It is actually a great engine if you treat it right. I drive my 2002 Sebring hard. It just did a trip to Dallas and back in 105 degree heat. 213,000 on the clock. The flaw was the PCV valve placement. Because it is horizontal, and in the plastic plenum it never gets hot or self cleans. Spray it out every 3000 miles.
Are you replacing your freeze plugs and where is the block drain ??? Have replaced water pump and chains in my 1999 2.7L about six years ago no problem . Will replace freeze plugs and oil pump along with chains ,water pump valve seals and springs. Really good video.
Very good job explaining how the engine worked I was worried when I set the timing mark on the crank and the piston was not tdc is it not also true that the cams determine the compression and exhaust strokes not the crank I have been debating this with a friend and he doesn't seem to get it maybe I am wrong
It is the cams that control the compression and exhaust stroke because they are what open and closes the valves. Crank just determines what piston is being used in the firing order…
The original water pump will leak out the weep hole the one that came with the engine. if you use an aftermarket water pump those are the ones that leak into your oil when they go bad they don't leak out the weep hole all the water just go straight into your oil so make sure you use the one that came with the engine
With all due respect i appreciate u helping people but please try to reframe from putting rtv on a rubber gasket it makes pockets and it wil leak over time because the pockets and it won’t fully seal
Thank I’m changing water pump but I don’t know if I can turn motor because I sprayed on blaster and bumped it to clean cylinder s it stayed out aligned timing should I bump it again or assemble it then turn over ?can u help sorry for book

U really have to loosen cam bearing cap bolts to get all the rockers out. I clean my lifters and reinstalled. They were all good still. There is a small oil port hole next to each lifter. That gets plugged with sludge. That needs to get clean out with a pick till it bottoms out. I used brake cleaner. But i had heads of when i cleaned them out….
So I am working on a 2.7 out of a Chrysler 300 should I be able to remove any of the roller rockers by hand without removing the camshaft? I can remove both on cylinder five intake camshaft without it being removed. Bad lifters? The springs look fine on the valves
@@zeppone4045 They were bent valves. When I took the heads off the intake valves on that side where I could take the rocker arm off without unbolting the cam were the ones that were bent so bad they wouldn’t close
@@tblizzy5603 yeah your tensioner probably retracted causing your main timing chain to slip a few teeth which then caused your piston to hit intake valves. Low oil pressure or bad tensioner is at fault most of the time…
Sorry for repetitive question so I should be able to take out the cam shaft bearings then tilt the camshafts up without removing timing belt to replace lifters and rockers? Thanks for your help great video.
How do I put in those camshaft chain tensioner without taking it off I'm doing a water pump and a new timing chain so I want to replace the top tensioners do I have to take those off how do I take them off and put the new one on
Just mark ur camshaft sprockets and secondary chains and you can take tensioners off….most likely you have to loosen 1 camshaft to get the tensioner out….
