  • What I thought was a quick fix, turned into something more!! The leaves and debris from the cabin air filter fell into the heater blower fan when I removed the old filter! The debris caused a fan imbalance, resulting in a very loud fan noise - not good!
I used an endoscope camera to determine that the fan did contain leaves and set out to remove them. Ultimately, I had to remove the heater blower fan to get everything clean.

Great video. My 2015 Silverado squirrel cage fan got nuts from mice nesting on the air filter. It's amazing that GM cannot come up with a better plan to keep the vermin and debris out. Thanks for the video.

Getting those back 2 screws out is maddening. Instead, I took the air filter out and stuck a flexible vacuum hose (from a dryer cleaning kit) into the blower motor and sucked out the single leaf that was causing my AC to be extremely loud. Very quick and easy!

I’m a gm tech and the trick is to try and vacuum the leaves before you pull the filter out. Push down on the filter and squeeze a vacuum hose, preferably a skinny vacuum hose attachment and vacuum as much as you can.

I’m gonna try this but worst case do what he did too.

I took our craftsman leaf blower and put it in reverse mode and it sucked out the 2 little leaves that were in there. I had the wife do the honor of turning the car on and putting the AC on full blast.

I spent the majority of this maintenance on that right corner screw. Didn’t put it back in. Great video 👍

I know that feeling! Haha. Worst case, you take it in - but at least you tried yourself first. Good luck!

@@ificanfixitsocanyou I got it!!! Problem fixed thanks to your video! Several leafs stuck in blower motor. That back right screw was a real tough one to get out and back in but besides that not bad at all.

I take a piece of plastic sheet made from a plastic cutting board sized for the filter and slide it under the old filter before removal so most of the debris stays out of the fan. Not 100% but I fabricated a 90 degree bend for my shop vac for debris removal.

For debris use a wet/dry vacuum and for odors use a ozone machine .

i pulled my filter. dropped some leaves i guess, because when i cleaned and reinstalled, the fan makes a humming noise... theres gotta be a better way than dropping the whole fan assembly.

I read somewhere where you should slide in a piece of cardboard under the filter, before removing. That will catch the stuff that's on top of the filter that inevitably falls, and then you slide that carboard out. I guess that could work?

The disassembly, while a little tedious, isn't that bad! (Aside from that one screw in the back-right corner in the foot well - grr). You can do it!
