The failure in most of the cat trap design is the trap door itself. A small rubber bumper needs to be added to the ends of the cage frame where the door hits to prevent complete closure of the door so to have a gap when tripped and closed. In other words, prevent metal slamming against metal. The a one way ratchet hook could be added to the side so that nobody could open it. You would have a thumb release which would have to be depressed first before opening the door. I'm talking about such traps as "Havahart" such trap types and all those that are similar.

The trap in this video is the type of trap design failure I'm talking about. Sadly, and furthermore, there is more of a gap between the edges of the cage and the door where cats typically push their paws through, than where the door slams shut at the bottom, which is full metal contact.

Its call TNR trap neuter release. the cats will be going to the ASPCA or other neuter program so they can stop having kittens . they will do a surgery to neuter and will cut slightly one of the point ears done also by a doctor to visualize the cat is already neuter , put rabies shot then return to the TNR person. the TNR person will keep the cat for 3-4 days inside the trap with food and water in a warm _safe place while the surgery spot gets dry then the cats will be release in the same spot where it was taken. this is how we make colonies and they wont have kittens and saving them one at a time. god bless

What if they're aggressive cats that attack children in the neighborhood?

@@akabga A cat spay/neuter become more easy, less aggressive and docile . Cats will attack only if attacked first or has rabbis. Which is why TNR is good. Never in 35 yrs doing this I have seen a cat walking toward_attacking a children or anyone anywhere. Never been attacked neither. Pp need to have and show respect to animals.

@@bridesnyc I don’t have much experience with cats other than keeping a few as pets, but there were a lot of stray cats in my stepdad’s mom’s neighborhood, and those cats were not nice. They would attack. I remember being scared to walk to my grandmother’s door from the car or to go outside to play. They would jump out of the bushes to hiss and scratch and even bite, even though I was minding my own business. Once, my brother got really messed up and bloody, too, after a really bad cat attack. I have no idea what was wrong with the stray cats in that neighborhood. If they had rabies, we were lucky to not have gotten rabies from them.

I’ve TNRed cats for over a decade & have never once seen a cat attack a person. Also, thanks to vaccinations, rabies is extremely rare, even in wild unvaccinated animals. You’re way more likely to get struck by lightning or win the lottery. These are fears based on old wives tales. I highly suspect if a cat attacks someone, they weren’t “minding their own business”, but threatening or provoking a cat in some way. I have simply grabbed and scruffed extremely wild cats to trap, and this is the only way I’ve ever been even scratched. I’ve only been bitten by pet cats when trying to give medicine or groom. I’ve dealt with a female feral (stray since a kitten) that was so tolerant that I could even bathe (for skin problems). A cat will warn you if it is upset and scared - just don’t approach it in that case - give it space. It might have kittens or be injured or something. And, most feral cats do not want to be touched at all.

It would be nice to know how to get food in the back of the trap. Unless you have 10' long arms, its impossible. Horrible video. Horribly designed product

My husband is able to reach in and place the food, but I would use my extender-grabber (it cost me less than 2 dollars in my area in Spain) @dmk7799ify in case this idea helps
