    In the meanwhile, Microsoft has released Windows 11 23H2. You can find an updated video about doing a fresh installation of 23H2 on unsupported hardware over here: th-cam.com/video/7uY3cVxrLP8/w-d-xo.html
    For other scenarios, you can also check the following:
    - Upgrade to Windows 11 23H2 from Windows 11 22H2 or 21H2 on unsupported hardware: th-cam.com/video/crAQMMLanE4/w-d-xo.html
    - Upgrade to Windows 11 23H2 from Windows 10 on unsupported hardware: th-cam.com/video/sjezpIdnbbk/w-d-xo.html

    This is a proper SBS demonstration video by far over many others who think they are on top of everyone else by abruptly presenting a waste of time video in which no one can understand what they are talking about! This is the best educational video for freshly installed and dual boot for everyone and most importantly it works! P.s. could do with a tutorial video to remove one of the systems and reverse back to a single boot system. Thank you.

    Well I was building a PC at home and my wife sent me on an errand then tidied my desk. When I returned I was missing the TPM module and all of the ram, and my SSD. Fast forward a month and I have new ram, and still haven't found the TPM module or ssd. optanes were already installed. Luckily your instructions worked. I can get another TPM module, but it took 5 weeks to get one last time.

    Not what I was looking for when searching TH-cam for 'dual boot issues', but an otherwise fascinating video on installing Windows 11 on unsupported hardware. Have you ever noticed delays during the bootup process when using dual boot? I just bought a brand new laptop and it took about 2-3 seconds to display the Windows login screen. I set up a dual boot system (once by cloning the Windows partition and the second time with a clean Windows 11 install) with two Windows 11 partitions (both on the same NVMe), and now it takes 15 seconds just for the dual boot menu to appear, then 2-3 seconds to get to the main Windows 11 partition (the original install) and 25 seconds to get to the secondary Windows 11 partition. I have a dual boot system set up on my 9 year old laptop (which was original W7 and then updated; not clean installs; to W8.1 and W10) which has a bog standard HDD, and because it is much slower booting up, I never noticed that this also suffers different time delays.

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Never really noticed something like that but didn't pay close attention to it neither to be honest. I would typically only have dual boot for different OS versions or like Linux/Windows. I would then probably point at a difference there rather than having something to do with dual boot itself. With two the same OS versions and such a difference, that's strange indeed.

I follow your video but when I came to start the install after the boot all is well until it asks where the installation files are and then gives an error message advising it can't find a USB stick with the required files even when I direct it to the stick. Any thoughts? Would it be more successful if I did a clean install of Win 10 and then tried to install Win 11 alongside it?

    Awesome. Only one thing (well 2 really, lol) Anyway, You mentioned "32 Bit" I have a "64 Bit" machine, thus I stopped what I was doing. A shame though, I wanted to do this as a trial of that system before deciding on doing the full Win 11 PRO. For the other question, Is then there a way to change the Win 11 Home version to Pro in that dual boot? Good work though man. Thanks

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This does work on 64bit. It's on 32 bit that it would not work :)
      To change from Home to Pro, it depends a bit. If your PC has a key saved in the BIOS, the setup will detect that and take the version for which the key matches. Look for ei.cfg for Windows 11 to override that behavior.

I followed and double checked your directions for my older HP desktop and it all works up to the point where the installer reboots the PC. When it does, I get an error :( "Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart. We'll restart for you). It also shows a "stop code" INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE. Although the PC restarts, it just goes into a loop and continues to hit the same error each time. I've let the PC restart several times and the install never progresses beyond this point. If my objective is to also keep all windows 10 installed software, can I:
    1. Mirror the Windows 10 boot drive to the new partition
    2. Install Windows 11 as an Upgrade on the new partition following your dual boot installation instruction
    Then I should be able to retain all links to previously installed software (even those in a different, untouched partitions/drives)
    If there's ever a future unanticipated issue with unsupported hardware running Win 11, I can then revert back to the old boot Win 10.
    Do you foresee any issues with this "enhanced" dual boot with Upgrade rather than fresh Win 11?
    Thanks in advance.

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  ปีที่แล้ว

      If I understood correct, you would like to keep a copy of your current Windows 10 install as it is now in case something goes wrong.
      Then indeed, clone your current Windows 10 install to a new partition or drive (something like gParted could be used for this).
      Next, you should not go through the fresh install/dual boot process, as you already will have two installations that can dual boot: two times Windows 10: original and clone.
      The next step should just be to upgrade one of these two installs to Windows 11 using the upgrade methode (as described here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=GI2B5H%202tYLs)
      The only downside is that the new applications you install and all new settings and data will not be synchronised to that 2nd installation. So in case you would decided to go back after 6 months, I don't really know how relevant that old installation would still be.

    Thanx for the video. I did the same thing. Did you get booted out of the Insider Program like I did and do you get feature updates or just updates to Win 11??

      I used release versions. I initially used the insider program builds but switched to release once it was officially out. So not sure if you get the same updates on insider builds.

    Hi jensd_be, which method you will suggest to me? I am running Windows 10 now, Should I upgrade to Windows 11 by following your previous video, or should I do fresh windows 11 install?

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For me, a fresh install always feels better as it doesn't have any "old" files anymore. But it's more work as you will first need to take a good backup, then re-install all your applications.

      If there is no key in the BIOS, the installer will ask you which version to install. It would not be activated unless you add a key for pro though.

      You mean if it's not booting from the USB drive? Usually F8 or F12 lets you enter the boot menu from which you can select to boot from the USB drive. If you don't find how exactly, the best is to Google for Boot X from USB, where X is the model of your PC or mainboard.

    I have the same computer as you, I want to do the same dual boot but! I'm get confused when you delete all those partitions, I want to keep my recovery from Windows 10, is this possible in case I don't want the windows 11 and keep my windows 10 as is it?

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want a dual boot, there is no need to delete partition. You need to go through the steps in Windows 10 to resize the Windows 10 partition, then create a new one for Windows 11.
      In the installer, just select he Windows 11 partition as destination and all other partitions remain.

    I see, that the Win10 and Win11 drives are both accessible in file manager. Wouldn't it be safer for the two systems to be hidden from each other?

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Windows itself will not really touch the other drive/partition and it could come in handy to move/copy/access files from the other drives in some cases. If desired to hide the drive from the other operating system, you could simply unassign the drive letter using Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc)

      Depends a bit on your PC. I've seen some which can boot of an SD card but mostly when there is a built-in card reader. You'll need to test it to find out.

    After dual booting windows 10 and windows 11 could i add windows 7 to make it a triple boot

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not 100% sure, there is a chance that the Windows 7 installation will overwrite the bootloader. In that case you can repair it by booting from the Windows 10/11 USB drive and Troubleshoot -> Startup Repair. The Windows 10 or 11 bootloader should then also be able to boot Windows 7 as well. Better to install from old to new so 7, 10, 11 :)

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dual boot without USB drive will be hard as launching the installer from within Windows is supposed to be an upgrade. You could create an ISO and boot from that but I guess if you don't have a USB drive, an empty DVD will be an issue as well :)

  • @MrTr3D

    I don't get it. One screen you had win10 135gb, but then the next screen when you fast forward, it had the same 135gb but it didn't say win10. It shows temp. You deleted that temp 135gb which was win10. After deleting win10 135gb, your drive went up to 235gb space. So how does it show win10 and win11 on the screen when you deleted the win10 135gb?

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The volumes Win10 and Win11 only matter when you want to do a dual boot install. For the fresh install part (where the Win10 volume is indeed called Temp), it doesn't matter at all as you just delete any partition that is already there. So two options:
      1) Dual boot: you split your current Win10 partition in a smaller Win10 + new Win11, using Disk management and select that new Win11 during the installation
      2) Fresh install: skip the splitting part, boot straight away from the USB drive and delete every partition which was there
      You don't need to do both, they are two separate things.

    • @MrTr3D
      @MrTr3D ปีที่แล้ว

      Huh? I know how to do a fresh install, but your video says "dual boot" and not fresh install. For fresh install, of course you deleted all partitions. If someone deletes all partitions and do what you showed them, then they could lose everything because you told them. If the title of the video says dual boot, then I expect to see a demo how to do a dual boot.
