Hooray for Nettle and Bone having another Fan!!
It was what I call a 'gritty' fairytale.😁 Almost like a Brother's Grimm version vs. Disney 😂
Maybe try The Beatryce Prophecy with your daughter. It might be my favorite DiCamillo.

Yes! That was exactly what it was. Very fairytale but with some more dark themes and elements. Thank you for the recommendation! I will add The Beatryce Prophecy to my list for my daughter. I've never read that one! Thank you!

Thanks for recommending Flowers of Fire! I’ve never heard of it, but it’s definitely going on the TBR.

ooooo I have never heard of Flowers of Fire!! It does sound like it would go along great with Flawless! Nettle and Bone sounds like a cute palette cleanser!

I think you would really like Flowers of Fire! And Nettle and Bone was great. It did have some darker themes but the tone was so much lighter than the rest of my reading week 😅

I’m glad you gave Tell Me Everything a try. It was definitely the weakest of the four memoirs that I recommended in that video, but what I appreciated about it was the behind the scenes look into the investigation. I think we often hear that the justice system is so broken, especially in regard to sexual assault, but I felt like this really illustrated aspects of it. We see the collusion between the staff pretty explicitly and yet, we also see that none of them ever face any repercussions. I read it right after reading Know My Name and Unbound, so I think that also added to the experience.
I understand what you were saying about Erika’s self assessment. I sort of interpreted it as someone with imposter’s syndrome trying to reassure themselves. She mentions at the beginning that she had no investigative experience or relevant skills, just a face that makes people feel comfortable talking to her and that’s why she got hired. I think as the story progresses and she starts seeing results, she is dealing with this sort of awe that she is getting as far as she is. I do agree that it was a bit of an interruption in places though. Once we’ve established that she was hired in an untraditional way, then it doesn’t really need to be repeated.
I’ll be curious to see what you think of the other three memoirs as again, this one was the weakest.

Yes! I completely agree! I am excited to get to the others. This one was the first that was available at the library but I will hopefully be able to get to them soon. 😊I could see how Tell Me Everything would go really well with Know My Name and Unbound! But it sounds really heavy to read all of those in a close time period 😬

Best wishes with what you choose to read. I've been with the Count of Monte Cristo for some time. Getting to the end of it now. Happy reading.

I love The Count of Monte Cristo! As a teenager I read it 3 or 4 times. I hope you are having a wonderful time reading it!

Flowers of Fire sounds so interesting, I haven't heard of it before and know so little about the topic, so I'll have to check it out

I hadn't heard of Tell Me Everything, but I've been wanting to read the Krakauer book for quite some time (but I need to be in the right headspace for it!)

Yes! Don't jump into it without being ready for it. It is a really heavy topic

_Flowers of Fire_ sounds interesting. I haven’t read anything contemporary about Korea in a while.

Highly recommend! It was really interesting to see some of the problems that women have faced worldwide through the lens of what has happened in Korea.
