice modest place can be inexpensive however sometimes the noise can be annoying. I recently spent 6 months in the 🇵🇭. I bounced around to a many different places trying to avoid noise. However I still prefer the 🇵🇭 over the USA for a lot of different reasons despite the noise. Thanks for sharing a very good and informative interview 👌🏾.
I loved in Mactan Newtown for 12 months - at 8 Newtown - and my expenses were the same - about $1200 USD a month. Everything you need to live well is within minutes of walking. Girls can be expensive - so watch it in that department.

I've always said the Condos are way over priced no matter how you slice it. You can't trust the hoa dues. It's a condo in a 3rd world country. Yesterday I had a visitor from PI that lives in Dumeggety, Philippines. He pays $350 a mo for a 4 bedroom, wifi & water include, nice place. AC $100 for electric.
@@murrayspiffy2815 You mentioned that everything is within minutes of walking distance. Does this include a fitness gym other than the one(s) in the residential building?
Even though I’ve only been using Mactan Lapu-lapu as a homebase for 2 1/2 months now the place I’m staying is literally walking distance to the airport and there’s no noticeable pollution because of the airport. If there was I would be gone. also no noise pollution from the planes but depending on where you live and how close to the street you live on, there is always motorcycles or scooters with no mufflers, but that happens everywhere
