      @@SnippetGuitar besides "Ode to Joy", this song I dedicate myself to learning. My dad has a harsh way with words, tho his heart is big, and he's very loving toward his wife. My point was to play for them, since she could no longer speak due to ALS. I learned "Claire de Lune", her favorite piano song her Uncle used to play when she was a younger girl. I thank God He took her, because the ALS thing was panic attacks, scared for your life, not able to breathe, talk, eat, walk. it's an actual hell on earth. I'm grieving still bc 2 hours after we visited, she passed away, right after moving to the west side of Washington State, since my father couldn't handle carrying her back & forth to the toilet any longer. I told her "I don't want to put words in your mouth, and I don't want you to go, but if you're ready, lady, I got your back until the very end, and we will see each other on the other side."... and after I left, she passed away. Maybe it was denial, but my dad thought she had a year left... but anyone who could see, knew better. Every message she sent, every time I called, they said she was doing alright, and because of COVID, I couldn't risk driving out to visit. Thank you. I'm sorry for getting emotional on you, but this song describes my father, to my mother. "Every time I try to tell you, the words just come out wrong, so I have to tell you I love you, in a song." It's more than beautiful. thank you for giving me this opportunity, even if it's too late.

    This is AMAZING!! Thank you so so much. Croce’s music sounds so simple yet there are so many complexities in Jim’s and Maury’s guitar riffs that make their music what it is. I would be so grateful if you ever found the time to learn and teach a few of his other songs: Box #10, One Less Set Of Footsteps, Walking Back To Georgia, Tomorrow’s Gonna Be A Brighter Day, and/or Learned the Hard Way Every Time. There really aren’t any good lessons on these that I’ve found. Thank you again!

    I really love this style tutorial! You pick everything apart so thoroughly and that is SO nice. And on top of that you put all the parts together in a separate video as a cover, which is seriously so nice because we can here what we are learning. It’s obvious that you’ve put a lot of work into your videos and it really shows. Subscribed with the bell on. Keep making videos please!

    Learning this on piano - I'm very happy for the included notation above the tablature.
    If I was to make a suggestion, since there's only two distinct progressions with that little variation in the verse, your in-detail explanation after the first playthrough should focus on playing through those sections at half tempo instead of the pause/explanation/pause/explanation after each bar.
    It's an astonishingly in-depth tutorial, but I think that someone new to guitar might get confused by the wording used to describe each finger movement. It might be better to show than tell in this situation.

    • @SnippetGuitar
      @SnippetGuitar  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've since refined the explanation process in later videos to make it less wordy and also less cutting back to previous bars. In this first video I was new and was trying to be excessively detailed :) Thanks for your comment!

    Great tutorial indeed. However, I find the open G string in several parts very strange (sounding) since this note is not in the key of A major. I doubt it's in the original (although that is hard to hear). I think the final eighth note is sometimes muffled or, when it's possible, it's the note that's in the chord (e.g. B in B minor on the third string).

      I was playing a Walden G3030CEQ on this video. It does have a Fishman Prefix Pro preamp, but I wasn't using it here. This was one of my really early videos where I was recording the individual notes and then splicing them together on six separate tracks on Audacity. Took ages - so glad I changed my method!

    • @SnippetGuitar
      @SnippetGuitar  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a Walden 3030GEQ Supernatura, but the guitar doesn't really sound like that. In my early days of recording like in this video I recorded each note separately beforehand and then spliced them together afterwards. Took ages and ended up sounding like this. I quite liked the sound originally but prefer recording the actual guitar as I play the whole song now.

The part where Jim is playing over the solo is difficult to make out as even when panned left and slowed down to bring out Jim's part, the notes of the solo still come through clearly and it's tricky to make out what is being played. You're right though - it seems that Jim mirrors parts of the guitar solo on the bars you mentioned. Last note in first measure of tab shown should be G#, you have G natural

    • @SnippetGuitar
      @SnippetGuitar  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is played as an open G natural note to help with the transition to the C#m chord. This happens at the end of some measures in the song when changing to the next chord as it's not always possible to keep holding the fretted note and changing from or to a barre chord. I slowed down and carefully checked Croce's version of the song and he does this too, so the way he plays it is represented correctly in the tab.

    how does your playing sound robotic

      It's to do with how I used to record the guitar. The notes were all recorded individually and then spliced together in Audacity. An extremely time-consuming way of doing it (many, many weeks) that got the timing perfect, but gave it an unnatural midi sound. In later videos I no longer use this method and record the video and sound in one go. Less time consuming and sounds better!

    Very impressive, but can u make a lesson for guitar work mixed with rythem and lead?

    • @SnippetGuitar
      @SnippetGuitar  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No - I tried this but both parts are pretty technical and couldn't make it work combining them. I preferred to try and keep as accurately as possible to the parts that were played individually by Jim and Maury. I believe LickNRiff has a tutorial for this song which combines both parts however.
