  • This is on a ford 9 inch , but can be appled to many different rear ends. Jeeps have the same procedures as well. I cover how to remove a pressed in axle bearing, how to remove a bearing race from an axle tube. how to use a slap slide hammer. how to press in bearings on an axle. CE-8015
Also it is a good idea to put rtv silicone on the outside of the race before you put it in the axle tube!

Thank you for this ,I just took apart the 9 in. I am putting in my 1985 c10. I have never seen this type of 9in. The ones I am used to have a sealed brn and a seal by itself about 1 in to the inside. This is going to help a lot.

Hey Klowning. Great video for sure. I have a question. I am using ls1 rear backing plates on a ford 9" with GM housing ends. My axles has set20 bearing as well, so you know the outer seal sticks out (like yours). My question is, what is the torque spec for the retainer plates? I am using the ls1 rear backing plate as a retainer. When I do a good snug down on the retainer bolts (ls1 backing plate), the axles doesn't want to spin easily. When I tightening the bolt down good, the axles doesn't spin at all. I am having trouble finding the balance of tightening the retainer plate bolts to secure the axles and to also have the axle spin without any problems to the bearings. Please help.

The local shop wants $50 an axle to press on new bearings! For $100 I can get a press from Hf. I see you have the 20 ton but I think a 12 ton should work. Thoughts? And I can use it for future projects.

I have a curry housing with a 31 spline set up all brand new and I was told to install it with a gallon of gear oil. Sitting on jackstands a little bit of gear oil drips out of the seals. Why is that if everything is new thanks for your help

Forgive me for asking. I have a 1971 F100 Ranger RWD. I was able to determine that it is a 9" rear axle. Anyway I showed the previous owner of the truck this video because he also had to replace the seal on the other side but he said it was nothing like what is shown in the video so I am totally confused now and can't find any other YT video's or information like this one. I really want to order the Timken set 20 U399A90012 before I take it apart since it is my daily driver and don't wish to buy parts from a local parts store, I really hate to ask, this kit should work right? thank you for response in advance.

My old and new collars measure the same.I put the end of the new shaft next to the collar of the old shaft. The new axle should go in about an 1/8 inch deeper. On the old shaft it looks like the penny depth that you showed. I don't know how many miles those bearings have on them, but they can slide back and forth between the shoulder and the collar.Do you understand what all I am saying here?

The penny width is a 1/4 inch.I can't press on any more. Things would crush. I think you may be thinking I am not on far enough. I actually went on too far.
