Hi! I am living and working in Greenland. Working in a telecommunication company, where I take care of the buildings and for managing construction of new one.
Very nice video Alex, good to hear that there are certain jobs that are in demand, like carpenters. Perhaps I should get myself a degree if i really want to move to Greenland 🤔 Keep up the nice videos! :D
I assume you mean Pisiffik?😅 I shop there sometimes, but mostly shop at Brugseni, which is the other major chain of supermarkets in Greenland. Pisiffik is usually a little more expensive than Brugseni, but oftentimes has more options and exclusive products. Dom P champagnes etc..
So how do you make a living in Greenland? I saw the other video about your house and it looks pretty nice but I can't really see what are some of the major jobs out in Greenland besides fishing and maybe mining outside of tourism.
In Nuuk we have all the administration jobs, for a country to function. I work as a coordinator for our national telecom, renovating buildings and construction of new ones. Healthcare is also big
@@ScubaSteveM45 The majority of available jobs here are government jobs, but private jobs are available. I used to work at WSP before, which is a private company.

You can use greenlandic, danish, and english. For greenlandic dialects, its the western greenlandic here in Nuuk, intertwined with quite a lot of danish words😅
Greenlandic (the West dialect) is the only official language here, so please learn it if you decide to move here. Usually people in Nuuk also speak Danish or English so if you don't speak Greenlandic, then you can get around with one of those two just fine

Interested to know where you were born? I am from New Zealand at the bottom of the world and we also have 40 hour working weeks and free health care. Sport and the outdoors, tramping , beaches is our passion in our time off.
In my country we have a similar phenomenon in Alaska where it is also cold and remote and many jobs pay very well, but it is it similar in Greenland where you are paid well but the cost of living turns it into a less spectacular income as a consequence of having many vital goods shipped in from afar? I am curious
The pay is on average not as good as in ex. Denmark, but certain circumstances, such as short distances, make owning a car less necessary and thereby make it cheaper. But buying goods etc is on average 30% more expensive than Denmark, so your phenomenom is also true here😊
@@ScubaSteveM45 Real estate in Nuuk is getting more and more expensive and newer homes are closing in on suburban Copenhagen prices, which is insane... But I am happy with my deal, I bought in 2019 and my house has probably increased $50-60.000USD

3:10 is that a Cemetery in the foreground?
Yes it is. No ghosts haunting my house yet though...
Monopolies are good?
I'd like to visit Greenland when I sail to Europe next year however you dont allow pets and I cant find any info on if I can stop while my pets stay on board our sailboat
Yes, above the arctic circle other dogs than greenlandic sleddogs are not allowed.
Maybe talk to the police in Greenland and ask what you can do.😊
According to you🤔,which provience of Greenland have much job opportunities and cheap ??
I would say for an english speaker and most job opportunities, definitely the capital Nuuk. But not as cheap as any other place in Greenæand though...😅
Hey mate, I live in Sydney and we have tons of comfort here. If you go upto Mount kuring-gai or Hawksberry River or down to the Cronulla Shire you'd understand what I mean
Awesome!
I also really loved when I lived in Sydney, beautiful city and way of life!
@@AlexAmasaOlsen well i'm moving to Brisbane. If you end up going down here visit Fortitude Valley. I'ts sublime
Can I get a scholarship to live in greenland as a student?
Greenland will be the next tropical paradise in 20 years . I want to invest in the hotel and hospitality industries as soon as I can . Can you help me ?
I bet the stars are nice to photo as they move across the sky.
Yes, as well as the northern lights😊
hello... Alex how are you ? what are you doing in greenland.
Hi!
I am living and working in Greenland. Working in a telecommunication company, where I take care of the buildings and for managing construction of new one.
Donald from Tucson Arizona.
Greenland sound like a great place to visit.
Hi Donald!
Greenland can be great and extreme at the same time, so definitely be prepared for anything.😄
@@AlexAmasaOlsen thanks Alex for your reply!
What about the nightlife?
Very nice video Alex, good to hear that there are certain jobs that are in demand, like carpenters. Perhaps I should get myself a degree if i really want to move to Greenland 🤔 Keep up the nice videos! :D
A degree dedinitely helps..
Hei very informative videos. Thank you.
Have you shopped at Fissizzik store? If so are they expensive?
I assume you mean Pisiffik?😅
I shop there sometimes, but mostly shop at Brugseni, which is the other major chain of supermarkets in Greenland. Pisiffik is usually a little more expensive than Brugseni, but oftentimes has more options and exclusive products. Dom P champagnes etc..
but like... how is the internet connection?
i'm greenlandic and it's pretty good i guess
So how do you make a living in Greenland? I saw the other video about your house and it looks pretty nice but I can't really see what are some of the major jobs out in Greenland besides fishing and maybe mining outside of tourism.
In Nuuk we have all the administration jobs, for a country to function.
I work as a coordinator for our national telecom, renovating buildings and construction of new ones.
Healthcare is also big
@@AlexAmasaOlsen would you say the private sector is viable or is gov't service the only realistic sector to work for in Greenland
@@ScubaSteveM45 The majority of available jobs here are government jobs, but private jobs are available.
I used to work at WSP before, which is a private company.
@@AlexAmasaOlsen what's the outlook on Greenlandic manufacturing? I happen to be a machinist by trade so I'd probably stay in that type of work wherever on Earth I went
@@ScubaSteveM45 The main export here is shrimp/fish. On top of my head not a lot of manufacturing, besides construction
Yup! Not many vids about Greenland. Your vids are informative.
Thanks Siegfred😎
What languages could you use to get around in nuuk? As i know greenland has many dialects.
Loving your videos! and I appreciate your open mindedness regarding nuclear energy. Would love to learn more about the hydro power in Greenland
Thanks!
Yes now with Europe in an energy crisis, shurting down nuclear powerplants seems like a stupid move, when we are so heavily reliant on fossilfuels still...
Maybe I should do a video about energy in Greenland🤔😊
@@AlexAmasaOlsen I would be quite interersted in an "Energy in Greenland" Solar, Geo-Thermal, Wind and Hydro of course. Cheers! keep up the great work
@@erikhaugaard9939 Sure thing!
But buying goods etc is on average 30% more expensive than Denmark, so your phenomenom is also true here😊
@@AlexAmasaOlsen how was the real estate prices vs. Denmark? Would you say you got a better deal vs. a Danish house or about the same
@@ScubaSteveM45 Real estate in Nuuk is getting more and more expensive and newer homes are closing in on suburban Copenhagen prices, which is insane...
But I am happy with my deal, I bought in 2019 and my house has probably increased $50-60.000USD
@@AlexAmasaOlsen small world I bought my house here in the USA in 2018 and it has gone up by an identical value. I will never sell it since while home values have gone up somewhat home prices have gone up exponentially in my country
@@ScubaSteveM45 Nice, yes it is nice to see all that equity stacking up😎
Great info, Thank you!... I subscribed 👍🏻
How would you rate the Education System in Nuuk?
Thanks Mike😁
Schooling is alright I guess, with an option to put your kid in a private school as well. It all depends on which teachers you get. I came through school and high school with pretty goid teachers and now have a university degree
Get better at speaking danish, only then you can get far in Education System
one day i need to visit Greenland I've always liked the arctic
That townhouse is pretty big and decent, and the price is not orbital.
can you please help me get there
But how did you first discover Greenland? I thought I heard maybe you were raised there, but not sure. Great videos! I’ve always been so curious about Greenland. Thank you!!
Yes, I was 6 years old when I first came here, then a bit back and forth between Greenland and Denmark. But most of my life has been in Greenland
@@AlexAmasaOlsen that is so cool! Thank you for sharing !
Can you order from Amazon?
@@driskey82 Yes you can, also amazon.com delivers here.
Some brands do have limitations though

Greenland if you really love snow!!
Hahah, that too!
Am an ACCA qualified..can i find job over there... ( chartered Accountant)
Should be possible, I know we have EY here, as well as Deloitte and others

Do people have dogs there? And what are the laws on owning dogs?
Have you ever find any brasilian there?
Yes, my girlfriend knows one here in Nuuk.
@@AlexAmasaOlsen Nice, you got another subscribe

If Greenland have geothermal I would love to grow commercial hydroponic agricultural crops there for the people of Greenland.
I spent a lot of time in Scandinavia, lived in Sweden for a year, and Germany for 4 yrs. I think I could handle Greenland. I'd be coming from California. Tak.
Greenland is very different from those places
Do you speak Greenlandic?
I was wondering that too. Maybe he does idk
I like your ideas👍
Thanks!
im living in sisimiut :)
Nice!

This im going back to Nuuk/Assiat
Great description about living in Greenland. I think that it should be truly fantastic to live there, but I am also aware that we must face the problem of global warming in order to preserve these lands and their natural environments. Thank you for this nice video
Yes, lets preserve the ice we have up here please😊
I like the idea to live in a calm environment, but the weak infrastructure of such a remote place scares me. I prefer living at the calm edge of a big city, so I will have nature outside the city and a good infrastructure.
Yes, we live very isolated and it can have its challenges. Hopefully the new international airports will do some good for Nuuk and Ilulissat😀
@@AlexAmasaOlsen How long does it take to get something you ordered on amazon?
@@BlackStarASMR Hmm, I would say roughly two weeks. Since Amazon Prime is not available
@@AlexAmasaOlsen I guess Greenland might be something for vacation only for me. Are the hotels expensive there? I don't have much money, indeed I struggle very much, I have debt of 76000 EUR and I have to pay high interest rates, I struggled with paying my rent this month for the first time in 10 years. Wish I would pay only lower interest rates of 2 % p. a. or so. Right now I pay 7 to 11 % p. a.. But maybe Greenland vacation somewhere in the future.
@@BlackStarASMR I hope you get rid of that high interest debt soon my friend! Because vacationing in Greenland is definitely not cheap.. A hotelroom in Ilulissat is roughly $200 pr. night and in Nuuk you could get a budget option for $140 pr night. Airbnb rooms are a cheaper alternative.
Hi Alex, if we working, can bring our parents to stay with us, how about the visa process?
You can check a video I made about becoming a citizen in Greenland. There are some links to the immigration website, which is pretty good.😊
40 hours is not a "fairly short" workweek bro :)
Personally I don’t like hot weather. For me any thing above 72 F is too hot.

Yes, this is in Nuuk😀
