Well at least its not connected to moving too far away from the scene (NPCinteraction trigger function relies on distance to party) as i just also got the correct ending when i moved away for 3 turns.
Start with mage and keep it, T&S skill of 4-5 was ok for the bombs here. Skip the 3 slimes by pulling them into the short passage, takes ~ 2 minutes, the one in front must not be too big else you cant pass it. Use stink bombs from king crab and Burz for spider spawn and pipe bandits. May also go for the cherry bomb near Aletheides, and the magic nectar while youre there. Gold: takes less than 5 minutes for 2 books, 4 coffins, safe and waterfall. Let at least sparkle die at the OC and use mindread later with urq, add less than 5 min to give balbrak the arm if you managed to skip all encounters. p.s. rapax queen chest contains items for 90k to > 300k gold and takes < 2 min
I am all in if you try it first and get to UBC with a mage :) But I am not really losing anything by character switching. It doesnt take that long. I could skip the obstacle course this way though!
You might be right. But the monastery on solo expert is a lot of RNG. No matter what class you are, every fight is a roulette, so it needs much more than just one run to see what is really good. I would say try going on and see if you can also beat the bandits at the pipes. I guess that if your initiative is so high that you can double breath them as well, then you should have no problem, but would be good to know. In this run, I had to face a ton of enemies in the lower monastery. Thats far from ideal and probably the reason why you were so much faster. But the idea of using a class with higher initiative to save at least one cherry bomb is not bad. It doesnt even have to be a monk, as stealth unless powerleveled is useless, and dual class just wont cut the experience requirement for portal, so you do need to switch the character to a mage at some point. But is the double breath on the spiders consistent enough, or were you just lucky? When I give even one of them a round to shoot, I get almost always paralyzed.
LM hallways have many of those empty doorframes or edges that allow to hide and wait for approaching enemies to pass them with combat run in the 1st surprise round, you will save most if not all time spent for that later as you dont need to fight for xp at all. I throw the cherry bomb from far away at the pipe bandits while in full cover, if done well they wont even see me all in the 2nd turn when the stink bomb goes off. Note that you can hold right mouse and push/pull to move the target cursor vertically and that you may place it on non walkable physial walls.
A bishop is probably as good as a mage. You get more spells choices, but at the same time you need to grind more for skills (especially 60 in a school for portal can take a while, and more spell choices also come with the need to increase more spell schools). And while dracon is great at the start for the breath, a faerie is better later on in the speerun for the faster regen.
What capture software do you use btw? I tried to LP this with FRAPS a long time ago, but technology has presumably progressed past "20 gigs uncompressed for 5 minutes of video"
I use open broadcaster software (OBS). It is not perfect, but it works (for Wizardry 8 I am using a partial monitor capture while playing in a window). The output video format is ".flv" and just for comparison this 3h30m video file has the size of 1,68 GB.
At the beginning, how were you able to increase your character's stamina? What keyboard (and/or mouse) input were you using to make this occur? Thanks.

Same as in any other run: start combat, end combat. It just goes really fast with only one character in the party.
