I tried for 3 days to trap my indoor-only cat that escaped. He was scared and behaving as a feral cat. After watching this one video and following your recommendations, I trapped him after only about 15 minutes. I am still in shock! THANK YOU so much for the knowledge you shared. You certainly helped return my baby back home. 😻

I set a trap for my indoor only cat that escaped, who would run as soon as I approach. I placed the trap at the front door when he escaped with just kibble. But no bite. He never ate sardine or real tuna, so I wonder if that's a good idea. I placed a bit of tuna yesterday, and still no bite.

@@achosenone44 I hope you are providing food and water for him. I finally got mine back after 22 days. I got surveillance cameras, which made all the difference since he would only come out at night from my neighbor's backyard into mine for a little food. I watched him go into the trap, ate, and came back out without stepping on the trigger plate. But he ended up walking into the enclosed porch, which I had a string tied to the sliding door. I pulled the string and got him.

You did a beautiful job on this! Thank you so much. I have 5 feral I am going to be trapping and I am trying to learn as much as I can to avoid making too many "false moves" and prolonging the ordeal. I have puchased 5 Tomahawk 605NC traps and 4 dividers, as you are taught to use two in the traps angled toward the cat so you can add food and water. I have prepared by taking a Trapping Certification course given by Neighborhood Cats. Additionally. I wanted a really good video showing how to use the traps safely and you have provided that. Much appreciated..

Yeah, I made the mistake of putting the food in a bowl on the trigger plate. And sat in amazement as the cat came down and ate everything out of the bowl from inside the cage. The tigger plate was never triggered. I will especially pay attention to putting the food on the trigger pad and place the plate under the cage.

The failure in most of the cat trap design is the trap door itself. A small rubber bumper needs to be added to the ends of the cage frame where the door hits to prevent complete closure of the door so to have a gap when tripped and closed. In other words, prevent metal slamming against metal. The a one way ratchet hook could be added to the side so that nobody could open it. You would have a thumb release which would have to be depressed first before opening the door. I'm talking about such traps as "Havahart" such trap types and all those that are similar.

Personally I have never needed to put food UNDER the trap and to smear it also on the trip plate....I've only used a small paper plate and placed it on the trip plate and voila it works. I also dribble a little outside the whole trap leading to the inside till the cat can see the plate of food and then they'll walk and spring the trap.

My own cat is running wild at the moment, possibly with a recently rehomed feral cat, so I'm going to hire one or two of these and see if I can trap either or both of the cats. They've both come to my house looking for food and I think I know which routes they take around their territory, so this is very useful information.

Very unsafe because the cat can squeeze through the corner of the door and possibly get stuck and harmed! I'm going to put 2 clasp hooks instead. One on each corner!

Question: how do I catch 5 Cats in one night with 5 different live traps set ? I only have one night to catch all of them, since the rescue people have one appointment only for the Vet clinic to neuter and give them shots. I am paying for it all at a rescue discount. Then Cats will be taken to a farm to heal from surgeries and to stay on that farm. Won't the other Cats be too scared to get trapped when they see one of them get trapped ? It is a litter of kittens I am trapping, they are about 12 weeks old and their Mother.

Just had a feral cat send our pet cat (my wife's actually--I've never condoned the keeping of cats) to the vet with grievous wounds. Very expensive. The feral actually took over our cat's place in the shed. Our spayed cat stays inside healing now, and I've closed off his place in the shed. The feral toms will attempt to kill and displace other male cats, especially killing male kittens and leaving the females to live to be mates. Meanwhile, the feral is out there killing not just other pets but endangered birds, and small wild mammals. I know where he's gone and have that landowner's permission to trap it. So thanks for the tutorial.

@@joshquintero9062 I have several traps but they are Havahart brand. I’ve had to rehome several squirrels. They were eating my patio furniture. Since these feral cats have shown up, no more squirrels. But now I have a cat problem. Trapping later today. The clinic opens tomorrow at 9am so I don’t want to start trapping too early today.

You should stay by the trap and keep and eye. The idea is that you spend some feeding on a consistent time so it is expecting the food. Then put the trap there and wait for it to come at dinner time.

Great. Some excellent tips, especially do not feed for 36 hours. And where to place the food. I don't think the cat I'm trying to trap is feral. I think it's lost. My niece's friends are missing a cat that fits this tabby's description. I'm hoping that it's that cat. Either way I've been feeding this cat for a month and it's winter in Alberta. I want to get it to a shelter.

Mucha gente no sabe pero los gatos son un grave problema para nuestros ecosistemas
ya que son depredadores de otros animales que son necesarios en su hábitat natural, como son: aves, pequeños mamíferos, reptiles e insectos.
Debemos hacer conciencia y no salvar a gatos callejeros.
Many people do not know but cats are a serious problem for our ecosystems since they are predators of other animals that are necessary in their natural habitat, such as: birds, small mammals, reptiles and insects. We must raise awareness and not save stray cats. Something very important is to know that cats in most countries are considered an invasive species; In other words, they are not native to those places, but rather that they have been introduced by man. Remember that the balance in nature has taken millions of years to create.

some of the comments made here are disgusting, to say the least! shame on you! I hope you never ever get close to any animal, I fear what you'd do! I volunteer in a shelter, a low-kill one, saving over 80% of the stray cats we come across, and are very proud of this! I will be setting a humane trap up tomorrow, to reunite a lady and her beloved kitty, who didn't want to m ove house when she did!

A feral cat is a wild cat. It is one step beyond a stray. Think wild animal not a lost pet. Usually they are born in the wild but stray can become feral.

Setting a trap this way is ok .... but....when I trap I just use something tasty, usually reg. cat food and maybe some tuna but I think she kinda way over does it. I just put a little food on top of the trap and dripple a little to lure the cat inside and have never had any trouble getting any cat I was after.

Chattin' to the next door neighbour the other day - I asked him if it was ok for me to jump the fence and take a dump on his back lawn. He sort of looked at me for a second or two and said if he saw me doin' that he'd have to get his gun out. I said great idea, next time I see your Siamese doin' that very same thing, I'll do the same and leave what's left of him on your front door mat. Haven't seen that Siamese in my back yard since, well...my garbage can *was* closer than his front door mat.
