Of course there are alternatives from a £1 million Earth roamer camper to a tent and a £500 car. You miss the point, In that you can have a brand new camper conversion in an Elgrand or Alphard for around the £18k mark and that includes the vehicle that come with between 250 & 289 bhp V6 , 4x4, luxury leather interior, twin powered doors and tailgate etc etc, with full service history 40-50k miles and are a better quality and reliability than the VW offering. There is also a 'scene' for if you into that sort of thing, and if you are a boy racer then the 280bhp versions make mincemeat of any VW van on the road. There is no logic in spending £80+k on a camper, its just daft, so daft in fact that Im mulling over some ideas on the back of decades campervaning experience for some 'must haves' to bring to market for the VW camper scene, as I want in on the action of liberating these types of their hard earned cash. Each to their own I guess.
The very last sentence sums up everything. People choose to spend their money how they wish. As crazy as the price may seem. We know you can spend less, but no matter what anyone says, people will still spend how they wish. They could choose a cheap car, as it does the same as an expensive one. A cheap house, because it still has the same function as a more expensive one. Food and drink, people prefer different brands. People spend big money on Apple products, but don’t the cheaper ones do the same? I am of course coming up with ridiculous statements here, because the value is found by the purchaser. I appreciate the Elgrand and the Allhard, but I wouldn’t buy one, nor several other models. I would however like a Marco Polo, but they are crazy money too. I couldn’t spend £80k on a camper and I do understand your point, but it’s your last line what means these vans will continue to sell AND retain strong sale values going forward.
There is a shower and a toilet. Are you aware of the base van costs? Yes you could easily buy another brand for much less, however generally have far worse residuals in the future. Doesn’t particularly matter what vehicle you have you can still visit the same places. This size van is a daily driver, used for general tasks as well as a camper. You could buy a much bigger van with toilet and shower cubicle, but would probably be too big for a daily. For reference though, these £60k vans, where £39,999 only a few years ago. The base van price has largely driven that increase
Vw California are cars that you have a rough nights sleep in . They are not anywhere near adequate for comfortable living for any length of time compared to less expensive compact narrow Motorhome ….. waste of money in my opinion . People buy them for image , I like to buy for image also but on top of my list is comfort practicality
They are daily drivers and that’s a big factor. They are a type of vehicle that suits some buyers (an incredible amount) but not others. The new variant of California is currently set to be built on the Multivan platform, which I’m sure will still sell well, yet many will say it’s too small. It’s difficult to argue against them when they are so popular and many people enjoy holidays in them every year. Would it be more comfortable in a bigger vehicle? Absolutely yes, but there is compromise as in the daily driver aspect. Would I spend that much on a small camper, no, but many will
There are 5.4 m long transit camper vans that have the shower , the toilet and lounge areas that convert into beds . The width of them are only the width of a van and the length can be parked in any normal space . Only restriction would be height barriers . They are mostly less expensive than the California vans . People buy all sorts of different things in life from completely different requirements but I do believe that a lot of people who come into the leisure vehicle market by way of California vans are not aware of the less expensive but much more versatile alternatives but hey each to there own . I believe the overall better experience is not with the California or nugget type van 🚐
@@Johndoe10007 There are Transporters with the same layout, showers and toilets in the back. Everyone has different preferences and budgets. The Transporters hold their value well, other brands not so much so. I was having a conversation at the show regarding a Transit conversion and it was said that the problem they had was residual values. There are lots of other brands producing similar sized vehicles that are much cheaper, but regardless we can all visit the same places 👍🏼
Load of nonsense , all that thought all that cost but no toilet no privacy no shower . Do the designers spend days on end working on design and spec but forget about the basic human requirement for a toilet 🚻
There is a portable toilet, which many use in a pop up tent. Not perfect, but it’s a small vehicle, that can be used daily. I’d much rather have trips to the beach in a Transporter sized vehicle, than a much bigger Motorhome.
🤔 they nearly all have toilets ! Stored in one of the cupboards! Some do have showers, they are mainly specced to what people want. Don’t get the no privacy comment either 🤷♂️ yer they are not giant motor homes, but they fit on your drive, can be used every day, fit through a drive through, and nearly all car parks, are very economical and anyone can drive them. It’s all about choice not nonsense at all.
@@darrenwhyman4539 Absolutely right 👍🏼 Some people may say a Lamborghini costs £250k but only has 2 seats, I can’t carry my children. Different vehicles for different purposes 😀
The nonsense seems to be coming from you. We’ve had a T2, T3, T4, T5 and T6. None had permanent toilet or shower facilities and we seem to have managed fine. We can go anywhere, park anywhere , get 40+ mpg and use the vehicle every day for everyday use, remove the seat/bed and use as a capacious van.
The designers of these things fit gadgets and frills to sell their product. They give no thought to actually using them. A tojlet is an essential piece of kit. I always wonder where you put your wet gear when it's not stopped p*ssing it down for 5 days in the arctic circle or N Scotland. I built my own lwb poptop with experience of 40 years in a canvas tent, toilet dry hanging area, double bed. Having travelled throughout europe incuding Iceland, Faroes even Wales I have found the most interesting places usually suffer from excess precipitation! We seldom see you tube videos showing set up in sh*te weather
All of these have toilets and showers. Regarding wet gear, most people utilise an awning. Not all converters are owners, however each of those in this video, do use Transporters. Sounds like you had some great adventures
This is nuts these prices, I've been campervaning for over 4 decades and I can say with some authority that you do not need to spend this kind of money to go campervaning. For example for £15-£18 k you can have a 2010 luxury spec Nissan Elgrand campervan with 250hp, 4x4, twin sliding electric doors, birds eye surround cameras, satnav, front and rear ac, etc etc, with about 40-50k miles and all you need for a fantastic camping trip. Then spend the £50 -60k you save by taking more time off work to go away in your van. Its not rocket science kids, don't be fooled by this nonsense.
You’re right, but the same could be said about anything, it’s about choice. You could buy a Nissan Micra instead of an expensive car. I totally get your point, these prices have gone crazy. You don’t even need to spend £15k on an Elgrand though, you could get the same campervanning experience from a £5k van and save even more money though. People buy these for different reasons. Some enjoy the “Transporter Scene” the strong residuals, the aftermarket options. Have you seen the price of some of the new Mercedes Sprinter conversions? Getting towards nearly £200k

There certainly are, some very good converters out there. Problem is there are ones that look good, but aren’t 🤦🏼♂️ It’s a minefield. There are no mass produced ones in this video, that’s for sure.
Maybe its me, but I cant fathom why people would spend 140K on a van that of that size no matter how well its spec'ed out. I dont mean to sound judgemental, each to their own, to me they are way to small and cramped. No doubt they have the advantage of being smaller giving access to parking, easier to drive and cheaper to run etc.
🤣 If only I was. I don’t even get invited on their press events (yet), maybe one day. I just like the vans and have done for years. VW and Converters sell them, demand is high, so are they overpriced?
WARNING, before you splash out £65K, by 2028 46% of all vans sold must be fully electric. Otherwise manufactures incure a £15K fine for every non ZEV van sold. This will mean a lot of petrol stations will start to disappear or be converted to EV charging. Your loverly Transporter may crash in value. . .
I think it will be quite sometime before we start seeing petrol stations disappearing. Isn’t it meant to be 70% by 2030 also? It’s going to happen quite quick (unless things change again) There is currently very limited options for a campervan which is fully electric. We will see more hybrids over the next year or so. What will happen to prices is a good question, there are arguments for both values reducing and also increasing

£60K
No shower
No toilet etc etc
Some of you “experts” fall for these cons every time
Get a grip
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Also what about campsites (most have toilets) most towns/villages have toilets and most cafe’s do 😂
The nonsense seems to be coming from you.
Unless It got a toilet and shower, I'm not interested
They all have both 🤷🏻♂️
The designers of these things fit gadgets and frills to sell their product.

There are so many designers out there now that they canbuild your van moure like a fabulous home all individually designed for 25.000 you provide your van or they get them for you at amazing prices and they are a lot cheaper than these mass produced ones which awful and boring and badly designed
There certainly are, some very good converters out there. Problem is there are ones that look good, but aren’t 🤦🏼♂️ It’s a minefield.
There are no mass produced ones in this video, that’s for sure.
They're basically all the same
🤷🏻♂️ There are huge differences 🤣
This guys delivery is shocking
Care to elaborate? 🤷🏻♂️ Perhaps provide some help and advice to learn from.
Happy to listen on how to improve.
@@StaycationLifestyleyour delivery is excellent
Click bait... Nothing different here total waste of time
It’s not clickbait. They are incredible and the last one is VERY different 🤷🏻♂️
😂 You should probably take a closer look at conversions if you think these aren’t different. They are worlds apart from the usual rubbish
I know what you mean, it’s a tremendous amount of money. There is a market for them though, as they sell and this one sold at the show
Trendy with younger folks with mucho wonga
@@JoolsUK very well put. I'm neither young nor trendy. But even if I had 100K to spend it wouldn't be on a transporter size van for sure.
I don’t think the buyers are that young surprisingly. I am due to speak to them soon and will find out
I guess for someone with ridiculous amounts of money who loves Transporters, it makes sense.
Way overpriced vw as usual and your paid by vw
🤣 If only I was. I don’t even get invited on their press events (yet), maybe one day. I just like the vans and have done for years.
VW and Converters sell them, demand is high, so are they overpriced?
Stop talking like an AI ROBOT, it spoils the reviews.
If only I had their knowledge also. Understood 👍🏼
vw camper van the most overpriced vehicle in history
WARNING, before you splash out £65K, by 2028 46% of all vans sold must be fully electric. Otherwise manufactures incure a £15K fine for every non ZEV van sold. This will mean a lot of petrol stations will start to disappear or be converted to EV charging. Your loverly Transporter may crash in value. . .
I think it will be quite sometime before we start seeing petrol stations disappearing.
Isn’t it meant to be 70% by 2030 also? It’s going to happen quite quick (unless things change again)
There is currently very limited options for a campervan which is fully electric. We will see more hybrids over the next year or so.
What will happen to prices is a good question, there are arguments for both values reducing and also increasing
@@StaycationLifestyleYou may be right, but remember thousands of van drivers were caught out by ULEZ. They just didn't see it coming. . .
@@flashback9966 truth is, we don’t really know. Some are saying it will completely change by then. There is hope for synthetic fuels.
Who knows. But you are right regarding ULEZ.
@@StaycationLifestyle Quick question , I’ve been looking for a van to convert, think I’ve found one for around £40k, looking at using Out and About campers for the conversion. Any thoughts on company.?
Cheers

@@nigeljohnson6596 What age/spec/engine etc van for £40k? By the time you add a conversion your up to the value you can buy a brand new camper from an NCC approved manufacturer
