Listening to Paul Kingsnorth speak is always worthwhile. I too converted to Orthodox Christianity a couple of years ago as the result of a lifelong search for truth. My search took me through drugs, obsession with music and literature, seeking redemption in romance, radical politics both left and right, and occultism. I too reached a point where I asked God to reveal Himself to me, to show me how live and how to worship Him. I too had the experience of feeling pursued by Christ, and I too tried to outrun Him for a while. It was an unexpected and quite shocking thing for me, too. But here we are. And thank God for that.
Yes, it is wonderful. Paul, in the first few chapters of Romans, claims that the truth of the Creator God is plain to everyone but the human heart hates God because it loves sin and as a result suppresses that truth.
I think that what is lacking in this day and age is a belief in God. I was fortunate, I was brought up in a Christian home. I renaged a bit as a teenager, but could not lose my belief in God. I feel that we need to share our beliefs and encourage others to join us in Church to worship God and follow in Jesus’ ways.

A great interview. As Christian's we try and reach people daily, to share the good news but I love to hear it when a person seeks and finds Jesus, just like that! Many muslims are also receiving Christ as their messiah and saviour by asking God to show them who he is. They're experiencing dreams of Jesus, visions and spiritual encounters!
I love Paul’s journey, as well as that of a fellow writer and friend of his, Martin Shaw. Both were people I knew of before their conversion and discovered their change at the same time as experiencing it myself!! Synchronicity seems to be part of the path. Xx 🙏🌟🌟🌟
Paul says that he feels society is sadly turning away from Christ. I believe there are many of us out here who still firmly believe in Christ and his teachings. I do completely. We need a British Orthodox Church - this is what Anglicanism should be, and once was. I am not Greek or Russian which makes Orthodoxy difficult. Seraphim Rose is a marker towards a Western Orthodoxy. The British Church was once Orthodox and should be again.
I'm English and go to an Orthodox church in England. Most of the service is held in English (apart from a few short bits in church Slavonic in our parish) so there's no language barrier at all. Just look on the websites for your local Orthodox churches that they are multi-ethnic, as some are held in other languages such as Greek/Romanian/whatever mainly for the expat communities. We are a fairly even balance between British converts/inquirers and cradle immigrants from the Orthodox countries. A wide range of ages and very friendly. Although Orthodoxy is "foreign", spiritually it feels like fully coming home to me. "Come and see"! 😇
And we will have one eventually. But that will only come as a result of British people joining the Church. It takes some people taking up their cross and dealing with the discomfort of perhaps feeling "out of place" to pave the way for others. To a large degree it is already happening. Things have changed quite significantly over the past couple of years. The covid era was a massive turning point. Lots of cradles stopped coming and lots of converts started arriving. It also accelerated the process of parishes becomibg more ethnically mixed even in terms of cradles. When I converted a couple of years ago I was the only non-Serb at my parish who attended regularly, and the first convert the parish had ever received. Now we have Greeks, Romanians, Bulgarians, Ukrainians, Macedonians, Lebanese, we even had an Iranian guy turn up last week. And we have more British converts too. I had the honour of becoming godfather for another English convert a few months ago. The normal Liturgy is a mix of English, Serbian and Church Slavonic, probably about 50% English to 25% each of the other two, and occasionally the odd 'Lord have mercy' or something in Greek. But the priest always does the homily in English, and the Gospel and Epistle readings are in both languages. But we have also started holding an all-English language Liturgy once a month, where we also try to use melodies that feel more familiar to the Western ear. And there are parishes that are 100% English language all the time. There's one in Manchester like that for example, which also has an English priest.
Wow, thank you for that amazing testimony Paul. You articulate your thoughts so well.
