- I found this crusty square shank screwdriver with a wood handle for $2 at a secondhand store. Here is how I cleaned it up, straightened it and put it back into service. Or at least put it back into ‘display’ service.

Looks fantastic!
Wow! Thanks John! High praise coming from you. I have been a subscriber of yours for a while. Thanks again, Bill.
Tu no habrías dejado esa grieta en el mango, saludos.
Wow!!!! That was a great restoration!!! It looks better than when it left the factory!!! Two dollars well spent!!! Great job… you have mastered many disciplines to achieve that beautiful result!! Thanks for sharing your video with us!!!
Thanks Dave! Your comment is much appreciated. It was a rewarding project. Regards, Bill.
Saved another one from the landfill! Great outcome, it's a keeper now! Good video Bill!
Yes, I'm afraid that screwdriver's future looked bleak before I gave it a makeover. Good to hear from you Mike!
Very good job sir
Thanks for watching the video and commenting. Best regards, Bill.
wonderful film - I really enjoyed it - the problem is that if I had a screwdriver finished as well as that, I'd not want to use it incase it got scratched! Best wishes from Manchester, UK.
Thanks for watching the video and commenting! This screwdriver will probably not be used, at least by me - it is destined to be a 'shelf queen' HaHa! Best Regards, Bill.
I must say this. You completely destroyed the age old axiom, you can't polish a turd. Looks great.
HaHa! Thanks Joe! It was a fun project. Bill.
@rollerbald You inspired me. I got two old broken clocks and got them working. The wife even wanted one on display over the fireplace. Thank YOU. What a great hobby, making things work again. It's redemption.
Well done. That came out fantastic. I have subscribed.
Thanks! I appreciate the comment and the sub! I will have more content soon. Regards, Bill.
Nice job!
Hi Kenneth. Thanks for the comment and for watching the video - much appreciated! Regards, Bill.
I have the very same screwdriver!
I really like those square shank screwdrivers Ben. Thanks for watching.
You did a fantastic job on the screw driver, I was wondering what you would do with the cracked handle. Did you put any glue in there or just wood putty, It really looks nice.
Hi Dale. I used some 'color matched' walnut wood filler on the crack. It doesn't look perfect but it's close enough. Thanks for the comment - I subscribed to your channel today! Regards, Bill.
What did you do to the wood? A varnish?
I inherited my great uncles screwdriver that looks just like this and I’d like to restore it to give to his great grandson one day
If I remember correctly I used some stain and then Minwax Polycrylic. Thanks for watching the video!
❤❤
Thanks!
Fantástico. But faltaría
Rellenar la grieta del mango con alguna masilla para maderas o algo.
Thanks for your comment!
What was your gloss finish on the handle?
Minwax Clear Gloss PolyCrylic. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@rollerbald You did an amazing job!
50 years ago the cheapest screwdrivers were the ones with wood handles like the one you restored. The best ones had plastic handles. That doesn't mean you can't restore a wood handle screwdriver and make it look great. It only means that it's a good looking, cheap screwdriver.
I like this one mainly because of the square shank. Thanks for watching Ron.
Late viewer, lovely job.🇬🇧
@@tony1721 Thanks Tony! Appreciate the comment!
Those screw drivers with the slots are very old. I restored a pair that were my great grandfather who lived through the Great Depression and was poor his whole life I don’t give a damn about what is worth restoring.
@@joestewart5406 Well said, my friend. Cherish it. My father-in-law's father-in-law gave me an old ball peen hammer when I was just starting out. The old guy has been dead for decades but when I mailed the hammer to his grandson he said he will cherish it. Ok, so it was a cheap, low quality hammer but who cares. We did the same when my dad passed away. Every tool he owned is cherished and will be 'til we die. I'm glad you have the screwdriver.
