This car has aged so well and looking at what is out there now ......makes you appreciate this beautiful design even more. The 928 had so many firsts in Porsche history.
"Porsche, there is no Substitute" quote Tom Cruise :) ... especially the late 70's early 80's 928 ! the ones with Leopard Fause pattern cloth seats were also EPIC
When the Porsche 928 hit the road there was nothing on the market like it. The curvaceous body design was unprecedented. All sports cars at the time had a wedge look.
Amazing! People are really starting to appreciate these classic Porsches. 911's have been going crazy for a few years, but now 928s, 944s, 924s and 914s are all being valued for the beautiful autos that they are!
@@marioiacoluccithe guy who bought it before he sold it, was my father. he was not in the stands at the time. The guy who bought it from the auction was a rich Australian golfer
Not surprised. Movie was an icon for us young boys in that era. Hookers and parties. Plus toss in the porsche 928. Just like Jake's red 944 In sixteen candles or jazzy Jeff and the fresh prince music video the 911 red wide body cabriolet. It's porshe! Not mention Tom.
First production car to hit 200mph, first Porsche v8, original cost was equivalent to $200k, last production Porsche to be hand built and the design still looks good after 40 years. @ 1.8 mil, Tom defiantly gave it a boost but worse cars with higher production numbers have sold for more.
Also the guy who originally tracked down that car didn't tell the owner at the time what car that was. Ripped the guy off and bought it for less then 5 grand.
As Electric cars are trumpeted in, the combustion collectors are making more noise! A fine example of what is coming! Buy them now while the getting is good!
I have 87 944s and 87 928 s4 45k miles mint both r holding for long and enjoying them fir years. They are only going up. Ubr correct after all electric they should go up much higher
My friend bought one of these used he thought he was Tom Cruise, he gave me a ride in it the ac didn't work, with the engine in the back the inside would heat up the seats felt like they were on fire, it also smelled like fumes inside, it was like riding in a hookah on wheels
It's no different to the rich buying art. Not money I would pay, but i'd rather have a million dollar car than a million dollar painting. I'd be just as happy looking at a print of a painting or modern reproduction, but not so easy getting a duplicate car made if it's really rare.
Yes, You can but In terms of history is one of the kind in the world. is very simple, what ever You are riding today is an influence of the Porsche 928. First in almost of all tegnology . Back in 1977 928 Made big changes in automotive indrustry. ABS,fuel inyector, computer, disc brake, and more. Fact of all this new technology won car of the year, and the designer Tony Lapine is known as one of the Best designer in the world. This one is more Special about the fact. I imagen if this one went for this amount the other that been used on movie scareface is going up for more.
You are right that it is simply because it is movie memorabilia. But the Euro 928s (not this one) were better than the V8 Ferrari offerings of the day.
You’re missing the point a bit . It’s a stunning piece of design . Which was way advanced for its day. 1970’s ! It’s not comparable to a modern day Boxter S . It’s a GT
Yeah , for it's day it was powerful, not so much now. I have an '87 928 S4, 5 ltr 4sp auto and an '07 Toyota Aurion 3.5 ltr 6sp auto. The Porsche probably just out drags the Toyota from a standing start, from a rolling start the modern gear box will smoke the Porsche auto, but the 928 also rated to 265KPh top speed which is not slow.

Porsche declined to provide cars, yet still won big with that tagline.

No one foresaw this going over a million dollars. That's really cool! 👍
well it was the movie car in one of the most iconic movies of all time that got sat in by one of the most iconic actors breakout role 😂
Tom must have purchased it.

It’s worth a million dollars simply for the memory of Rebecca De Mornay 🤩😍
you bet it!
“I don’t believe this! I have a trig mid-term tomorrow and I’m being chased by Guido, The Killer Pimp!”

The first 928 to make a million bucks, certainly can't harm the future prices of the other 928s out there in the world.

my father was the one that sold this car we all had no clue it would rise that high. i remember sitting at home screaming "higher. higher!"
