      I avoided getting one because of the seven segment 1980's display BUT I manged to snag one with the Oled mod ready fitted at a very reasonable price(£750) last month and couldn't be happier. I now know I was right to wait till now, no way could I have handled the old display. If they ever make a MK2 I suggest pressure sensitive pads a mobile phone sized touch screen and an M.2 nvme slot for internal storage and maybe even a separate version with MPC Live 2 type speakers, all while retaining close to its present size, Infact forget the touch screen and just provide a bluetooth link so we can use an app on our smart phone and save some space, add wi-fi so we could download samples straight to the M.2 drive and we would be good for the next 10 years. SORRY! got a bit carried away there 🤣Because there is not much wrong with the Deluge just as it is!❤❤😃😃😎

    A friend of mine has a pre production prototype Deluge and even that was enough to convince me I needed to get one. I got mine in March. I take it to work and use it on my breaks. I've sampled office sounds and turned them into beats or synth oscillators.
    I downloaded a free multi sample orchestral instrument pack recently and have been working on strings and brass arrangements. The possibilities are endless and vast.
    I find my self brewing up something cool in just a few minutes. I'm at around 60 song ideas thus far... Way more productive than my usual one song a year.

      In the 90s had a MC-303 and QY10 & 20, early 2000s RM1X.
      They were fun to learn but almost always lacking something regarding sound, thought the RM1X sounded the best imho.
      This Deluge is on a different level (just bought a MC-101).
      If you don't want to spend a ton of money, the Deluge might be (just like the MPC LIVE) the one and only box that can pull it of.
      The new MC-101 is a fun 3000 Roland classic sound Groovebox, the Deluge is for when you want new sounds and more realtime control.
      At $899 I think it is a bargain. Still a lot of money for a student (been there).

    At a time where i could have bought a circuit or an octatrack/digitakt this is what i bought. I don’t regret it one bit : it makes sketching out ideas soooo much easier. Very probably the single best piece of gear i ever bought, daw included.
    This box is my circuit/digitakt killer!
    The two cons I have however is that synth presets don’t sound that good to me for the most part. And pads are not velocity sensitive. But you can get it to purr if you know what your’re doing.
    Also, if you own this little beauty be sure to watch loopop’s and mike cavagnaro’s videos on the deluge as they are full of tips & tricks !

    • @WanderingManProd
      @WanderingManProd 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alleyway Jack fair enough ! I try not too have too much gear so I can keep my setup simple. Another aspect is I use the thing almost daily for multiple things, from multiple places. Not sure I would have had the same mileage with circuit + digitakt...

    Great job on the video. I appreciate you sharing your initial experience. I owned the Deluge for a year. I feel the device strengths are using it as a sequencer thru midi and cv. I did not enjoy trying to expand tracks beyond the 16 grid for longer pieces of a song. Never quite got used to modifying parameters on the grid either. Last, the synth and drum kits were not good enough for a live performance. I sold my Deluge and got a used Polyseq for sequencing my other gear and eurorack.

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Brian for sharing. I definitely don’t think it is the best tool for everyone. These grooveboxes are instruments and for some it just doesn’t click. I have actually had many who said that the grid layout got confusing as soon as you start working with larger projects. I can totally see this being an issue for some. The strength of the Circuit for example is that you almost always work in the same resolution. Deluge definitely requires you to be more mindful of ”where you are”

    • @briannhinton
      @briannhinton 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are making long clips, and getting confused consider making smaller clips, and use arranger. Zoom out, and longer periods of time are much more manageable. Then in arranger you can modify or even completely override tracks / clips at key points to breakup your song composition more.

    Portable, battery operated, massive capabilities. I love my Digitakt, I love my Digitakt, Noooo!!! 🤣 And I thought I had struggles w/ no time stretch and other features on the Octatrack. AND this is Cheaper! My hat is off to Synthstrom!! But I do like the workflow, and overall computer progamie style of my Digitakt. So I can finally say I am happy with what I have. no gas surprisingly. Probably b/c I’ve put a lot into melding with the takt man. 😊 But definitely a killer device.

      A little late to this comment, but yeah...thats pretty much what Ive been using my Deluge for. Ambient, experimental, beatless soundscapes, etc. Between the sampling, the extensive looper, and the synth engine and sequencer tricks like probability, I think it actually really excels at this kind of stuff too - not just the beats.

  • @ryanjones5803
    @ryanjones5803 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Quick question - are these demos using the internal synth engines? Im only a few minutes in and already my ears are saying "wow" compared to other videos I've listened to where the VA engine sounded a little bit on the lame side. These sounds sound far more usable. Not top quality or anything but a lot better than I had heard previously on older firmware demos.
    I really don't need GAS for this though... Knew I shouldn't have watched!

Would also love to hear your thoughts on how it compares to your other sequencers when used for composing songs. It seems like it could be a good way to get out of pattern-based composition and work in more of a free-form timeline style.

  • @EarlyMist
    @EarlyMist 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    If it had multi audio outs, even via a dongle like the old Lynx PCI audio cards...man that would be sweet. My old SU700 and A3000 SCSI expansion boards changed the game...separate outs for say drums, bass, synth and pads/FX. I was hoping it could be done by USB but I'm not sure USB supports audio in the Deluge...only data.

      The entire instrument is the display.

    • @lasdeception7106
      @lasdeception7106 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, as DetroitMicroSound says - the pads turn into a full screen - it's actually really good for editing audio, a massive amount of visual feedback for editing - so you're not just dealing with the old-skool digital display, which I rather like and is only really there for file and parameter diving, although much of that is accessible from the pads anyway - a cleaver design!. I've had mine for about a year or so... only negative is the sound of the synth engine, but there are some new / useful sound packs available now. If they can warm the synth engine up a touch, add some dynamic processing and introduce a granular processor - then it will rock. I use mine for live gigs with a couple of modular rigs, but have composed some useful tracks in it also.

    • @briannhinton
      @briannhinton 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had the 707, and replaced it with the Deluge. The 707 felt more like a mixer with sequencer, sound design, etc. tacked on. The Deluge feels like a sequencer, sound design, arranger, sampler, etc. They all feel equal due to the nature of the grid. No small screen (which was not fun to work with). The 707 definitely has more functionality. The filters and fx are amazing, and as a mixer is better. The pads need breaking in in it, but once they are the velocity is nice to have too. I wish the Deluge added compression, and more mixer capabilities. If you want a more tactile experience with most things visible upfront then, in my opinion, the Deluge is the better option.

    Hey Bo,
    I love my deluge from most a year now with no issues. Ever since I connected the Deluge to my arturia Audiofuse studio in her face and my Motu Midi express XT interface it only plays in midi mode and will not play synthesizer or any of the kits. I just recently started building my home studio set up and I’m still trying to figure out all of the connections and the settings. My studio equipment consist of the following.
    Apple MacBook Pro 2014
    Arturia Audiofuse Studio Interface
    Synthstrom Audible Deluge
    Arturia drumbrute
    Yamaha Montage 8
    Korg Wavestate synthesizer
    Motu Midi express XT interface
    JBL 308 Powered studio monitors
    JBL LSR 310 S powered subwoofer
    I would greatly appreciate if somebody could help me set up this equipment The way they would if it was theirs. Also if anybody has any TH-cam videos that could walk me through connecting everything at a beginner level. I also just downloaded logic Pro X for my DAW. I just need the best way to hook everything up and get the most out of all the set up.
    Thank you for any help that you can give me,
    Thomas Sedgwick

    How are the pads for playing drums? I love my digitakt but playing the buttons like pads kinda sucks. I bought the Mpc live and sold it within a week. It was uninspiring. I’ve been on the fence about this quite a bit. I do chillhop and I start most tracks with a guitar so I have to have on board sampling. The biggest problem I have with the digitakt is no battery power and the buttons instead of pads.

      The screen on the Deluge is horrible, but from owning a 707 the screen is just as bad on it, based on the things you are doing. Managing, and arranging clips on a sliver of a screen is not fun. It’s one reason I switched. I went a 101 with the Deluge. That way you have access to that massive sound library, and other tools on the 101. Plus you can be nice and portable!
