  • FINALLY the New VW Transporter has been unveiled. The long awaited replacement of the Volkswagen Transporter T6.1
    Something is missing and also there is something very confusing. What do you think?
    The ID Buzz, Multivan and new Transporter appeared in a TH-cam video from Germany and now we have the UK Press Release with more information and photos.
    Is this the Transporter T7? What about a new Campervan?
    Will therer be a California Ocean?
    This is from the Ford Volkswagen collaboration and I know this is very controversial. There is a real mix bag of feelings for it.
    I look forward to seeing it in then flesh.
    Campervan conversions are sure to be developed, but will you buy Ford or wait until 2024 or even 2025

    I bought a VW Transporter T6 Kombi Highline van 140bhp diesel SWB with tailgate.
    I have lots more to do though, I have a new electrical system, using Victron components and a Lithium LIFEPO4 battery, so I obviously need to install some power devices. I have a new sound system, with Focal speakers and ibus 2.1 amp, Playstation PS4, which will be removable, TV's on headrests.
    Lots for me to look forward too and it would be nice to take you on the journey.
    Vanlife for me is just beginning, it's a great adventure and I'm loving it. 😍

    I’m glad they are making a new “transporter” but I won’t be buying a forporter, I’m sticking with my t6 as there is really no appeal in a rebadged ford transit

    Have brought 6 transporters over the years for the running of the business the last on was a 22 model, so will see if i can make this one last for 7 years, as certainly wont be buying into the ford vw brand with the troublesome ford wetbelt system, not a chance.

      That seems to be a concern for many. Will have to see what the other engines are like.
      The hybrid is of interest

    The converters could just convert the Ford's which are available now and stick on the VW badges in the right places, job done :)

    It doesn't bother me in the slightest, it will look like a new Transporter as far as I can tell from the pics. If it's a good van, why should it matter.

      It doesn’t matter. It’s not something that concerns me. I imagine it will be a good van. Both large brands having an input, it must be good

      I suspect it’s going to come down to whether they’ve taken the best of both or the most economical of both and combined them 🤷‍♂️. Either way that’s the future, don’t think I’ll sell my 5.1 or 6 yet just in case 😉

    It looks good , but it is a Vw badged transit ! That me never buying another Vw 😢

      So many increased costs in development, I can see why they have done it. Will be very interesting to see how it effects sales figures

      I’m sure both vans will sell very well , it will be interesting to see what the price difference will be for the new transit v the Vw transit 😏 keep up the great work 👍

    Wellhouse leisure have already got 10 of these to start converting . They also have the PHEV version I believe.

      Yes quite a few converters have ordered them. Will be really interesting to see what happens.

    The biggest problem with these Fords and these Ford-pretending-to-be-a-VWs is the use of Ford's wet belt engines. Count me out.

      Hopefully they have improved that? If not count me out. Heard of numerous people that had the service done when ford said to, but still had timing chain failure.

      @@davem4131 Ford have just announced a major recall on their Ecoboost engines, so hopefully there's a major improvement on the cards.

    Have the new customs have same wet belt engines. I was hoping vw would use a chain in theirs

    If VW are daft enough off to replace T series vehicles with a Ford I guess that this is due to cost saving so a big no from me

      Cost saving is huge. The development costs are huge, especially with the constant changes in regulations.
      Other brands have been sharing parts/engines for many years.

    I’d guess ‘Caravelle’ refers to a minibus variant known in the UK as a ‘Shuttle’ which confusingly is known as ‘Caravelle’ in Europe.
    T6 Caravelle (UK) is Multivan in Europe
    T6 Shuttle (UK) is Caravelle in Europe.
    Seems like they are standardising model names across territories which makes sense!

    Transits have a bad name and are known for having problems with engines and transmission at as low as 120,000 kms

    It‘‘s not longer build in Hannover, Germany, it will come from Turkey, like Ford. Don‘t like this 😢

      That’s right, but hopefully it will be a better van. I know some say its heritage has gone, however the original microbus (splitty) was replaced by the ID Buzz. Similar to the Caravelle Multivan I mention, the blood lines (effectively) are blurred

    VW has completely lost it! It’s unbelievable that VW is now replacing one of its icons by a Ford derivative! I never could believe this was what VW planned to do with its Transporter van. It’s a shame and I will never buy a new transporter again. I have owned almost every predecessor of this new Transporter, but now it’s not a VW anymore! VW gambled completely on the EV models, but lost dearly. They have learned the Chinese how to build proper cars and now the Chinese are even too competitive for VW. VW has signed its own death penalty and is now completely dependent on Chinese technology for their EV’s and on Ford for a few of their iconic commercial cars, like the Amarok and now also the Transporter! If I am buying a new one, I better chose the ford, because that’s the original now and it will most probably much cheaper than it’s VW clone! You can’t imagine that VW is replacing one of its other icons, for example the Golf, by a ford focus. Sorry VW, but it is really a very bad decision to replace your Transporter icon by a ford transit. Shame on you to squander at least one of your icons!😢

    Great informative vid.Does ask lots of questions.I think you're right that people will buy it..
    ..eventually.I see this is not the 1st VW/FORD joint venture.

      Thank you. Yes there are others Transit Connect/caddy, Ranger/Amarok.
      It makes sense for financial reasons, but it will be interesting to see how the sales go

    This is going to test how powerful the "Brand" is. For sure VW/Audi and other co owned platforms have shared parts for years. But it is going to test that to the limit... same factory / management / quality processes etc etc and its also a joint venture v's different brands within the same umbrella company. I bought a Westfalia Kelsey built on the Transit Custom because I liked the twin sliding doors and it was that little bit bigger than the T6.1 - but I was buying for those features and not the badge - but millions will still buy based on the Brand. If I see any beneficiary market position wise for doing this over the next 5 years it is for Ford and not VW.

    I gonna pay extra for the VW Badge. I not gonna sit behind a Ford badge. I do not buy Ford, but now... I kind a have to :-)

    I've just this week picked up my New Transit Custom work van , I've had Transits for 40 years and this is the least likeable Transit I've had it could be a Renault,Vauxhall , Nissan basically just dull , it's full of tech, loads of nonsense you don't need , but I go home park it up, jump in my T6 and immediately it feels better in every way , if the VW is similar to the Ford it will fail for Transporter owners

      Interesting. I haven’t driven one yet, but think the outgoing Transit actually drives pretty well.

    I guarantee it’ll be a better van than the T6 in a drivability way, but it won’t have the appeal and won’t look as good. I maybe wrong but judging by the ford looks then No!

      There is, it’s built by Westfalia. My point was the factory fit swivel seats, heating systems etc may not be available of the VW as factory fit

    Your excitement about the new transporter power train will be short lived as firstly Ford have already pullled out of further collaboration. Secondly the power train will have to be fully electric after 2035 as all vehicles will need to be. I also think this will happen earlier as lots of countries as well as California have made laws to stop selling petrol and diesel powered vehicles much earlier than 2030. Also, range won’t matter because of the increasing charging infrastructure.

      2035 is the current target , which will again be moved as infrastructure will not meet demands in the time frame , American markets are a different proposition to Europe , the medium sized van is the bread and butter of every tradesman , small buisness ,the Transit will sell by the Ton , and if the T7? is different enough with VW van heritage still intact it will also sell

      11 years is a long time. Many people will have bought a few new vehicles in that time.
      The infrastructure is improving, but it’s very costly. Charging away from home is expensive and it’s also problematic with so many chargers broken, already being used etc.
      IF electric is the future as soon as they say, vast improvement is required and quickly

    Hopefully it will have improved security and the wet cambelt design is more reliable….Anyhow I’m sure the hypocrites will be queuing up to buy a tarted up Kombi when the modding companies start selling them for 75k

      The security is definitely something that requires improvement. Time will tell

    I would say VW realise that most builders etc don't care between ford and VW. The camper market does and that is why they are not destroying their heritage and doing that on the multi van platform (presuming this is different from ford)

      Absolutely , I would add that if it's for work it's a Custom , leisure its a Transporter , all the Transit range are the best selling Vans in the sector , nobody has ever been close in regards to works vehicles numbers

      ⁠would it be worth putting all your infectious energy into enjoying your van and showing us how the great products you review work in real life, rather than something that tbh no one other than vw themselves can influence (I’m an utter vw nut btw, but not going to lose sleep over it)

      I actually like the new van. How much it’s VW I don’t know, will people buy it, absolutely. I would still buy this over the Ford

      @@StaycationLifestyle I probably would buy for the badge if I didn’t have to consider budget but how much is it really worth? If say there is a 6k difference, that’s an extra 6k you can spend on the conversion on a van that shares the engine, chassis and gearbox. If you look at it like that, I couldn’t care less if the badge was round or oval as you could invest in a better camper.
