    Great video and well done. You need to fit the metal part of the chain brake into the brake handle when installing the cover. These are lovely old saws.

    I was just given a 009 saw that supposedly didn't run. Chain was too tight, air filter dirty, vent line broken and all around DIRTY! But it did fire up and cut pretty good. Only problem it there was allot of oil that got on the clutch. Can't get it off, but using brake and carb cleaner, I'm trying to get the gunk out and hope the slipping stops. From what I read, this model came out in 1993? Would you say that is correct? Even though your vid says 1980's.

    WOW! Love the new vlog style! Beautiful restoration! You look like you have done this multiple times before! For the Stihl on the cover I just use a permanent marker 🤪! Those old saws across the pond go for good money! 🔧🇺🇸🤙🏻🦅

      Thank you as for the sthil lettering I did use a permanent marker

    • @timbrown2637
      @timbrown2637 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@roystheboy I use sharpies or bigger permanent markers all the time for lettering. One other thing is my son has a vinyl cutting plotter and I paint the lettering part of the bar satin black, he prints me the stihl letters, stick them on the black and paint the rest of the bar stihl gray, peel the vinyl off and spray the whole bar satin clear duplicolor wheel coating. I also use that clear on any parts i paint because it's fuel resistant

    Looks like you left the kickback protection lever out of the 'handle'. Any reason, or is it just a PITA to use? I'm looking for a clutch case and I found one with this missing. Is it worth looking for another one, or do you think it's something everyone removes because it's not a good implementation.

    Working on getting one of these saws running, at 10:30 you put on the gas tent vent line. I can not figure out where the other end of line goes? I've seen a few people say it's behind the clutch cover but don't see the hole. Is it just a dead end/do you put the vent cap on it at some point? Don't see anything else in the video just you stick it in that hole and that's all. Thank you for any help

    I'm guessing the crankcase seals are fine, good compression, good rings! All that work and not checking those seems odd. Idles good but sounds like it still needs some work! But it looks good!

  • @Billy-burner

    I think it looked better in it's original state. Just a clean up would of sufficed. Also you did not attach the chain break correctly to the handle. Your saw needs further tuning because it was not running right.

  • @daves6590

    I just picked one up for free any way to tell if it would be OK to restore?

    • @grantmcinnes1176
      @grantmcinnes1176 ปีที่แล้ว

      Take the bar and chain off. Take the spark plug out. Spray a *tiny* bit of penetrating oil in the cylinder, aiming to coat the cylinder walls. Slowly pull the cord a few times, aiming to move the oil around the cylinder. This lubricates the cylinder to help prevent damage. Clean and set the gap on the spark plug. Ground it against the body of the motor, pull the cord quickly and check for spark. If you have fire, re-install it. Empty any old gas/oil mix and bar oil. Refill with fresh. Remove carb cover, spray a *tiny* bit of starter fluid in the carb. *Only the once* and a *tiny* bit. People will disagree about that, but I find an engine that hasn't run for a while needs an extra kick to get it going the first time. Replace carb cover. Probably no need to screw it on for now, you might remove it again soon. Go to town on that starter cord. Like 10 good pulls with the choke on. Maybe another 10 with it off. If it doesn't start, remove plug and clear flooding. Replace plug and try again. All of this sounds like a lot, but it probably takes 30 mins - 1 hour, and will resurrect a good number of saws. And if it doesn't get it going it will give you an idea of where the issue is: fuel or air or spark. And possibly how much effort it takes to fix. Everything can be restored though. Just a matter of how much time and money you want to put in :)

    never open full throttle on chainsaw when you don't have the chain and bar on also after the reassembly when you tried to start it you flooded it that's why it didn't start
