    In Jacksonville and i have a Avenger with the 2.7. Coolant leaking from the side of the engine above the exhaust. heater core overheated the car and now the coolant leak. The gasket is the only thing i can think would be where the coolant is coming from.

      Sounds about right but the best way to guarantee you find where your leak is coming from is to use a UV dye kit before spending money doing major work on a vehicle

    The key is to line the bottom tdc then put the chain on matching color link then the other links matvh up to timing marks on cams and there u go

    Where did you buy the head gasket and the other gaskets? And did you re use the head bolts?

    7:27 You mentioned the little thing called hydraulic tappet adjusters. Did you reuse the old ones or replace? What about the oil pump, new or reuse? I'm doing a 2.7 partial rebuild now is why I'm asking.

    • @96fix-it-frank

      I cleaned them thoroughly and reuse them

      @@96fix-it-frank Thanks so much for the reply. I've got one of the 24 tap it adjusters that's just collapsed. I can squeeze it with my fingers. So I'm just going to replace them all.
      I was wondering also if you just happened to take apart the oil pump to look for where or anything like that. I figured I'm going to be there with a sprocket removed I might as well take it off and check it out.

    And plus after turning engine over the color links do not line back up with the marks because its not like doing a timing belt

    Thank you so much I’m about to start this exact thing it’s even the same car, white 2007 Dodge Charger lol. I think the only tricky part for me is going to be remembering where everything goes but I will take pictures. Also I got a question, were did you get the torque specs for the heads at, and is it only the head bolts that I need to torque?

    • @96fix-it-frank

      Get you a repair manual carries all the specs including specific tightening instructions. You will need an inch pound and a ft-lb torque wrenches. Done my 1999 2.7L runs like a little V8. Change and only use dealership thermostat highly recommended. Change your trans and filter use only ATF 4 from the dealer can order on line differential fluid from the dealer and ride y'all ride.

      This video was extremely informative and detailed. Almost made me feel confident enough to try doing the job myself (and I'm no mechanic). Same exact vehicle; white 2008 Charger 2.7L engine... the big question for me tho is, does both sides need to be disassembled or can just the right (driver side) head be removed to repair the head and gasket on that side? The Left (passenger side) of the engine is seemingly fine, while the right (driver side) of the engine is what appears to be overheating?

    Hope I get this done on a 2.7 charger I just bought off someone, but the problem was he didn’t know how to tell me that he ran the engine dry. So I don’t listen him in the first place now it’s a head gasket problem on the 2.7 I have to. Hopefully I can get this done as well. How much total was it to get everything done including machine shop?

    Frank im in the Bay. my problem is keeping the timing chain on the marks on the crankshaft without it moving out of place. and the camshaft I line in up at 12. but when spinning the camshaft to put the screws in the sprockets to match the links the camshafts at 12 o'clock throws all the timing marks off. what am I doing wrong? how did you line up the top sprocket screws without moving the camshaft marks from the 12 positions? this is a problem for me? how did you do it please.

    • @96fix-it-frank
      @96fix-it-frank  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a ratchet inside of the center of the camshaft and left the sprocket loose by doing it that way you can move the camshaft where needs to be in order to screw the sprocket on without it messing up if this was not a good enough explanation let me know and I will try to explain it differently

    • @96fix-it-frank

      Same steps the only thing different about the Hemi is you will not have to worry about doing timing because the timing is in the bottom of the engine all you have to do is remove the cylinder heads replace your gaskets and do whatever else is necessary it's a lot easier than this

    • @ombtrouble2238
      @ombtrouble2238 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      How you know it’s the head gasket if it’s no water in the oil and does the water pump make the coolant temp jump up and down to the point the car runs hot ?

    • @96fix-it-frank
      @96fix-it-frank  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a tool called a pressure tester kit to put the cooling system under pressure water cooling system is under pressure you typically will see a leak or hear it wheezing if it is outside of the engine if the pressure is falling and there is no leaks outside of the engine more than likely is the head gasket or water pump other things to look for would be the plastic bleeder on top of the engine the heater core hoses thermostat housing radiator and radiator hoses
